Why do we ever think we can be good enough in and of ourselves to earn God's approval and salvation?? I abhore my sin that is ever present in me! How quick my sin is to try and usurp Jesus and take the throne in my heart...I am so wretched but thanks be to God for sending Jesus to take my punishment and make a way for sinners who fall on their face before Him in repentance and in belief of Jesus's saving atonement for our sin to spend eternity worshipping Him!! This is fully and completely a work of God!! I humbly thank and praise You always!!

My only problem with "limited atonement" doctrine is that technically Christ's sacrifice is good enough for every human.. now whether the Father calls them out of their sin to repent and believe is a different issue.

Limited atonement does not teach that if 1 more person were atoned for that Christ would have to suffer more or that if 1 less person were atoned for that Christ would suffer less. Limited atonement does not deal with the amount of suffering Christ underwent and how many people that it could theoretically atone for, it deals with how many people he actually atoned for. If Christ atoned for the sins of every human who ever existed, then every person's sin would be paid for at the cross and there would be no condemnation for any person, no judgement of God on the non elect, no fires of hell or anything of the sort. If Christ's atonement were unlimited, then the person who never turned to Him in faith would not suffer the wages of their sin.

Voddie, you were doing so well until you said Christ didn't die for all but only for those he came to save, the elect. You fell into the same trap as that CofE guy you mentioned and determined, by your own reasoning rather than what scripture states, that Christ couldn't have died for those who would not believe and who would hence suffer punishment for their sins themselves. 2 Cor 5:14 and 15 will need to be cut out of your Bible then because they state Christ died for all as many others do. God is not willing that any perish and all come to repentance. If salvation isn't available to all then we are all preaching a lie!
We are saved by grace but through faith, all of God's benefits are entered into by faith. Are you saying then that Christ only bore the sicknesses and diseases of those who receive healing by faith? Not all Christians? For by your reasoning Jesus can't have suffered those stripes for all his people if some suffer sickness and disease in this life. You reason that both can't suffer for the same thing but it happens all the time for physical healing and the many other redemptive benefits that belong to the church now but are often not entered into because of a lack of faith or other reasons.
If Christ only died for the elect then it can't be true he died for all and God can't be willing to save all people. God, in his foreknowledge, knows who will respond to the gospel and be saved and who will not and believers are only elect according to his foreknowledge. So the gospel is preached to all! So yes, Jesus died for the sins of the whole world as John the Baptist cried out but not everyone will benefit from that. Some say Christ would have died for me if I was the only person born, well maybe so, but God foreknew a great many would believe and planned all the ages to come on that foreknowledge for he is Alpha and Omega. We don't know exactly how Jesus took upon himself the sins of the whole world, it is a mystery, but clearly he would not hold back from dying for everyone just because not all would believe on him. Voddie, you are an anointed teacher, a great blessing, please be careful what you teach at all times, this was a very obvious error on your part.
