Joker. Bender. Dr. Drakken. Toyman. Too many others to count. John DiMaggio is legendary. No disrespect to Mark Hamill, but this is my favorite Joker. He performed stellar work doing interviews and compiling them for the VO documentary _I Know That Voice,_ too.
29:01 Bruce blaming himself makes more sense than some post Death In the Family comics where the writers had him blame Jason for his own death saying he supposedly didn't listen to him and rushed in when actually Jason's biological mother sold him out to Joker to save herself.
two be fair most of those stories i don't actually believe batman thinks that. he's desperately trying to convince himself of that so he won't feel the crippling guilt anymore. some of them it seems he had some measure of success deluding himself too
Oh I didn't expect you to watch this, but it's so cool you did. Also John DiMaggio is a well known voice actor, he voices Bender from Futurama and Jake from Adventure Time. I love his Joker, he's so menacing and dry witted instead the typical energetic and high pitched Joker we often hear.
3 funfacts about Jason's character and tenure as Robin from beginning middle and end. 1. Jason's debut aligns with Killer Croc's who was the original killer of his parents iirc. 2. Something that gets revisioned alot nowadays when Jason being robin is written nowadays is making him "the hyperviolent Robin". Precrisis and postcrisis this wasn't the case. Jason's most dubious moments as robin were outliers in his career. (A highlight of which is in the iconic Superman story The Man Who Has Everything. Definitely recommend reading. It has a great animated adaptation in the show Justice League Unlimited but Jason isn't present it. 3. Pretty much every adaptation of Death of The Family skips over or changes the events that led Jason into the situation. The lead up being him searching for his biological mother when he realizes the woman he grew up with was his stepmother. The crowbar scene hits way harder with his mother standing in the background smoking as she reluctantly accepts she sold her son out so the Joker wouldn't ruin the new life she had. And it's all the sadder that Jason's last moments was working through the pain trying every possible way to still save his mom from getting the door open, to trying to defuse the bomb only to be too bad of a condition to disarm it and ultimately using his bidy as a shield to protect her only for her to live long enough to tell Bruce what a hero he was before dying too.

This is the best Joker in my opinion. The scene where he’s meeting Black Mask and the all rest of the scenes he’s in perfectly encapsulate everything about Joker: He’s the perfect comic relief, but he’s also an unpredictable blood thirsty menace, never diminishing either side of him, which even Mark Hamill’s version fails at sometimes, but that’s all thanks to the brilliant writing of this movie
John did a good job, really making him very menacing. But Mark is such a high benchmark. His maniac cackling is of the charts and unlike this Joker, BTAS Joker would never allow himself to ever not be the center of attention. The chips-eating - murder-the-next-second is something this John Joker can do, but Mark's Joker would never be written in this situation in the first place: he would demand the attention, not be able to subdue himself to strike at an opportune moment like this Joker did. I kinda like BTAS Joker more, because he's almost as much fighting himself as Batman, and that just adds to his deranged side, although I appreciate it would probably not work as well if comics.

I saw the notification that you watched this movie and my eyes widened immediately! You should totally watch Batman: The Killing Joke, or Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Those are my absolute favorite DC animated movies
Love that your finally diving into the animated Batman realm. Almost all Batman animated movies are top tier content (the killing joke not so much but that's up for debate). Looking forward to future animated Batman content!
What I like about this movie is that it understands that Batman isn't a sane and well-adjusted person. A conclusion you'd think would be simple from just looking at him but a lot of fanboys seem shocked by it. That no-kill rule is a part of his psychosis, it keeps him from being able to make a necessary kill for the betterment of the world, because he knows if he does it once, he wouldn't be able to stop himself from doing it more often to those that might not deserve it. It's a hard line he keeps to, no matter how many more people are out in danger or die because he keeps to it. He knows he's not well enough mentally to make that call.
There was a Batman animated series in the 90s which was really really good. If you havent watched that you totally should. It was literally called Batman the animated series if I remember correctly.
Yeah Comics canon can be a little difficult to explain thanks to the many DC Reboots. I'm pretty sure most of the comics you've read take place within the Post Crisis era of DC, 1986 to 2011 by far their most well known and beloved universe, combining the Multiverse into a single Earth so that many of DC's characters could co-exist together within the same history. Here the Justice Society of America (Originally from Earth-2) was re-written into the history of this new Earth, forming during WW2 and later inspiring the future generation of Superhero's such as The Flash, Batman, Superman, etc. You would've seen this in Batman: Hush whenever Bruce visited Metropolis and saw Alan Scott's Green Lantern flying overhead a member of the Justice Society of America and one of DC's Golden Age characters. DC then rebooted in 2011 giving birth to the New 52 a reality that did not feature The Justice Society of America or the Golden Age DC's hero's we know and love. Here Superman lost his parents when he was just 18 and grew up to become a more moody, emotional and according to some people a jackass Superman. Also depicted with a modernized suit that lacked the trunks, features more lines on the suit and a high collar. A more dark and moody universe that kind of had the same tone throughout, very much in the vein of the DCEU films, overly dark and brutal and lacked the charm of the Post Crisis stories like All-Star Superman. Grant Morrisons stuff was great though and brought some light to these characters. DC then rebooted with Rebirth in 2015 moving closer to the classic depictions of it's characters, their origins etc. And recently brought back the Justice Society of America with alot of the Post Crisis stories like Superman: Secret Origin becoming canonical again. We've gotten to the point where "Everything" is canon according to DC. An ever changing universe, a metaverse.
The Batman animated series is an absolute classic. mask of the phantasm is set in it's world, I believe at the end of season 1. if you need any other DC animated recommendations, I'd say the following are essential watches at least: Superman Vs the Elite Batman: The Long Halloween (Part 1 and 2) Batman: the Dark knight returns (Part 1 and 2) Justice League: Doom Justice League: Crisis on 2 Earths The Flashpoint Paradox (Transitions into a shared universe starting with Justice League: War)
Watchmojo had an interesting way of describing his performance: he depicts Joker as a much more calculating villain, replacing clinical insanity with genuine malice and cruelty.
The mainstream Robins, in order, are: Dick Grayson Jason Todd Tim Drake Stephanie Brown Damien Wayne Also, Bruce DID kill the Joker after Jason's death. Dick brought him back to life.
Loved the reaction love Batman when he deals with his Bat family and his original son Dick as Nightwing the most buitall from Damien to Batgirl have their amazing dialog heartfelt moments
The legendary John DiMaggio! AKA Bender Rodriguez AKA Jake the Dog. Also Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester from Supernatural) did so freaking amazing as Red Hood! Glad he's back voicing Batman in the newer animated films!
Some versions of red hoods origin story have him being brought back by the Lazarus Pit but the original version is Superboy Prime punched the universe so hard it changed reality and brought Jason back from the dead and he had to crawl out of his coffin with his bare hands
Watching these animated movies got me into reading the comics. I’ve seen and read this story, Death in the Family, Hush, Long Halloween, The Killing Joke, Year One, and Dark Knight Returns. It sounds like Mask of the Phantasm is next on your list. I’d recommend Killing Joke, Long Halloween, or Dark Knight Returns after that.
Batman mask of the Phantasm, batman beyond return of the joker, and dark knight returns along with under the red hood are the best animated batman movies ever
Mask of the Phantasm is arguably the best piece of Batman anything in history. You could do the sequel to this where its what if scenarios of events. Def make this a weekly thing where u watch a batman movie
When you manage to loop back around to comedies, you might consider throwing Harlem Nights on the list. It's a classic that's set during Prohibition and has a fairly all-star cast (Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Red Foxx, Della Reese, Arsenio Hall, etc).
Love this one. 🙂 And yeah, John Dimaggio did a solid job as Joker. As far as the other animated Batman movies, I very highly recommend the two part film Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, it is absolutely fantastic! (It's even 100% critics and 93% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes.)
Five canon robins 1. Dick Grayson 2. Jason Todd 3. Tim Drake 4. Stephanie Brown 5. Damian Wayne People tend to ignore Stephanie because she had the shortest run, and DC editorial was also incredibly sexist towards her, but I would argue she has the most interesting run as Robin.
One of the best animated movie and arguably the best Batman animated movie. Batmans code and motives was really questioned on a personal level. Much harder than the Hush movie did.
John DiMaggio has quite the credentials under his belt (you might remember him as Bender in Futurama), but his depiction of the Joker is nothing short of special. It’s a voice that you don’t expect from the Joker, and yet it works so well!
Bruce Greenwood is an underrated actor played in a bunch of movies like Double Jeopardy and 13 Days and is Christopher Pike in the Star Trek reboot films. But I love him as Batman in Young Justice.
I grew up with Fox Kids and Kids WB throughout the 90s, and shows like Batman, Superman, X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Fantastic Four were m introductions to these characters and universes outside of the live action movies that were out at the time.
I like how after playing the Arkham Series you’ve became such a Batman Fan, which is ironic because that is how my Batman Fandom started as well when I was a kid😂😂😂💪🏻💪🏻
Damien Wayne is my favorite Robin. .. .. .. Watching him become "His Father's Son ... Instead of His Grandfather's Weapon" ... is heart warming. WE NEED A BATTLE FOR THE COWL MOVIE
Even though they are commonly forgotten, there is actually one more main Robin other than the four you mentioned her name is Stephanie Brown, and she eventually became batgirl when Barbara became Oracle
Batman withdrawal? How about reactions to: - 90s batman movies - 90s batman cartoon (best batman to this day imo) - old Batman skits made by Dropout (old Collage Humour videos)
Originally in DC Comics they decided to give some heroes a younger sidekick that young readers could identify with. So Batman got Robin, Flash got Kid Flash, Aquaman got Aqualad, Green Arrow got Speedy and Wonder Woman got Wonder Girl. Those 5 teamed up as the Teen Titans. The other characters came after a reboot of the series.
I really love your enthusiasm and knowledge of the Batman mythos. It really color your reaction video and give it really great energy. I fall in love with Batman during my viewing of 2 show that play in my youth, the batman animated series and the Justice League. If you never had the chance I highly recommand. Also for a more modern take you have the show Young Justice that follow Robin (Dick Grayson) and others sidekick sent in mission by Batman, really great. Or if you want to continue in the animated movies I highly recommand Batman Year One.
There were five mainline Robins; Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne. Stephanie is the daughter of a C/D-List villain named Cluemaster, and she was originally called "Spoiler", she was in a relationship with Tim Drake, and during Tim's hiatus as Robin she ended up becoming Robin for a short period, and then became the third Batgirl after her death was faked.
This is one of the Best animated DC Movies, I know you love Batman so both Dark Knight Return part 1 & 2 are so highly recommended and my favorite one is Flashpoint paradox
This is a great one! You need to check out Mask of the Phantasm! As good as a lot of these movies are, that one is still the best in my opinion. Bruce Greenwood does a good Batman. My most favorite role he played was in a show called Nowhere Man. It only lasted one season, but it was great! Also, the guy voicing REd Hood, played Dean Winchester in the show Supernatural, and he also does the voice of Batman in The Long Halloween 2 part movie. Amazo was first introduced in the Justice League Animated series (in terms of on screen portrayal), which I would also recommend watching. There are very few DC Animated movies that aren't amazing. You should eventually watch them all. But Mask of the Phantasm is where it started, which takes place between season 1 and 2 of Batman The Animated series.
33:16 that’s the thing, it’s not that he doesn’t kill, it’s that he CAN’T. Batman knows how broken he is, how much his trauma defines him. Not killing is the only thing keeping him from becoming even worse than Joker. That’s also partly why he walks away when Jason threatens to kill Joker. Batman doesn’t care if Joker lives or dies, he just knows he can’t do it himself.
For any more animated movies involving Batman, I recommend "Batman Gotham Knight", "Batman Gotham by gaslight", "Batman The Long Halloween 1&2, and Batman/Superman Public Enemies and Apocalypse.
_Batman: Under the Red Hood_ is still among my top 5 favorite animated Batman movies of all time. especially since Neil Patrick Harris and John DiMaggio voice Dick Grayson/Nightwing and Joker respectively. If you want to hear Mark Hamill as Joker, then I highly recommend you watch _Batman: The Animated Series_ , _Batman: Mask of the Phantasm_ , _The New Batman Adventures_ , and _Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker_ .

You’re in for a ride on the superhero animation train!!! So much good stuff ahead!
By far the best reaction channel no doubt I wish you the best
the dark knight returns part 1 and 2 are a must watch.
Ur genuine amusement of this movie made my day so much better
“This is the best day of my life” is such a perfect bittersweet note to end the film on.
Also Joh DiMaggio is a criminally underrated Joker.
The Dark Knight Returns 2 part film is the best DC animated project.
Part 1 is also fantastic
I saw the notification that you watched this movie and my eyes widened immediately! You should totally watch Batman: The Killing Joke, or Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Those are my absolute favorite DC animated movies
Love that your finally diving into the animated Batman realm. Almost all Batman animated movies are top tier content (the killing joke not so much but that's up for debate). Looking forward to future animated Batman content!
9:56 “I’m surprised he didn’t make an example of someone.”
Meanwhile the bag of severed heads sits on the table.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this.
@@MandalorianRevan bag of severed heads: “am I a joke to you?”
Glad you enjoyed it, to me it’s one of my favourite Batman movies but favourite Batman Animated movie (in my opinion).
20:54 Yep. While Black Mask was burning his childhood home down he got caught in the fire and it burned the mask into his face.
Oh so that’s why his face is always so skull shaped, cool to know thanks for the info
The Batman animated series is an absolute classic. mask of the phantasm is set in it's world, I believe at the end of season 1.
if you need any other DC animated recommendations, I'd say the following are essential watches at least:
Superman Vs the Elite
Batman: The Long Halloween (Part 1 and 2)
Batman: the Dark knight returns (Part 1 and 2)
Justice League: Doom
Justice League: Crisis on 2 Earths
The Flashpoint Paradox (Transitions into a shared universe starting with Justice League: War)
4:53 John Dimaggio' Futurama's Bender.
Watchmojo had an interesting way of describing his performance: he depicts Joker as a much more calculating villain, replacing clinical insanity with genuine malice and cruelty.
Is Jake the Dog from Adventure a more or less famous role for Dimaggio?
@@parker469a Yup. Along with Rath from Ben 10, Brother Blood from Teen Titans and Uka Uka from Crash Bandicoot.
@@F0re5tMan And Smilin' Jack from Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines.
@@erikbjelke4411 Didn't know that.
Its one of my favorite Joker quotes of all time: "I love it, you managed to find a way to win... AND EVERYBODY STILL LOSES!!!"
The mainstream Robins, in order, are:
Dick Grayson
Jason Todd
Tim Drake
Stephanie Brown
Damien Wayne
Also, Bruce DID kill the Joker after Jason's death. Dick brought him back to life.
The voice actor for black mask is amazing ❤😂.
And... Here... We... go.
"You managed to find a way to win...and everybody STILL LOSES!" - Batman's justice summed up
Looking forward to the animated series! I enjoy almost all things Batman but the animated series is at the tip top of everything in my eyes.
oh finally been waiting for this reaction for abit now lol lets goo
I love how they show that Batman can become a psychopath if he crosses the line. Love this film
This movie is so intense, I love it.
Mask of the Phantasm is arguably the best piece of Batman anything in history. You could do the sequel to this where its what if scenarios of events. Def make this a weekly thing where u watch a batman movie
I’d have to whole heartedly disagree. Year Two Reaper, the inspiration for Phantasm is far, far better
GIRL, u are gonna love the other animated films so goddamn much too, cant wait
Five canon robins
1. Dick Grayson
2. Jason Todd
3. Tim Drake
4. Stephanie Brown
5. Damian Wayne
People tend to ignore Stephanie because she had the shortest run, and DC editorial was also incredibly sexist towards her, but I would argue she has the most interesting run as Robin.
6. carrie kelly
I’ve always her Stephanie was retconed
@@FurbyPurrson I’m more familiar with Carrie than Stephanie.
@@chainsawboy2388Stephanie is still around as a member of the Batfamily, but she goes by the vigilante name “Spoiler” now
One of the best animated movie and arguably the best Batman animated movie.
Batmans code and motives was really questioned on a personal level.
Much harder than the Hush movie did.
Man, the Death in the Family book is peak 80's Batman comics.
This is where you learn who the Joker really is. ... His treatment of Jason is Legendary!!
Thank Gods for the Auto-Dialer
That was very good. Your reaction even better. Thanks Miranda.
John DiMaggio has quite the credentials under his belt (you might remember him as Bender in Futurama), but his depiction of the Joker is nothing short of special. It’s a voice that you don’t expect from the Joker, and yet it works so well!
Great pick, always a good day when a batman reaction is uploaded
Bruce Greenwood is an underrated actor played in a bunch of movies like Double Jeopardy and 13 Days and is Christopher Pike in the Star Trek reboot films. But I love him as Batman in Young Justice.
I grew up with Fox Kids and Kids WB throughout the 90s, and shows like Batman, Superman, X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Fantastic Four were m introductions to these characters and universes outside of the live action movies that were out at the time.
Oh man she really needs to watch "The Dark Knight Returns." One of the best batman movies ever made.
The DC animated films are so good. There is a 16 movie story arc you can watch chronologically that begins with flashpoint paradox
Hope you do more DC animated universe. I'll watch. Thanks for sharing. Always fun watching along with you. Peace and love.
Love your reaction. i needed this after everything going on. thank you!
Batman Death of The Family has one of the scariest versions of Joker I have ever witnessed.
Batman withdrawal? How about reactions to:
- 90s batman movies
- 90s batman cartoon (best batman to this day imo)
- old Batman skits made by Dropout (old Collage Humour videos)
I remember watching this and the bonus content over and over again on blu-ray using my ps3 when I was younger lol.
There were five mainline Robins;
Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne.
This is one of the best Batman movies ever!
"There's another Robin, I think his name is... Damian?"
Yes. Yes it is. And when you get to that story you are gonna absolutely lose your mind.
MVP of Under The Red Hood is easily Black Mask. Every line said by him is absolutely golden.
Mask of the Phantasm is definitely a good one to check out!
