The air is just for servo effect for driver's leg (clutch is air, too)- still use incompressible liquid in the lines to the calipers/drums/master/slave cylinders.

If the curved wall was larger, it would be able to do the same, however, at the small size it is in the video, the suspension is hardly able to take over any of the force of the crash, and the majority it on the front end crumple zone.
