Yes! I do the thumb trick also. But I use 35mm and 26/28 so much I just put the camera flat to my chest and take the photo. For people new to street photography start with street celebrations where people are happy and having a good time.
I just though of a question. What do you think about using your smartphone to take stealth street photos when using cameras that support a smartphone interface? It would seem to me that with a little practice you could aim your camera without drawing attention to it's movement while looking at your smartphone like everyone else is often doing. Thanks.
Yes it's working, but also works to keep the phone close to your camera tilt screen like a prop... Look at the phone, look at the camera screen... No problems ;)
