violets are blue (her favorite color) and roses are the symbol of love. so “you made me trade my violets for roses” means “you made me trade myself/my happiness for your love” she’s such a genius writer.
When taken in context with the next line, "You tried to trade in my new truck for Rollses", I think he wanted her to be more glitzy, roses are more glitzy than violets.

This song helped me so much. I found it at a moment I needed it, I recently got out of a toxic relationship and the man I was with tried to change me and who I am. He controled me and manipulated me to turn me into someone I wasn't. Now I'm free but I still need to learn how to be myself again. He made me trade my violets for roses and it hurts so much. So thank you Lana for this song, I truly needed it.

the part where she sings "and, boy, does it feel sweet, like a summer breeze"... there's something so special about the way she sings it. God, I love this song and this album so so so much!
"...with their masks off and it makes me happy" I really love this part as I hope that everyone could truly take their masks off. Not the literal masks that we wear but the invisible masks that we wear to look happy on the outside. I hope for the day to come where I could finally take my mask off and smile for real. I will wait for that day where I could finally relate with this song, to let go, be free, and be finally happy.
Violets grow wild and are considered a weed. They are often mowed down despite their innocent, wild beauty. Where as roses are a symbol of status. They are prim and tamed usually. Lana is wild and her partner was materialistic and inauthentic. She can be herself again without his pretentious restrictions.
Finally this is an explanation I can agree with. Yes, I thought that, too. And also "violets" sounds like "violence" which reminds me of Ultraviolence and also of the wild, untamed existence described in Ride. Meanwhile, roses are a symbol of traditionalist love - tame, like your said, and orderly, and proper, while Lana has always loved guttural, almost painfully honest and heartbreaking, almost violent love / life.

talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.

MY BUSSY IS SENT TO OUTER SPACE... WHAT A GENIUS WRITER, LUV U LANA
Now this is my fave one✋
can’t stop listening to this song it’s just so beautiful but yet so sad..
My favourite on the album
And one of my favourite Lana songs ever 🌺
talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.
BEAUTIFUL SO MUCH 😭LOVE THIS SONG SFM ❤️🔥♥️
There's something in the air all right. Lana's insane genius
Words dont describe how amazing this song is
This is the best song on the album 😻 thanks once more Lana 🇯🇲
i think so too. So underrated
She is just mesmerizing
this song has a feeling of something that has ended, like a goodbye song. shares a first place with If You Lie Down With Me
she mentions my neighborhood in this ong omg! when she talks about larchmont village smelling like lillies!
Masterpiece! It’s gorgeous , no one can change Lana ❤️❤️
I am so happy that Lana finally wrote a song about that having a crush is not that important!!! She even mentions other things in the poem. I needed to hear those lyrics 🙊😃❤ they heal my heart!
