Howdy! I've been doing a 365 Days of Music challenge, and I picked this cover for Day 223! Here's the piece I wrote on it: Day 223: "Grape Garden" I've talked before in my list about how Kirby's Adventure has one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time. Every one of the level themes in Kirby's Adventure is a hit. And for the time, it had a pretty expansive soundtrack -- a unique level theme for all 7 worlds with two other level themes mixed in there...if I'm remembering right. That's nine unique and amazing tracks, with Grape Garden certainly being one of the best. It's a tranquil and floaty tune that fits perfectly with the cloudy environment Kirby trips through. Kirby's Return to Dreamland remastered the theme with a gorgeous piano-focused cover. And here, Steven Morris takes the theme and captures its original flow while somehow making it a little sleepier with the instrumentation and a few tempo changes. And I must say, I'm not the biggest melodica fan, but it's used wonderfully here to provide a light and airy solo at 1:35. The stringed instruments used throughout create a homey sort of sound, especially the lead guitar; the gentle percussion is just enough without being too much. The chimes aren't too sleepy, the drums aren't too loud. And that rainstick is a lovely touch. It's a wonderfully-balanced cover.
I just happened to be listening to Kirby music and remembered this was in my Watch later. There's really something special about Kirby music, the hype boss themes are amazing and very popular, but the regular levels are really cool too. I'm excited to play the new game.
