  • The Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 is an analog synthesizer designed by Dave Smith and John Bowen in 1977. They used microprocessors, which was a new technology at the time, to make the first fully programmable polyphonic synth. Unlike other synths at the time, the Prophet 5 had patch memory, allowing users to store sounds rather than having to manually reprogram them. Due to its popularity that has continued to grow even since its last model was made in 1982, Sequential re-issued all previous versions of the synthesizer into a new ''Revision 4'' model, which has all its previous sounds available, as well as a newer, cleaner sound that would be expected from a synth in 2020.

Thanks for pronouncing M-oh-g correctly. The good doctor would have approved.

I've lusted after a Prophet 5 for over a decade and i finally bought a Prophet 10 rev4 last year. I love it so much, it's my prized possession and has helped me with so many ideas because i just want to play it all the time. No wonder it's so famous

Awesome! Again, very well put together and informative! And well a video on any Oberheim synth (maybe the OB-Xa?) or Arp synth (Odyssey?) would be cool!

If you're up for more Sequential stuff, I'd go with the Prophet VS. Not many videos about it exist, and it's a serious powerhouse. Also, the Pro One would be a great addendum video to the Prophet 5 and 10 videos as it was part of that family of synths.

Was just reading about TONTO, the first major analogue synth, 6X25 FT and weighed over a ton ! Created by Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff, and used by Stevie Wonder, starting with his album 'Music of My Mind' ! (the song 'Evil' is epic) 🎶

I was browsing synth videos and skipped ahead to someone getting all excited at Rick Wakeman!? I'm staying on this channel 😁 it's a shame that prog doesn't get that much attention in many of the synth rabbit holes I find myself in.

A cheapish way to get that Prophet sound is the Dave Smith Instruments/Pioneer DJ Toriaz AS1, basically a monophonic Prophet 6.

Are those fake lashes? It's great that a woman promotes synths, but be clear on the look you choose. Do you want to be a 'beauty' or honest? You come over as honest.
