Lawyers pleased with Privy Council verdict in Vybz Kartel murder appeal

MARCH 14, 2024: Attorneys for Shawn 'Shawn Storm' Campbell, the father-daughter duo Bert and Bianca Samuels, says they are pleased with the verdict handed down in the Privy Council. The attorneys for Vybz Kartel and his fellow murder accused are expected to seek bail while the Court of Appeal decides if they should face a retrial. This morning, the United Kingdom-based Privy Council upheld their appeal against their convictions and ordered that the Court of Appeal should consider the matter.
The Privy Council says while it has "considerable sympathy with the dilemma" faced by the trial judge in the Vybz Kartel murder trial following discovery of jury tampering attempts, allowing the tainted juror to continue in the case was fatal to the verdict, Lord Lloyd-Jones said in delivering the judgment.

When people talk about Jamaica going to a Republic, they should think about the justice system. Fair trial is a fundamental right; if you have evidence to convict a person, why leave a gap for appeal after conviction?

@@Ms_T_Perfectly_Imperfectyer I found that strange. The police were said to have used the phone they deemed had incriminating evidence. Even a forensic expert flew in and agreed the phone was tampered with.
Simple, the local courts drag out the process of going to the privy council and so kartel team could not submit all the information, however the privy council could not get pass the fact that a bad juror was allowed to continue on the case and so to them they really didn't need to look at anything else so it isn't a case where they are saying kartel is innocent or not lol..just ob technicalities

The evidence in this case was overwhelming and it is in my view that they in deed do the crime... However, there is a right and a wrong way to do things and in this case the prosecution and the judge did it the wrong way... the men should be set free as their rights were infringed upon... thats just my opinion anyway 🤷
Don't leave out the defendants. They were the ones who agreed to continue hence the prosecutors accepted and the judge proceeded with the trial.

I know that honesty is not in th DNA of criminal lawyers, but if Mr SAMUEL can be honest, neither side won on this appeal. Furthermore, the privy council made note of the fact that both sides agreed to use the jury in question, although the defense is now crying foul
The law doesn't look at things like that they look at things at a normative point of view vs descriptive point of view. Normative=what is right descriptive=what you belive is right the 2 sides agreeing to keep the jurt is descriptive they did what they thought was right but the LAW WHO LOOKS AT THINGS IN A NORMATIVE POINT OF VIEW LOOKS AT IT LIKE ... OK THEY BOTH AGREED TO KEEP THE JURT BUT WAS IT RIGHT THO? NO
