I'm so glad you were the person to outbid me on this vacuum!! I was watching the item on eBay... At least I know it's gone to a good home! My years long search for a Convertible continues 😂
Fantastic! One of my fond memories is from about 1977 when my best friend’s mom got a self-propelled Dial-a-Matic in cream and orange. He invited me over to test drive it on their brown shag in the basement. I was thrilled and marveled at its power drive…as my mom was instead a fan of the current Eureka up-rights which may have had two speeds and automatic cord rewind…but no amazing power drive. Yeah…Dick sure treated his wife Linda well.
Love these old machines. I believe the burgundy model you referenced was based on the Dial-A-Matic U5007 in cinnamon/oyster white, which was one of the very last US models before Hoover dropped the line. The U5007 is extremely rare; my grandmother had one when I was a baby, based on family pictures, but I have never been able to find another one.
In the 80s I believe there was an entirely wine red colored one made in France, with the body style/light of the u5007. There was also a slate grey one, but that may have been Italy only.
It was the first successful clean air upright. In the 1910s a few companies like Regina and Sturtevant made these weird electric things.. looked like cylinder cleaners with a nozzle on the front and a handle on the back. They weren't very good lol
Keep in mind he lives in England so their "firsts" are different than ours, as Hoover UK had a different product lineage and history. But yes for USA, the Hoover Dial-A-atic 1170 I believe was the first power drive Hoover.

It kinda looks like a dial-a-matic mixed with an older Panasonic Jet-Flo
This is a fine example of vintage hoover

Congrats Roger! But that’s from 1976! In 1978 it was already yellow with white bag casing cover❤
Great upload Roger , keep up the great work .👍👍
I do enjoyed the marvellous vacuum cleaner video I’m a big fan of Hoover cleaners
If I'm not mistaken, the Dial-A-Matic was the first hard body vacuum cleaner made.
I also remember it as the first power drive model

Watching from the United States. So it’s a Dial a Matic
Hoover💯
Wasn't the Electrolux 500 series the first bodied clean air vacuum cleaner?
No it wasn’t.
A friend of mine has one of these but it's self-propelled. The machine looks identical otherwise.
it sounds ok but i think you might need a new belt
