To open the pick ups without changing covers just lower pick ups and raise pole pieces works a treat to get rid of muddy sounds.

I bought some Guyker tuners for a late 90's Epiphone dot that I got for chump change. MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE! They aren't top knotch but they are stable and lock just fine.

Have you ever tried warman pickups i find there humbuckers are very good for quite cheap. Be nice to see a video on them from you

I agree. The Guyker-Tuners are a little bit underestimated. I put them in my newest Bass-Mod. They are a little heavy. But they stay in tune. And it matters at most. If you like you can check the video. I am going to subscribe. A very interesting channel. I had no idea the pickup-covers matter so much.

They matter when they're made of brass! The other video is interesting with the nickel covers on. Aesthetically I still prefer covered.

I always liked the look of the Guyker tuners, I'll get some the next time I need tuners, you can get Grover locking tuners,
I've got some on my Epi Cantrell prophecy, they are excellent tuners...

Toneriders are bad ass pickups for a cheap price. I have a set of Alnico II's and Alnico V's in two of my Les Pauls and they sound amazing. So definitely worth spending a few bucks more rather than sticking with the cheap stock ones.

Be interesting to hear the cheap pickups put into the Gibson les Paul then put the more expensive ones in the east coast. See the difference it makes in sound between both

There are only really 2 Key differences between pickup tones in most scenarios… single and humbuckers… the main benefits to buying better pickups is to increase the output signal and reduce unnecessary noises that cheep ones produce… nasty hums and help reduce unwanted easy feedback issues
Locking tuners only benefit guitars with any form of tremolos system because it help lock the strings tuning before you releasing tension through there uses… getting better tuning nuts is a must but, guitars with hard tails dont need locking tuners.
I do completely agree with obsidian wire, this New Zealand base company produce superior products that are not only easy to use and sound fantastic at a fair price, but often increase your bass or guitars output signal that tends to get lost through bad wiring and components

Thinking about modifying a Cort CR250. Pickups sound muddy.

In the pickup test it would be interesting to hear it with the same guitar strings on both guitars.

You make me want to buy an Eastcoast just to do these mods!

You’ll probably get someone saying “But the Eastcoast pickups have covers on and the Gibson’s don’t!” 😉

I’ve used the guyker tuners a couple of times and I will say that the black ones are not as well done. I had 2 out of 6 that the bushing would not go over the post there was too much paint on them. I tried to sand it down a little and it hit the metal underneath almost immediately. I had to buy some hipshot tuners instead.

"The Grovers don't lock though"....not true. Grover does make Locking tuners. They work very well too.

Going to shout out Iron Gear pickups again. They're £35 each (somehow) and they're quality. Please give them a look-in!

locking tuners are a necessity for me these days, just for string changes on the 5 guitars I've got.
