Esquire Jim, Outstanding presentation--balanced, fair and articulate explanation on the changes possibly coming to our Patent system under the Trump admin. Keep up the great work, Jon in Sonora, Ca.
So why are Ivy League Universities re-submitting hundred year old patents (long in public domain) as new inventions? This practice appears endemic in the feild of batteries. Corporate greed and manipulation for financial gain, that's why. Our little interest group was sent a Cease and Desist letter from a University after YouTubing our build of a long expired 1890's British Patent.
Thank you for your comment! I am not sure that I understand your question. At a very basic level, all inventions are improvements over existing inventions. I do not anticipate that will change. I think that there will always be opportunity for patents on inventions which improve those inventions described in prior patents. Rather, my take on this is that the current trend appears to be toward more patents and stronger patents.

Thank you for the very kind words Jon. Greatly appreciated!
PERA, long overdue!

So then there will be no “improving” on a previous patent?

More chokepoint condensing for monopolists and monopsonists. More condensing power in oligarchy. So much for Trump and the working man.
That is an ez one, they well all belong to drumph.
... or patent trolling on steroids.
