Mine also like something to push against when doing a dust bath. 😂 I just got an 8 week old cockerel to add to my flock someday. It will be a new adventure for me! I’m trying to determine when I’ll be able to integrate him. It will be a while… put him in the small coop run for a bit and the hens weren’t too thrilled. The young lady at the bottom of the pecking order tried to attack him. And I’m getting about 3-4 chicks in May so I’m hoping he’s fully integrated at least before those chicks get integrated. I’m sure it’s easy and I’m overthinking it since I’ve done it before… just not with a rooster. I may need to get a pooper scooper like yours. I use a rake and gloves. Works well enough but there are times when just picking up the obvious big ones would be nice. 12:38 Thelma!!! Laying eggs in the pool. That’s hysterical! One of my hens hurt her leg or foot a couple years ago and I thought she broke it but it was basically a sprain. I think it took about a week or two for her to stop limping.
@ Do you know the average age that happens? I hope to move him into his own coop soon but it’s roughly 20-35 degrees at night but heading to 15 degrees in a few days. The hens don’t mind at all but he’s just 8 weeks so I’m leery to have him out there alone. Plus he still eats every 4 hours in the middle of the night so might fall from the perch looking for food. I know I’m paranoid but don’t want to lose him stupidly.
That's a good idea selling the chicks you get. The blue eggs would be cool gifts too, especially if the kids learn to blow eggs like I did growing up.

@phenixjiraliving once the rooster gets big enough and starts dominating the hens won't pick on him any more. Lol
