I ran retread (recap) tires on my cars from 1967 until they began phasing them out here in California in the mid-1980's. I never had a problem with a recap or retread tire. However, tires back then were belted with very cool running synthetic belts. The best belts for recaps, in my opinion, were either polyglass or aramid (Kevlar). Steel belting is hotter on the road, and doesn't dissipate heat like synthetics. And a synthetic belt tire is lighter than the steel. I don't get it. Why run a heavier hotter steel belt tire, when an aramid belted is as good or better..And probably way better for retreading.
