My first SLR (after I smashed by Diana to bits - lol) in 1969 with the 50mm f2. I couldn't afford the Ftn finder back then, so I got a Lunasix hand held instead. Why didn't I get the much cheaper Pentax Spotmatic or even the Ricoh TLS401? Well I didn't like stop down metering, the screw lens mount and the smaller coverage of the darker viewfinders. Also Nikon's shutter is of much better quality. Still use my F and the Lunasix, although I have got an Ftn now. Measures very well. And lately I have purchased two, now very affordable, Spotmatics and a Ricoh out of curiosity which have confirmed the choice I made as a beginning photographer. .. Nikon's F2 resolved two niggles with the F : 1 the film back is now hinged 2 the shutter button is now in a more ergonomic place. I used that for many years .. until switched to Nikon's FA Good times! Congrats on your purchase. A legendary Leica killer. .. . Now let's go out and take some nice shots!
I have a Nikon F with Photomic Ftn meter head with a Nikon Nippon Kogaku 50mm f/1.4 lens, camera body circa late 1971/early 1972; the lens somewhat older than that because it's labeled 'Nippon Kogaku'. Both excellent condition. The meter works fine I had to get a couple of voltage adjusting battery adaptors to use modern equivalent silver oxide batteries. I call my Nikon F the 'Ford vs. Ferrari' camera because the same camera appears early in the film 'Ford vs. Ferrari'. Love using mine it's an iconic piece of photographic history and I get a lot of 'what kind of camera is that?' questions.
Nice to meet you, I'm Japanese. I own two Nikon F cameras, which are also my father's belongings. I have both eye-level finder and FTN viewfinder, but I think it's better to use a stand-alone exposure meter with the eye-level finder.
Well, I just got lucky. I happened to find one at a flea market here very cheap. However, it’s in great shape and it was way below market price, had to grab it up!
Don’t get rid of it, in a lapse of judgement years back I let someone use it for a photo journaling session and never saw it again. I have been heartbroken over this camera. I still miss it.
The Nikon F with plain prism finder is still a very nice option. IMO, buying one with any of the several TTL prisms made over the years, not so much. The meters use mercury batteries, a constant issue with old meters, but which can be worked around. For the NIkon, the biggest issue is the unfortunate engineering and materials choices made at the time. Apart from looking like the chunky add-on they are, the electrical components have not borne the passage of time, failing with no repair parts and dubious repairs options. Nikon's efforts at TTL metering didn't reach prime time until the Nikkormat series launched. Somewhat oddly, Nikon's metering effort mirrored the TTL metering of Miranda body a full generation of cameras preceding the F. Miranda did it earlier and more cleanly styled. The Nikkormat closely copied their ideas.
@@randallstewart1224 Thanks for the info, and about the simple prism finder, I totally agree, it's very nice, the only problem is they are getting harder to find and more expensive
My 1st real camera was a SRT101 in '71. A great camera. But any budding photo journalist lusted for the F. Mowing lawns won't cut it. (Pun). In 2005 I bought one. Silver, mint, 1.2 lens. In heaven. I used it alot, & with darkroom gone, it cost alot. Mainly b/w. Digital doesn't compare in imho.
I got my BP Nikon F with plain prism recently, love it!
Awesome! I wanted to get a black one at first, but seems silver ones are easier to find and cheaper
What means 'BP'?

I also had the same camera and prisms. I love using them.
It's an amazing camera, specially with all the legacy behind it

It's amazing how this camera is loved during the past 60 years!
Nikon F+ seconic meter+ decent film = :)
True 👌
Holy grail portrait lens, the F mount 105/ 2.8. To this day. You want bokeh?
I should try it
The Holy grail lens is the f2.5, I believe.
I dont think any of todays' cameras will be still working in 60 years ... 🦘
So true!
