    One of the best tree-skiing vids I've ever seen -- and THANK YOU for not drowning out the real sounds with "music"!!!! Now I want to go back to Breckenridge -- that was my first Western ski trip after starting (at age 40, 26 years ago); lately Aspen is my favorite, but those runs look wonderful! I'll look for you in 2020.

    This run is really fun on a pow day through the trees although once you get to the trees it's a fine line between keeping speed to not get stuck and hugging a tree with a face.

    That’s the kinda trail I took my biggest fall on, if I’m not mistaken it was at Keystone. The trees just kept getting thicker and closer together and the track narrower. I caught a tip, my feet ended up above me, I was on my back like turtle and sliding down the hill. I clipped a couple of trees and then finally got hold of a small sapling to arrest myself. I lost one ski about 100+ yards uphill and was rescued by another skier after trudging halfway back up the slope. Now days I make sure I know the terrain, by talking to others about how densely it is forested before getting into deep. After all I’m not bad, but no expert, I’m after all from the flatlands of Kansas and ski maybe every other year. 😎

    Was wondering the name of the runout. We did Windows 4 times over MLK weekend - dad and 2 kids (16, 21) - all expert skiers. It was our favorite run, but a word of caution to counter many of the comments minimizing the difficulty and hazards. This is a true double black for the following reasons: it's technical - tight turns in trees, irregular bumps throughout, exposed roots and rocks, holes that drop you into a running creek or onto exposed rocks. Double black is more than steeps. More than most runs, a misstep in Windows will hurt. However, if you have the necessary skills, you'll likely love it and come back for more.

    • @BreckSnowPro
      @BreckSnowPro  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The runout is "Rick's runout" I skied the lower portion of it near the creek in this video. I could have started traversing right a little sooner, higher up on the hill, also.

      Not really :-) I'll get the camera turned on myself one of these days. Trees seem to come out well on camera. Videos of steeps look less steep than they feel. And everything looks faster on film than it seems skiing.

      My son is now a Jr. in college in his home state of Wi.
      He skied varsity downhill in high school.
      His uncle was born and raised in Boulder Colorado.
      My sister, a harpist graduate from the Eastman School of Music, the uncle, Dr. of Cello from Northwestern university married an have lived in Boulder the last forty years. He recently retired after 34yrs with the Denver Symphony and 25yrs with the Central City Opera Orchestra. My sister was the harp faculty at the University of Denver and first call union harpist in the Denver area. They are both 70 and are still skiing in the Rockies at many of the world's iconic ski areas just minutes from Boulder.
      They invited him to go skiing in the area when he was a high school senior. He had never skied out West. He skied with his cousin. The problem is that my son, since birth, has had no physical fear!! So there they were, skiing the black diamond AND double diamond runs. That seemed to go fine (we have video). So on the second day his cousin suggested they ski the "glades" (as shown in this video) through the trees.
      Seems everything was going well (more video). Then apparently a tree branch stepped out in front of him and whacked him across his right shoulder and chest (we have the photos) raising blood blisters and bruises (he survived). The next day back out on the slopes and into the glades again (told you, no fear......or just dumb(?).
      He had a blast skiing the through trees that had no packed paths as seen in this video, all powder. I hope he'll have his own kids someday!

    • @BreckSnowPro
      @BreckSnowPro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

       @Quinn Boudreaux Perhaps. I need to keep the least skilled people in a group on terrain, and moving at a pace, that is appropriate for their ability. But, you can also move me between different members of your group at different times during the day. If you want a second instructor, I can recommend one.

    Wow, even with the GoPro angle, it looks so steep. It should not be a double black. It should be an EX.

      if you can ski down a double black forest terrain without powder as smooth as this guy did then i'll shut up but i'd like to see you try this. even after 3 years of snowboarding doing trails like this for me at least is still quite nerve wracking. like the first replied said, go pros lens make runs look less steep than they actually are

    Try doing windows 3 after a snowstorm and you will get fresh tracks the entire time I got 3 feet of powder back there.
