  • Our Gin pole on the sugar cane mill broke on Saturday. Danny went into the woods, chose a tree and created a new gin pole. This is a Living Off the Land example. We didn't buy anything, used what we had and made it work.

Where's the blacksmith and the cobbler?
    The grainmill and the chapel?
The farmer's hayride, veggies straight out the ground
    (No soap powder required)?
Where's the wood shed, where manners were taught, and penny bubble gum
    After you've done your chores?
I'm gonna keep watching this video
    Reminiscing
    Enjoying the simplicity of life
And the strength and good courage
    That makes it possible.
This is one of the best evern
    Thanks Danny and Wanda.

Your Dad & your Granddad and all the way back must be so proud of you Danny! You're living proof that we need to know how to DO things and to know the reason why something needs to be one way or another. (Like the pole's fulcrum affecting the ball bearings) it's all well and good "Google-ing it" but it's not a replacement for hands-on experience! Outstanding!! 👏👏

My Dad was a sleeper cutter and the best logsman around
He could axe out a railway sleeper by hand
    Here in Australia
    Same issues
    Termites etc etc etc
But the Lord will give Yu plenty from your harvest
You always prove that Danny xx👍

Though it is not a gin pole setup video I am looking for, but it is great. I especially like how you use the chainsaw to flatten a small part of log as needed to a practical accuracy.

Electric saws are great. I discovered them after a shoulder replacement and my gassers now sit mothballed for emergencies but I've never needed them. Cordless are terrific for limbing, and I've got enough fuel systems to maintain without adding more.

Well, that's a first for me. Cutting down a tree with a vacuum cleaner! Haha! The battery technology and the tools they power sure have come a long way. I have about 7 or 8 Dewalt 20v tools in the truck all the time, including a big impact for changing tires in record time. I've helped stranded motorists way more than I've had to change my own; that's a blessing in itself. I have bigger/badder chainsaws, but in an emergency, all I need is a battery. No gas or oil, no fouled plug or broken recoil. That's pretty handy when there's a tree down across the road and the "big tools" are at home in the barn. There's a charger hooked up in the truck all the time with a 2nd battery, so "fuel" is never a problem. Neither are "cold starts"!

My dad told me with a pole you can move the world we were out in the woods and got stuck and no Jack no chains and but we had a chainsaw and we got a pole got a block and we lifted truck up put wood underneath the tires and drove away there's many many uses for Poles it's all on the can do it Spirit you say you can't you're right you can't if you say you can you can it's all in the way you look at it thank you for sharing and you have a blessed day

    Life is indeed sweet.

Awesome; I am so proud for you and I pray the lord will open the door for us to get one of those old cane mills. I love how you got it set up super sturdy. I can imagine how much work it took to get it like that and I know you enjoy it all the more for it. I enjoy watching you enjoy it even replacing the pole every so often as that is how it was designed to be repairable unlike the stuff made today

For those of you who are young or city folk
That means hand cutting down a tree
    Hand hewing a log
    No chainsaw
    No swing saw
    No electricsaw
Pure eye and hand driven craftsmanship
    Which Danny speaks of regularly

Oh the sound of the birds singing
    Oh wait a minute
    It's the labor
    My bad
Oh the sound of the greatest gift
    God ever gave man
    He who came in flesh
    To serve
    Labor is good.
So is knowledge on one side, and wisdom on the other.
Oh that people could understand the purpose in their labor
    Thank you Danny
    For a physical reminder
    Of a spiritual Truth.
    This is the day
    That the Lord has made
    Let us rejoice
    And be glad in it

Don't forget the lessons on good chainsaw safety practices. No project is worth getting injured over. Whatever your perceived skill level you should be treating your chainsaw with respect by using Chaps and Helmut/faceguard. It's a good investment just like your rollbar on your tractor.
