1.) Janice and her accomplice had planned the murder for 10 days.
2.) Gwen somewhat managed to escape but returned to save her brother.

That is so heartbreaking. She was so close to saving her own life and getting the police or someone to help, but she went back to attempt save her little brother anyway. She would have been amazing in healthcare no matter if she was a doctor or in a similar profession. She truly cared for people, especially her loved ones.
no it was Janice, she went back for Janice, she was close to her and pretended to faint so she went back to drag her out as well for them to ask for help. Then Janice grab a pan to hit her in the head, Gwynn fainted and Janice drag her back inside. At that time she was still not aware that Janice is the culprit. She cannot help his brother at that time because Gwynn was so tiny and small and the attacker was so big in build.

Normally, I'm not much of a believer in the theory of 'wounds meaning something' but in this case, in this terrible situation, I actually do totally buy it.
this case is so heartbreaking. the maguad children were raised so well and probably had such a bright future ahead.
What makes it even harder is that they had a kindness and compassion that most adults don't even have- much less teens.

I can’t get over how the kids literally were trying to negotiate and pitch adopting Janice to their parents and she did this to them. This kind of evil will never make sense.
The way her younger brother gave up his own room just to let Janice stay and get comfy in their house was really heart breaking. Gwenn deserves better to be honest.

That's not entirely true.
It's due almost ENTIRELY to "altruism" not being part of the human nature. It has to be cultivated, and even then, there's always a gain motivator (however tame it may be) that drives you to perform altruistic acts in the first place.
The studies on this are FASCINATING, but fair warning, also literally soul crushing.
The scientist that established and proved the science eventually ended up committing suicide, since he set out with the very very strong belief that it was an INNATE (or in other words, natural) part of our natures rather than not.
He couldn't handle the fact that we are geared to be monsters with our individual survival as the highest driving factor behind us all. It's no stretch to say that humans are light years from where we were when our species started its journey...our instincts and what drives us to be the way we are however, that hasn't changed very much if any in that same period of time.
It's frightening when you think about it.
@@TywinLannister666 this is nonsense, fun story tho. George Price admitted to being incorrect when he found Hamiltons work. He tried disproving it and instead repeatedly proved Hamilton right. Altruism exists through nature, across many species. Of course it's naturally carried in humans who live in family units and functioning societies. When he ended it, Price was just a sad man who'd lost everything trying to prove himself altruistic while not staying on his thyroid meds (which tends to increase depression).

It's worth noting that Janice actually was aware of the movie "Orphan" and had suggested that they watch it as a family at some point in her stay with the Maguads. But the father knowing full well what the nature of the movie was, refused to watch it with the kids. This was mentioned by Mr. Maguad in one of his initial interviews.

She's so bad ... The family adopted her without knowing her background.They really felt pity for the witch, especially the daughter. She said she wanted a sister. The orphan witch made friend with the daughter , because she knew her family had the means to let her stay at home. She is good at pretending. Then the orphan witch real sister also said in an interview that her behavior was really different when she was with them, , cursing and always yelled at them.
I believe 100% Janice had a hand in murdering at least Gwynn, because of the stabs Gwynn sustained on her face. Like you said, stabbing someone's face is so personal and especially to a woman, definitely there was jealousy to the act.

This is just so crazy. I was adopted from Russia when I was five blessed and thankful for my family. I can’t imagine being so jealous of my brothers that it would kill them like I can’t wrap my head around it.
When I was first adopted, I used to hide food so that I would save it for when I would be hungry because in the orphanage I wasn’t always fed. So I came to learn that I didn’t have to hide food because I would forget about it because I was being fed , there are lots of little things of acclimating to the family. I’m truly blessed and thankful.

Theres a quote i read about a parent. "A wife who loses a husband is called a widow. A husband who loses a wife is called a widower. A child who loses his parents is called an orphan. There is no word for a parent who loses a child. That’s how awful the loss is." Such a sad Moment for the parents RIP
I heard something terrible about that. The father of a victim of the Itaewon Halloween’s Tragedy said that (don’t quote me on that as I recall) children losing parents are called orphans but there’s no word for parents who lose children, but now he knows what they are called : sinners.

Janice is an awful, AWFUL monster. This is now she repays a family that has shown her nothing but kindness, its so devastating. This case absolutely infuriates me, and I truly hope she rots in prison for her crimes.

@@valentinasoftpaw5603 Trauma sadly doesn't justify one's actions. She can get better, but she still did what she did. Therefore, she is indeed what people would call a monster. You don't kill someone for attention. Yes, she was traumatized. She is now, due to it, evil. I do hope also she pays the consequences for her crimes. Doesn't matter if she is traumatized at this point. She still did it, and she still has to pay. It is her fault for her murders. She took someone's children. She deserves the consequences. Taking someones life means you throw yours away, and in her case, she did. And that was her choice. I hope she gets better, but she deserves the prison and consequences.
To see your child dead in front of you, that is the worst punishment a parent could have. Yet they are holding it together and trying to live, just for their children. As a child I am honored to hear about them. My heart goes out for them. As for a her, even though she is in prison, she is unlucky and unfortunate to have lost something that the god gifted her. She was unable to recognize it that she had a family, that she had parents, that she had siblings and most importantly she had a home.
I'm adopted. Your point about adopted kids feeling resentment and anger towards adoption agencies and the foster care system is spot on. I myself experienced that same resentment. But I moved on. I worked through it. Anyone who chooses to fester in that anger and malice just isn't a good person, no matter their past. That's the difference between good and bad people. Bad people let the bad things overwhelm them, good people do their best to move on. Janice is just a bad person. I hope people understand that adoption is always better than leaving an orphan in the system (except of course when a child is put in an abusive home), and there are ways to work through the emotional trauma of being orphaned and adopted. Almost all of the time, adoption saves and improves lives drastically. It's just devastating when one person chooses violence and hatred for so long that they feel the need to take it out on others.

It's not nearly as simple as you've made it out to be. "Festering in anger and malice" is not always a matter of choice, especially when someone has never been taught the healthy coping mechanisms that would have helped them work out their negative thoughts and feelings. The love of an adoptive family is often not enough for people like Janice to overcome their pasts; they need the help of professionals to make up for what they had lacked for so long.
@@miaomiaochan Of course it's not that simple. Morality is a fickle thing. But my point remains. It isn't always a choice to linger in the negative; certainly not, especially when it's all you know. You can't blame someone for the circumstances of their existence. That being said, people should still be held responsible and accountable for the choices they make, regardless of what drove them to do so.
I didn't learn healthy coping mechanisms until it was too late, and I'd already irreparably damaged some of my closest relationships. It was unequivocally, irrefutably my fault for hurting people, *on purpose*. I was not a good person, because I didn't even try to find a way out of my vitriolic spiral. I pushed away every offer of love and support extended to me. I turned my back on compassion and drowned myself in self-loathing. Maybe overwhelm isn't quite the right word. Consume seems more fitting. I was consumed by anger and the circumstances of my life, and because I actively chose not to do better, I made terrible choices and did terrible things. That's what made me a bad person.
Since then, I've worked on myself extensively. I've been to years upon years of therapy. And I'm still trying to repair the damage I've done. But I'd like to think that I'm not such a bad person anymore, because I choose to work past everything I used to be. That was my point; I sincerely hope it didn't sound like I was simplifying such a complex, nuanced topic.

@@satoru2169 before i explain, i want to make it clear that feelings aren't always rational; in fact, often times, they're quite the opposite.
that being said, i think it's cuz i felt as though something had been taken from me. what was that something? my biological mother/family ties. i felt as though this entire existence i was supposed to have (insofar as my birth mom was "supposed" to keep me) had been stolen from me by the people who adopted me, because they weren't my biological family.
i believe i felt this way because i wanted someone to blame for why i never felt like i belonged. it's human nature to look for something or someone to blame. the brain doesn't like not having answers, so sometimes it creates them, even if they don't actually make sense.
now, i'm sure it's not the same for everyone. this is just my personal experience, so don't take my word as gospel.
Yes, i agree. People have free will, we have a free choice for our actions, and some people just choose the bad or evil choice. Yes we can't chose our situations, but many people are in the same situation as Janice, some are much worse, but they didn't chose to kill or to steal
In one of the Maguad parents’ interviews, they stated that “Ate”(referring to Gwynn) almost escaped but saw Janice “collapsed” in the laundry room so Gwynn went back to the house for Janice not knowing that Janice is an accomplice.. She was trying to pull Janice and was encouraging her to get up so they can go get help.. i don’t understand how Janice can betray her like this.. As a mom, my heart breaks for the Maguads..
That’s even more horrifying. I wonder how they knew that. But it just goes to show how loving and altruistic Gwynn was as a person.

I think the saddest part is that Gwynn was the one who convinced her parents to adopt Janice… before the adoption Gwynn already became so close with Janice and it was like they were true sisters. They looked like the best of best friends. Gwynn thought she and Janice were going to be life long sisters and always be there for each other. She probably would’ve done anything to protect Janice if she was in harms way. And after everything they did for Janice she stabs the entire family in the back, and she killed her brother and completely slaughtered Gwynn.

The movie the Orphan was based on an actual true crime case. It’s so heartbreaking that Luis and Gwyn had to lose their lives after doing so much for Janice.

yeah, it's disgusting what janice did to gwynn's body. it's mentioned in the video that gwynn was missing an ear but my god it's way more than just a missing ear, janice absolutely mutilated that poor girl. you have to have true evil in you to want to do that to a person, let alone your own best friend and sister.

I am from the Philippines. They were from my neighboring hometown. The murdered children went to the same high school I went into. It was so sad and heart breaking. The family were like an example of good Samaritans. It was so sad that those poor kids who only extended love and were murdered so brutally because of jealousy. It was a huge case that my cousin was so invested into this case and gives us updates every time there is a new news from the case. I remember in an interview of Mr. Maguad, said that he remember Boy-boy went into a shrine that morning and comeback for lunch and asked his dad if they can eat on the same plate together (it's like a sweet Filipino gesture) little did he know, it will be their last meal together. It was life shattering.

The fact that the girl was in contact with her mother on FB tells me that her mother cared about her. Therefore, I think she is just an evil girl with bad intentions all the way around, Imagine how the family who took her in before this family feel? So relief she was gone out of their lives.
“They had to sew them together before their parents could hold a funeral” - I’ve watched a lot of crime documentaries and heard a lot of gruesome things but this is honestly sickening.
The parents have been keeping quiet for a long time until they can no longer hold it together. They've seen Janice a lot of times during court hearings and it's adding salt to the wound is the girl's smug face thinking she was innocent. NO REMORSE whatsoever! Aside from that because of the Juvenile Justice Act in the Philippines, Janice is protected and taken care of like an innocent child. She was made to believe that it was not entirely her fault due to her age hence the smugness and evil confidence. There were times when Janice stared at the parents with dagger eyes which added more pain to the grieving couple. This girl is pure evil and a psychopath!
As someone that was adopted into a big family of 3 siblings and about 4 grandchildren. At an age of 15. None of this makes sense. The whole, "I murdered for love" scenario goes out the window. Because no matter how much love your adoptive parents give you, there'll always be that fact/ thought that you're not their biological child. I mean at least that applies to me. But I'm never competing for love. I appreciate what I have. At the end of the day you can never wrap your head around these psychos train of thought. Sad that these two kids that vouched for this girl, for their parents to adopt ended up being victims of murder. Condolences to the parents, And may their kids Rest in peace.
The fact that the siblings she murdered so brutally are the ones that fought for her to be part of their family! They convinced their parents to let her be adopted into her home, only to have this done to them. Absolutely vile!

As an orphan, this crushes my fucking soul. We already have a HEAVY stigma against us because we are perceived as "broken" or "lesser than" most of the time, even by those with good intentions.
Please understand what im saying; I would have been willing to do ANYTHING, ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING to have a stable, loving family take me in and give me a place where I could maybe feel like I belonged. A place where, if I got lucky, I could've been family or had one.
The Maguads seems to be quite literally the perfect example of a family with a heavy altruistic/loving side as well as creative and progressive ideals. It crushes me that someone "like me" did something so fucking despicable. I don't like cursing this much but my blood is boiling.
Understand; so many of the kids like me would KILL (no pun intended, seriously) to be taken in by a family like this, and THIS is what she does? I would've made it my life's mission to become a real member of the family and eventually repay them in a fantastic way (in my dreams, lol) for giving an unwanted kid who knows that his own country doesn't care about a home.
It takes alot to make me sad, but this and the case with the delivery driver being hit by those kids recently crushed my soul. So much promise snuffed out by such ignorance and carelessness.

Also how you say you would want to pay your family back for having an unwanted child. I know not all adoptive parents are super caring etc but as a mother who has considered adoption I would never view that child as unwanted, bc they are. Even right now when I don't even know what my family will look like in the end that is still a very much wanted child in my eyes. I had hg with my son but want more children and just have this strong feeling to take care of every child that is lacking it in the world, the least I could do is help the ones I can. My only worry is, even though I would do everything in my power to make them not feel that way, me having a biological child I would be afraid of my adopted child feeling like they aren't as good as my ""real"" child

This is such a bizarre case. I'm left wondering if Janice always had the intention to kill the Maguad kids, possibly even before she was adopted, or if it developed over time. Psychopathy like this doesn't just spring up out of nowhere, she definitely had the capacity to kill before she was adopted. People like this are also known to be impulsive so she could have just had the thought one day and decided to act on it. Would also really like to know who the other 5 people she wanted to kill were. Possibly the Maguad parents? Her own parents?
I also don't really buy that she killed her siblings so she could be the only child. It hinges entirely on her never being caught, yet she confessed after just a few days (this also makes no sense because she clearly has no remorse). Not to mention she would be the only child of a completely broken family. I just don't really see an end goal, I think she killed those kids for no real reason other than she wanted to.
Very chilling that she went completely mask off after being caught. She did a scary good job of faking being an innocent teenager but as soon as she was caught she went full serial killed mode.
In Filipino culture, debt-of-gratitude ("utang na loob" in Filipino, literally "debt of the inner self") is a HUGE deal, and is one of the main moral compasses of Filipino society. The fact that she betrays it makes her crime absolutely heinous in the eyes of Filipinos. Unforgivable. If she had been a total stranger it would have actually made the crime easier accept. But she's not. She was shown a great kindness. And she repays it with murder.

My culture has a saying, “I give you my heart and you reach for my lungs”. Some people just can’t be loved. Makes you wonder if the family didn’t take her in and give her so much love to be jealous of, who else would she kill? Maybe these siblings were shielding the world from the next worst serial killer.

She pulled two amazing people out of the world. Imagine what they could have done to improve life for so many people.
Gwynn was actually the main as in main reason why their parents weren't mad at janice when she stole the money. When their parents were talking and thinking what to do about janice (I mean janice was still new to them. It hasn't been that long since they decided to adopt janice and then that situation immediately happened), gwynn decided to talk to their parents. She explained to them how they should give janice a second chance. She begged them to still let janice stay in their house. It's amazing how gwynn was the main reason why janice got home, food, studies, and family. I don't know her personally but just based on her achievements and personality, you could say that this woman will grow up beautifully, morally, fairly, and religiously. She has that big bright future. You could literally imagine how she would be a great doctor in the future. Yet this kind beautiful woman was brutally killed by the person whom she thought was her sister. You could literally see the anger on gwynn's dead body because of the way she was killed. And just thinking about losing both of your children from a person you already thought a daughter or family was heartbreaking
I remember when my younger adopted cousin (came from a poor family) would steal from my family and even steal my clothes to lend to his friends cause I saw it on pictures on his facebook profile and often wondered why my clothes/shoes were dirty or something. I made him pay secretly as I didnt want my parents to have him get kicked out.

The most heartbreaking part of this is that they had pure intention of letting this kid that they thought was an angel into their lives and there was really no way for them to know what she really is inside. Plenty of kids who have hard lives dont do this. Janice would have been just as entitled and manipulative if she came from a good home, only she wouldnt have murdered her siblings but become a politician and murdered people in a war or something else.

How heartbreaking. Something I noticed about the facebook posts that Janice made is that not only did she use emojis, but she also tagged the siblings. The fact that she thought to post on facebook after doing what she did is extremely disturbing. Also, the fact that the house was locked doesnt fit the story of three intruders getting in the house.

This is such an unfortunate case, and it reminds me of someone I knew. My only friend that I had in highschool had been adopted by her foster parents at the age of 16, and she was just overjoyed to have a family and a permanent home. She repaid them by trying to beat the mom to death a little over a year later. It felt like it came out of nowhere, and I just never saw her again after that because she was immediately shipped off to some facility in Michigan.
These cases are just extra unfortunate because so many orphans would do literally anything to be adopted into loving homes, and it just adds to the awful stigma already surrounding adoption. That same family has two other adopted kids who love their family and home. Like in this video, I don't know why my friend did what she did, but I just can't imagine why she would throw all of it away like that and want to hurt someone who had shown her so much love. She had some mental illness, but that doesn't make you a violent person. I wish I knew what happened. All I know is that my only friend vanished one day for reasons I could never begin to understand.
I was adopted at 5 years old (I remember a little too much for my own good tho) and I’m very grateful for the family I was blessed with. Not all adoption ends horribly.

I'm a Filipino and it is bewildering to me that you are covering this case. I remember when it was being reported real time. Also, if you are interested in doing another case from the Philippines, Jennifer Laude's case remain deep in my heart. She is a trans woman who was murdered by a US marine year 2014. It is a very frustrating case for many reason (it also got quite political because of the many questionable things that happened and some of the lawyers involved (seach Harry Roque and his involvement in this case and his position in the previous administration of the Philippines)). However, considering that the "suspect" was pardoned and living freely, I would understand if it is not possible.

Wow, is insane how this girl was so cared for and so seemingly happy in her life and then just entirely broke this healthy family to pieces.
I did a pattern of just lifting my drink and putting it back down on my leg 51 times to just understand how long that would be of just stabbing someone. It’s SO LONG. Add that to holding an object and literally cutting into flesh in multiple places, the energy it would take is crazy. It baffles me the sheer hatred you’d have to have in your heart to be able to do that. The perspective it gave me was fucking chilling. This girl is beyond sick.
The whole "looking for a motive" thing feels like a total waste of time. It sounds like she stopped stabbing them because her knife literally broke. There are very few 17 year olds with enough hate to do that to their worst enemy, let alone people who took her as family. She will almost certainly kill again when she gets out, there is something broken inside of her that cannot be fixed.
I love the way the story telling on this channel does so much to humanize the victims their families in each case that is talked about. Her section on the end about what the parents are doing now was so beautiful. Describing the restaurant as a way this family is sharing their love with the community is so sweet.

I followed this case when it was first aired here. And i saw the real image of the butchered gwyn and buboy. They said that what happened to them isn't just murder the ones who did it has some anger in them because of the trauma in their bodies. It was so disturbing. And just to correct you, Janice called them "Mama/Papa" after she murdered the siblings not before it happened. I am also following their social media accounts, and Mrs. Maguad said on one of her posts that on trial she caught Janice smiling creepy. And has no remorse on what she did.

I'm full Filipino so this story hits home. I have a few family members who have adopted children into their family. When I was young, I was aware that sometimes the transition of acquainting the child into a new environment had some bumps here and there, but as they got older, they became very grateful for the sacrifices that were made to give them a good life. Many of my family members live a very humble life, meaning we may not be part of the upper class bracket but we make the best of whatever we have, with what little we may earn from our jobs.
I feel so so incredibly sad for the mother and father who lost their two children due to this cold-hearted murderer's terrible, horrendous actions. :( Sending my hugs to them and their family.
People like Janice make people fear opening their hearts and homes to adopting when so many truly deserve to be adopted but have less of a chance because of evil ppl like Janice. I still cant believe he gave up his room for her he was so kind.
the most saddening thing is even after almost 2 years since this case, their parents (esp the mother) is still mourning for them on facebook. she constantly posts about them (i think as a coping mechanism) and as a way for people to remember their names. it's so sad that the person you gave a shelter to broke you and your family apart.

what is also bone-chilling and very emotional part is that in the confession. They said that Gwyn was saying "this is only just a dream, I have yet to become a doctor. Janice, what did I do to you?"

it's truly devastating that janice did this. i mean like, she was brought in and she got countless of love from her new family. she finally found a place where she could stay and wont have to worry about putting food on the table or working her butt off every single day. gywn and louise even convinced their parents to let janice be apart of the family since shes been enough already. janice never had a normal childhood and never really had any adult figures to lean onto.
killing off the people who appreciated, recogonized, and loved you the most just feel so wrong in so many ways. no, it's completely wrong in so many ways. the maguad family treated her fairly and with the same amount of love they gave to her other siblings. just for janice to kill her siblings just because of jealousy. janice had everything, but she still wanted more and more. she was craving for attention. which makes me so pissed because they did give her attention, but she wanted way more than they could've offered.

This is scary how she could just kill her own siblings when they had begged there own parents to adopt her. They were so good to her and this is what happed.And that is way people don't just let welcome people in.
I was adopted and I was(and still are)extremely thankful to my adoptive family for giving me a loving home. I don't see how anyone could ever do this. Ever.
She was actually not adopted but a working student whom this family treated her as a family member too. This family is fairly middle class as the parents worked as gov't teachers. She was given nice things by the daughter, she was on their Tiktoks, and everyone treated her nice. She killed the siblings because she was jealous and wanted to be their only daughter instead. When she was found bloodied, as she was arrested, she called the parents "Mom and Dad". As per Mr. Cruz, it was the first time this girl called them as such. When her FB account was opened, it was then found out that it was premeditated murder. Her chats showed just bajillion of hate and it's just pure evil. She killed the youngest second using his very own baseball bat. The daughter was killed but it was shown she fought back, she was killed first. Her blood dried down when the police arrived. It was really sad. The police immediately kept this case on the low after the murderer was caught. And then it was silent.
EDIT: If you check the FB of the relatives of the victims, they posted bunch of chats by Janice and the other murderer. You can see his name and stuff. He was just not given name nor face in the news.

@@kritisareen4104 from PH here. Most government employees "adopt" orphans or kids from bigger families to give them better lives. Just not on paper. We often call them adopted unless they live with us for livelihood or educational support purposes. My mom's a teacher and we have "adopted" and even fostered lots of kids but not everyone turned out great. just glad they never got to this.
genetics are so weird man. you can tell that janice was unfortunately already prone to callousness and a lack of empathy, a genetic temperament that was passed down from her parents who were, again, callous and cold enough to leave their 8 year old kid in a boat to ship her off forever to fend for herself. on top of her being prone to antisocial behaviors, her environment and the lack of security that comes with that, food insecurity a blinding jealous rage for the other, luckier kids she observed around her gave her the justification (in her mind!!!) to do what she did and do it so viciously. she is a perfect mix of nature AND nurture fucking a person up simultaneously.
but it is said it was Janice's own decision to be left there in the barge when she was a kid. she apparently told her biological sister at the pier that she wasn't going back home so she stayed in the barge..maybe bcuz she wanted to escape their poor living.. and to think this mindset came from an 8 year old is unusual.. normally at that age we wouldn't want to be separated from our family. she had guts..

Do we even know that her story about that is even true? Janice is the one who made that claim and we're later told her mother was actually in her life. She easily could have lied about her past.

You are very good at telling stories! I found myself easily hooked into the story of the Maguads. It’s saddening what happened to them--they did not deserve any of this. As a Filipino myself, this story hits very close to home, and it’s crazy to think that there are people capable of this level of depravity. My prayers go out for the peaceful rest of the Maguads.

Ive seen the film The Orphan, watched this video and given the opportunity, I would adopt as well. Plenty of biological kids kill their parents, siblings too, like the Ramirez brothers in California, so really you dont need to say this on the behalf of adopted children. We all know there are bad people everywhere and we musnt ignore the red flags. Its one thing to be kind, its another to be a willing doormat.
I agree. When I was 11 my family took in a 15 year old boy. He told us years later that he always prayed for a brother and he ended up gaining a brother and 4 sisters.
Now he is an amazing brother, father and man.

This wasn't just a case of mere jealousy; it was DENIAL in its rawest form. She knew she was being treated kindly and that the whole family was very good to her. She could not accept that such goodness exists. Most of all, she couldn't accept that she received it. She wanted it and she was aware of jealousy rearing its ugly head in her heart, but they continue to be nice and kind and treat her like family. Instead of letting that kindness influence her, she chose to deny it, because otherwise she'd be denying her feelings jealousy. She chose to fuel the negativity warping her and destroy this kindness. She didn't want to see it. She didn't want to keep seeing a girl her age that was so much better than her--in happiness and in virtue. I'm pretty sure this girl has inner turmoil and she didn't know how to handle it. (Therapy isn't a huge thing in PH; few people can access and/or afford it monetary-wise and time-wise.) I'm not absolving her of anything; she needs to be punished accordingly. But I just want to understand how she got into that state of mind. What I'm saying is she most likely denied the fact that she killed them which means the men breaking into the house is part of the "reality" she created for herself, and she believed it, but at the same time, half of her was also satisfied that she really did it. She has probably developed psychosis or schizophrenia.
For the two siblings, for all the horrific and terrible fate they endured in their last moments, I hope now they're more than rewarded for their good deeds in heaven. May their soul rest in peace.

It makes me mad and sad that these kind hearted, amazing people where murdered by someone they trusted and even loved and gave everything to, Makes me sad.
I feel like when children grow up with no affection or love it's very hard to accept it later in life. I speak from experience, sometimes affection isn't wanted just because they're not used to it. I feel like at that point in Janice's life she wasn't comfortable with all this new love and attention she was getting, (not to excuse her unspeakable actions) and was angry at her siblings for being so "normal". It's a very real thing to still feel alone even when you're surrounded by others. A truly heartbreaking situation for everyone involved and my prayers go out to the family and their children.

I remember when I first found out about this case, the suspect was still not determined. However, most of the people in social media had a feeling that it was really Janice. What made people think it was her was because she had the time to post for help on facebook and used a hefty amount of emojis. Another thing was that when the father arrived, Janice was just getting out of the shower. Logically, if you witnessed something too brutal, taking a shower is one of the last things you’d think of doing. That’s why the people were pointing their fingers at Janice and she finally got caught.
If I was in her position and was innocent, I would have lost my life fighting to defend my siblings. And if somehow I was alive after all of that, I wouldn’t risk potentially destroying any evidence around me or on me that could be used to bring the killers to justice. As I was listening to the story I thought that for sure she would have been found next to their bodies mourning or have run out of the house to get help.
Also what b.s. that she texted or posted on fb instead of calling the police. She wouldn’t have even had to speak much and could have just let the operator on the other end hear what was going on and record it all for evidence later.

The fact that she even posted in accurately spelled post (not even a single letter missed) make it seem like she's calm posting it. Not the reaction a person hiding from the murderers would react.
The authorities presented all the evidence they had against Janice. And Janice confessed to her lawyer that she was the one who killed her siblings. She remains in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The moment she turns 18, that's when she will be sent to jail for the adults.
@@dekkhhasso853 not sure how it works in the Philippines, but in the US juvenile hall goes up to age 25. That doesn't mean you can't get transferred to adult prison before that but usually if your sentence will be completed before age 25 and you are on good behavior you can stay past 18.
@@squiggs1002 sadly there’s no junevile Detention center in the country. Most of minor criminals ended up in care of social service center. As per Juvenile law those who commit a gruesome crime will be in trial at the age of 18, as of today what family can do is just to file a case and wait when the suspect turns 18 for trial.
Janice wasn't actually formally adopted by the family. She was simply taken in by the family, sent her to school and provided for her needs. Until she graduates from college and manage to get a job and provide for herself.
Mr. and Mrs. Maguad were working at different schools. Mrs. Maguad is a principal at a high school, while Mr. Maguad is a teacher at an elementary school. Or the other way around.
Prior to moving in with the Maguads, Janice works for Mrs. Maguads sister, if I'm not mistaken.
If I'm not mistaken, the mom said Janice started calling them mom and dad days prior to their children being murdered, which is actually a shock to them. Janice did so with the thought that after the 2 children are dead, she'll be the couple's only child.
I've read the messages between Janice and her friend (as mentioned here, but it's not "Marlon") prior the murder. It's crazy. She's a psychopath.

Although no one died as far as I remember, there was horrendous child abuse, including cannibalism wtf… Basically the “orphan” got their adopted mom to abuse her biological kids, with the help of her bio father’s cult (the “orphans” bio father). Her name is Barbora Škrlová. The case happened in the Czech Republic around 2005-2007.
When she was around 32 years old, she posed as Anicka, a 12-year-old girl, with a lot of health issues. I believe Barbora has hypopituitarism, which means that her pituitary gland does not produce enough growth hormones. Combined with some plastic surgery, she looked way younger than her actual age.
I hope the parents are okay . This is such as terrible, horrible and horrifying case. May they rest in peace 🕊 , Condolences to their parents and friends

It is so sad to know that this is definitely going to be someone's excuse about not adopting/fostering just because of the fear that is has happened. Imagine all the opportunities other children could have had with a new, loving family who are still in the foster system
My argument is that more likely than not this kinda of case will NEVER HAPPEN, and this was an unfortunate rare case of something bad happening in relation to adoption.

@@darthestar8791 yes this is a rare case you are right. I personally know a couple who want “their own child” and if they hear about this, I wouldn’t put it past them to say something ignorant about it. If one couple would say this then there are def more, but yes this also just brings more awareness and has positive affects as well. I was looking at it in a more pessimistic way before.

I'm from the Philippines, and this case shocked the country. We were internet investigators during that time because the way she thought of excuses to cover her tracks were very suspicious. I hope you cover many cases in the Philippines. Including the hazing cases here.

This is why almost nobody wants to adopt older kids, the damage someone or life done to them sometimes made them into bad peoples and it is big risk which is not worth it. Often ends with stealing, addictions, having "relations" with one of parents or siblings, abuse and sometimes murder. In least harmful option those kids never fully bonds to family who adopted them and treats them as ATM and free servants.
Every dead is sad but it really hits to realize that two very promising, inspiring lives were lost in this case. They had so much to offer.
