A wonderful video that speaks to my heart. Mr. Bailey is an impressive curator! I am wallowing in nostalgia. As a "Colorado boy" I was a Civil Air Patrol Cadet in the late '60s. I did a few Summer Encampment s at Buckly ANG Base. I also had Aircraft Solo training at Buckley. Years later, I had Weekend Training at Fitzimons Hospital as a Reserve Navy Hospital Corpsman. Your video brought back many memories of those times. If ever I get back to Denver, a visit to your museum will be number One on my list to visit (number 2 will be Casa Bonita in tribute to South Park!)

I love this museum. Went there the first time 25+ years ago. Make it a point to go atleast once a year. I remember when it's beautiful B-52 was damaged so badly by arson in 1998, if memory serves. Broke my heart, but seeing her stand proud right out front instead of across the street always makes me smile.

I've lived a few blocks from there since 1971(age 4) My dad was retired Navy so I grew up going to the base. Up until redevelopment began in the mid 90's we drove on the old runways. We went there for everything. Commissary, barber, garden shop, gas etc. When I was a kid the Air Force train ran down 6th to Buckley a couple times a day. It was a big part of life. Also a few blocks away was Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. Eisenhower had a major heart attack at Lowery and recovered for several months at Fitz. Many blgings remain at both sites. Nowadays most people living here have no clue about the history of the area and it's really run down. There was a time when this was the place to be and many many men returned after the war and Aurora grew rapidly. Sadly all that is gone now. Just another big city with big city problems.

Did you know that beautiful B-1 was (sadly) altered from it's original -A model to "look" like a -B model?
