Saul wasn't going to do time. But Saul finally gave up on his own accord, he brought himself to justice. When he corrects the judge on his name not being Saul, but Jimmy, and he looked back at Kim, that was when he did it. Not for her, but because it was right. If he was always a sociopath, he would never give up his 7 years even more than that was useless. Kim is also more to blame for what happened to Howard. He spent a thousand years in prison doesn't change that. It was just a schedule for that ending. Making him sacrifice himself for a woman, even though it didn't make sense. Another thing, most of the series he lived in a nucleus totally separate from Gus and co. It doesn't make sense for him to have the power to nominate White. Him giving up 7 yrs on the stand as some theoretical act of redemeption was an awful plot twist and ridiculous. The character was selfish and sociopathic since the beginning.
In line with his character he will surely be claiming insanity or duress in a year because there is no way a guy like him can stay locked up in a prison like that for the rest of his life.
It would have made more sense and been more interesting that when he pulled that courtroom stunt. Either his counsel attorney or the judge confront Saul about how much of a grand stander he is and that this so called confession for redemption was just another turn from a mentally ill man. He should have been sentenced to an mental institution for no less than 7 yrs and released upon clearance of mental competence. That would have been a much more fitting ending in my opinion.

In prison he's doing the same job he was at cinabon, only now its with people who admire and respect him for sticking up for them. They make a point to show that hes a celebirty among the prisoners. Now with the added benefit of not having to look over his shoulder.
The point of the final scene with Kim is to show that she is back in his life in some capacity. Everything in her eyes and body language is telling Jimmy that shes not going to leave him there.
I should also mention that Peter Gould and Rhea Seehorn have gone on the record saying that they do believe Kim will continue to be in his life.

You are reaching. I dont think he wanted to get 86 years in prison to calm his conscience .He had remnants of moral compass, but long prison sentence did not fix anything bad he did previously.
Perhaps it was just temporary insanity that he refused 7.5 years ?
Temporary insanity was to go back to cancer patient house and break in when sedative was already wearing off and his partner refused to complete the ID theft.
Temporary insanity was to break into Chuck house, week after Chuck recorded that tape. If he thought it thru, he woud realize that tape was not admissible in court and Chuck already made copies, it was entrapment.
Temporary insanity was to go back to Marion house to offer her the bail money. His partner was arrested, so what ? He had vacuum cleaner repairman number, money and diamonds, he could flee again. It was not obligatory to live in Omaha.
Why was it necessary to throw bowling balls to Howard`s car ? He could lose his lawyers licence if he was caught. Destruction of property, vandalism ..
He was smart, but he had these insanity moments when his mind boiled over and all these moments hurt him.
I think it is pretty obvious that after a while in prison he regretted these moments.
When he met Kim again in prison, he didnt look like happy man .
I bet if he had a choice :
a ) pay"your debt to society" here in prison for rest of your life to "calm your conscience"
    b) or live in Tijuana beach condo, swim in pool and fix bingo numbers in local retirement community, hire occasional hooker or pretend that you are Kevin Costner and get some sex for free

If he would've gotten the 7 years deal by lying that he was a victim of walter white he will never be himself and after 7 years he'd go being back saul goodman and committing such small robberies and crimes.
It also made clear that in the ending of season 4 Jimmy wasn't lying about his brother in court he was lying afterwards to kim saying "one of them sucker was crying".
He chose this time not to be slippin jimmy again and take responsibility for his actions.
That's what matters in the end.
Showing him being fake for another 7 years and after that too wouldn't have done justice to the character.

I think BB ending was the best, I didn't really care for El Camino. I thought this was 2nd though, I was glad they gave Jimmy a small redemption arc. And showed they he ultimately broke the cycle of slippin Jimmy, by taking responsibility for his actions. He did what Chuck said and "took another path".

I hated the ending and was completely disappointed. Saul/Jimmy has ALWAYS been a grifter and would never willfully volunteer himself to do all that jail time. It's not authentic to his character ONE BIT. The whole last episode reminded me of a kid in school who has to do a report and throws something together at midnight before it's due the next day. I was hoping for the quality writing in the ending of Breaking Bad. Nope. The ending was as boring and lame as a bologna sandwich on white bread with no mayo. Thanks Vince for all the hype and big fat letdown to a true fan. Ugggh!

While watching this I (I know I'm slow!) Jimmy and Kim should have waited until Jimmy and Kim were with HHM and THEN proceeded with the Howard plot. They would have been named partners and live happily ever after! But. Maybe, not the best screen play...so sad

    • @bellroad100
      @bellroad100 ปีที่แล้ว

Jimmy and Kim did the whole Howard plot in order to get the settlement to the elderly people as quickly as possible. The HHM lawyers were dragging it out to get more money. And meanwhile the victims weren’t getting any younger. That’s why they did it. Plus the “fun” of it. In the end, they both wanted to atone for it…Kim by confessing everything to Howard’s widow and Jimmy by taking the 86 years.
