- If your horse moves when you are doing the Hind End points, and you’re using the method correctly-meaning your horse is relaxed and not bracing-fidgeting, walking, or moving is often a sign that he’s preparing to release.
Here’s what to do: Stay soft and consistent with what you’re doing for a bit longer. If your hand moves away when your horse moves, he’ll learn to associate his movement with stopping the technique. Instead, follow his movement and keep your hand in the same spot with the same gentle pressure. In most cases, after a little while, the horse will show you a release response.
If you feel like your horse isn’t responding, once he has stopped moving for a while, take a few steps back and give him time to process. Sometimes, horses need space to fully release. Watch Jim demonstrate how to follow the horse’s movement while maintaining your hand on the same spot.
