Regarding creek fishing combos: I suggest going whole hog and going straight to ultralight. It's just more fun. 13 Fishing Defy Silver UL, Okuma Celilo UL, and Shimano Sensalite UL are all pretty well regarded ~$50 ultralight rods. TFO trout & panfish UL is kind of a gold standard in the $100 range. 5'6"-6'6" is the sweet spot. Daiwa has several really good $30-70 1000 series spinning reels. Find the thinnest line you can find and go catch all the fish!

That bobber was in the kit for a reason. You can float your bait forever without snags. The fish don't know why it's staying at the same depth, they just see a tastey snack above the snags moving with the current. Bobber on, cast 10 to 15 feet upstream from the hole and float it in.

For tight accurate target areas I use Ugly Stick Dock Runner Spinning Reel and Fishing Rod Combo. It is 3ft long with 6lbs test. Cost me less than $30. I use canned corn kernels as bait. Use cast and drift for best results. I bank fish so I do not scare the fish by wading too much. I use 30 to 45 degree angled casts.

Light or Ultralight, no more that 5'. Bait- Spinner Baits like Blue Fox Vibrax or small Rooster Tails, Whopper Plopper or Choppo, or medium to small soft baits like a 3-4 Hellgrammite or craw. There is other options, but thats the basic. Also, to avoid a backlash, I've seen a lot of people using "triggerspin" or "underspin" closed-faced reels. They have a lower weight limit, but creek fish are usually on the smaller side anyway.

Daiwa Presso 6’6”-7’ UL spinning rod with a Daiwa Regal LT 2000D or Shimano Miravel 1000 with Hercules 6lb braid is my go-to. Perfect balance and you can handle any fish you’ll hook up with. The rod and reel(Regal) are $70 each and I have yet to find a nicer UL action rod for my needs. The copper accents also mirror each other nicely on the rod and reel if you’re into that kind of thing. Honestly a $15-$20 spinning combo from Walmart with 6-8 lb mono will work great. Y'all move too fast, make too much, splash too much and get too close to the hole. Try staying in ankle deep water when moving up stream. If you need to cool off fish the hole first. Fish the bottom also with a small sinker cast upstream and let the current carry the bait into and through the hole

Although that depends on the bait you use, what your fishing for, and how much you want to put into it. As you have said, you don't need an spend a ton to catch fish, it's just nicer. I also recommend a solid backpack that is nice on the shoulders for terminal tackle because it goes quick on bad days at the creek.

I like my 5’0 Mr. Crappie rod with a Daiwa Regal LT reel. I use it for creek, crappie, pond, and finesse fishing.

For creek fishing I recommend a St. Croix 5ft or 5'6 UL rod with a Diawa 1000 reel. I personally use the Diawa Fuego reel.

I promise the best creek gear is those collapsible fishing pole. They are actually really good. Add a good spinner real to it and you are golden. Some come with but its better to switch those out

5 or 6 foot Okuma Celilo (very affordable) and a 500 or 1000 size reel(Kast King is a great brand) and some 8lb braid will catch you tons of fish.

Trout Magnet, Trout Slayer, and Crappie Magnet are all great to have on you. I’ve caught nothing but Bass on crappie magnets so far this year.
    I recommend a 5’6-6’ L to M rod with a 2500-3000 reel but usually use a 4’8” UL with a 1000 for light stuff.
I personally use a 6’ ugly stik elite I use sometimes but I usually use:
    4’8” G.Loomis GCX Lite 4’8” UL with a Vanford 1000 and 4lbs Trout SOS
    or
5’9” St. Croix Avid M Extra Fast with a Stradic 3000 with 8lbs mono or a Vanford 3000 with 15lbs braid and a 6lbs flouro leader.

Honestly I fish small rivers smaller than your creek there and I’ve used an 8.5’ steelhead rod a lot. You should be able to use just about any rod you feel comfortable with. If you want a really short bit strong rod and you want to stick with the ice fishing combo (I used to use an ice combo on the creek behind my house too) maybe try like a heavier one made for lake trout or something. They make them 36” maybe longer.. and they’re a lot stiffer

Get a couple 5ft. Ultra light spinning combos. That’s my go to creek setup.

Try and find a few 5ft ugly stick ultralight rods. Perfect for pushing smaller streams. And strong enough to hook into the larger fish.

A Lews Wally Marshall combo is good. I use one for smaller fish and tight areas

I like this rod and reel combo for fishing on the cheap side not anything expensive like googan or shimano but has lasted me 6 years almost (Eagle Claw Glass Casting Combo - 5'6")

I know you were using kit's today, but my go to bait is a small Beetle spin and multiple color box of curly tails.
