  • Matsui had the ALCS MVP Award locked up. Sheffield and Matsui definitely have a greater legacy amongst the fanbase if the Yanks didn't choke this series away #mlb #playoffs #redsox #yankees #baseball

Matsui was criminally underrated. And that trio of Sheffield, A-Rod, and Matsui was pure fucking dynamite. I miss these days.

Baseball was just better back then. So many different TYPES of players. Nowadays it’s just 9 guys who try to do the same thing at different skill levels.

there absolutely is an explanation, our pitching was fried. Brown and Vazquez in particular completely fell apart. to this day i don't know why Torre didn't go to El Duque in Game 7, he was the only one who could have potentially given them a chance. the Yankees lost the 2004 ALCS when they didn't re-sign Andy Pettitte

Can anyone tell me the numbers of Sheffield Game 1-3 and Matsui Game 1-3? I always thought Sheffield would've been '04 ALCS MVP if the Yankees won in 4

Sheffield hit .694 had an OPS of 1.887 with 1 HR 3 2B and 5 RBIs
Matsui hit .600 had an OPS of 1.867 with 2 HR 4 2B and 10 RBIs

Was A-Rod up there as well? I know he probably didn't have those numbers, but he did hit over .400 and was pretty clutch in the ALDS against Minnesota, and I know he had a pretty solid Games 1-4 here. Again, not on Sheffield or Matsui's level, but I know he had a bunch of hits and a couple of homers, it's insane how hard this lineup fell-off in the final 3 games.

Rivera blew a save in Game 4, I wouldn't say he blew the series (I don't count the blown save in Game 5 because he inherited runners at the corners and nobody out). The main reason was the lineup going ice cold and not getting the job done with RISP
