yes it was in 7th cross,closer to Sampigae Road. I knew the owner very well. But food was just ok. not much to rave about. I ate there becos, I satyed closeby. and Janata in 8th cross was 50 paise costlier at 2 rs. in Iyer mess, it was Rs.1.50.
But if i had more money i used to go Sai sakthi which served north indian food and it was excellent.
This iyer was very interesting. he used to go for horse racing and lose all that he earned during that week. again, next week he would slog and work hard and recover the loss.
the present owner used to serve water and his sister used to clean the table. but both were sincere

I was working in Bangalore between 1972-74 and Dubai was staying at Basavan Gudi (Gandhi Bazar) except MTR I never heard of this Iyer Mess. I think I had missed the authentic homely food.

yes. I have been visiting this since 1973. The owner (his father)then was very hard working and food was ok. meals was 1 Re and in the nearby Janata hotel on 8th cross, it was 1.5. But, the present owner is arrogant. 100 rs too much for this food

I toldyou that there is no other hotel serving TN style food except Rameshwaram cafe and A2B whose quality is very good but prices are highly disproportionate. Previously there was one on MG Road by name Brindhavan. Inspite of being in the most POSH area of Bangalore, its charges were very reasonable and it served perfect TN food. Unfortunately it has been sold to a jeweller.
You can try another Hotel by name Ajantha cafe on MG Road, near that Trinity circle. Thats fairly ok.
I stopped going to such hotels in Malleshwaram as I myself can make better food. For ur info, I am also from a Hoteliers family. We had hotels in Tiruvaiyaru, Tanjore and Kumbakonam by the name Raayar's coffee club. The first hotel was started in 1895 by my grandfather Narayanachar and sold to one Raman iyer in 1935.
We only introduced to the world the Famous Ashoka Halwa, which is now available only in those places.
Being 72, I have seen 100s of hotels in Tamilnadu, especially Chennai and the Brahmin dominated places like Kumbakonam and also hotels all over Bangalore, Mysore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Bombay. I have also lived in those places
