Well, shoot. Sorry I missed the premier. Its been a great run! Hopefully they'll upload the specials someday, but even if they don't, it's been so much fun reliving American Gladiators with y'all
Totally. No knock on the contenders but this seemed so anticlimactic compared to other championships. From seeing 0 points for all 4 contenders combined in Breakthrough and Conquer to seeing the men get stonewalled in Powerball, this episode felt less exciting than any given lower-tier episode from any non-championship part of any previous season. I also hate how little faith the producers showed in the show itself by relying on weird gimmicks like having the gladiators doing goofy poses while scantily clad in the intro like some cheesy HBO blue movie at 3am.
This is sadly the final episode of American gladiators after seven seasons of hard-hitting action and competition with these amazing bodybuilding warriors, The American Gladiators.
This is the best grand championship this season on the American Gladiators! I can't wait for Team USA to win the International Gladiators championships! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
There's five episodes of season 7 are missing, they were the Playboy Challenge, the Baywatch vs. Lifeguards Special, the Celebrity vs. Pro Football Challenge, the Battle of the Best 2 and the alumni of two former female American Gladiators along with two twin brothers edition episodes.
So what’s next for this channel?! - Do we see some Lost Episodes?! - Do we see some Special Episodes?! - Do we see the International Gladiators?! - Are we seeing the 2008 Failed AG?!
Oh, so Season 7 only has nine episodes of the main tournament. As a young adult, I wondered why we had no new gladiators in the final two seasons and only one new event. However, those facts combined with only having nine episodes in season seven tell me that NBC's executives knew that American Gladiators wasn't popular anymore. They probably only made this seventh season out of contractual obligation. The only bit of evidence missing from this theory is the idea that American Gladiators was moved to Friday nights.
You're thinking of the 2008 reboot. OG Gladiators was shown completely in syndication so it had no true home network or dedicated time slot or day of the week as far as I know although I feel like Saturday may have possibly been its intended day of airing since I never remember it airing any other day of the week. Back to the part about there being so few main line episodes this season, yeah, it sucked in that regard cuz they became entirely too preoccupied with gimmick episodes like having contenders who were celebrities, pro athletes, Playboy playmates, etc. It made for some very below average episodes since it takes a lot more to compete successfully on AG than just having a good physique.
Having now watched every episode of American Gladiators*, I can say with confidence what worked and what didn't. Human Cannonball should've never been an event because it was too easy for contenders to get themselves in the tucked position and it was too short. The Maze didn't work because there was no skill, just pick a route and hope you're right. I'll stand by all the other events though. They're all worthy of this show. Speaking of events, I don't think they were added quickly enough. Seasons 1-4 only had eleven different events (twelve if you count Super Powerball), and then we got four new events in season 5 and only one more in the final two seasons. I don't want this to be like British Gladiators which introduced events too quickly to the point where the producers were almost completely creatively tapped by season 5, but there's got to be a middle ground. On the subject of jolly olde England, they're actually getting a second revival of their Gladiators series. Unfortunately, we don't have a date beyond "2023" and the year is two months from ending. I really wish we in America could also get a second revival of this series. In fact, I think that both of these series could be great if they followed my own tips. 1. Focus on the competition: You can take some time to introduce the contenders and give tidbits about their lives, but the main event should be these David and Goliath contests. It should last for six events plus the eliminator. Speaking of which... 2. Rotate between events every season: I call it my "Return of the McRib" strategy. There would be six events that would be played every season (Assault, Atlasphere, Hang Tough, Joust, Powerball, Wall). However, the other six events played in a season would be rotated out every year. One season might have events like Swingshot and Whiplash, the next one could have Pyramid and Gauntlet (among others). If you want a full list of eligible events, let me know and I'll give them to you. Also in Gladiators competitions outside the U.S., Gauntlet would be a fixture event rather than Assault. 3. Treat events and event types equally (except the Eliminator): I don't like how some events got played over and over again while others were rare. In a 13-episode season, every event should be played six or seven times just so that everyone gets to see their favorite event played at least a few times. Also, to keep episodes moving, there should be an equal amount of one-at-a-time events and two-at-a-time events. This is a reference to how many contenders compete at once. Assault and Joust would be one-at-a-time events, while Powerball and The Wall are two-at-a-time events. Obviously, the Eliminator is the exception, it ends every episode. 4. Don't get darker and edgier like the 2008 revival: That just seems like a relic of 2000s edge culture. While I did somewhat enjoy that version because the core of competition was kept in tact, the dark look and needlessly antagonistic gladiators were unnecessary. This is a sporting event, not a comic book or wrestling match. The reason Nitro and Wolf worked so well is because their bad boy personas contrasted against the other gladiators who were good sportsmen. If you make every gladiator like that, they're not special anymore. So yeah, make sure you only have one bad boy gladiator. 5. Don't make the Eliminator too long: For my final bit of advice, make sure it doesn't take too long to complete the Eliminator. The ballpit slowed things down so much for the women in particular that none of them completed the Eliminator with a raw time any faster than two minutes. The 2008 revival had a different problem, there were too many obstacles. Having six or seven obstacles with the travellator at the end does seem like the ideal. Well, that's all of my advice. Hopefully, the day will come when American Gladiators can shine again. Also, why did Tee Sorge not show up in International Gladiators 2? She's the only season 5-7 champion of any sort not to compete in International Gladiators! #justiceforteesorge
I remember when it 1st was on Saturday nights, loved it, could swear the "let's get ready to rumble" guy was there, the "Mandela Effect" is real!!! Was 30+yrs ago tho
I wonder how an 8th season (1996-1997) would've been like. would they had kept the color scheme of blue and purple? would they have kept the ball pit? would Dan (Nitro) Clark kept on co-hosting? We'll never know.
The ball pit was probably the worst part of any Eliminator ever. It just put a huge-ass boat anchor into the middle of what's supposed to be the most exciting part of the show. You could just see how frequently contenders' energy levels were nearly completely shot after that and then they're just dragging their own living corpses through the final four parts of the Eliminator.
Impressed with Csiz in Breakthrough. Tried HARD to keep his knee off the ground. Hawk (RIP) had the worst technique in Conquer yet it worked for him because the competitors never went low. "Blonde Bombers" lol. Jazz could've been blonde too but I don't think AG paid enough to get all that hair bleached.
That dude would ruin it really badly. He's too young to know how to properly honor the show's legacy plus he can't even run a hamburger chain properly.
Warning- The gladiators and contestants are highly trained athletes and have a lifetime of experience, but they are not invincible. Bodies have been broken, necks broken, concussions inflicted, lives shattered, and careers ended in an instant. Although it is entertainment, the hazards are real, and the contestants and gladiators take real risks, endure unimaginable pain, and put their bodies, their careers, and their lives on the line. Don't risk yours! Be Smart! Be Safe! PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME, SCHOOL OR ANYWHERE ELSE!!!
@@elinovak3770 I wouldn't say mediocre. It's apples and oranges. They have to be incredibly skilled to do what they do. But AG is fleshed out, more competitive, playful and more fun to watch. It would be amazing if someone picked up this show and kept it going nowadays.
Mike Adamle: "We'll see you again next year...we'll be back!"
