  • Tupac Shakur, also known as 2Pac, was born in New York City in 1971. He grew up in East Harlem, a neighborhood known for its poverty and violence. His parents were both involved in the Black Panther Party, a political organization that fought for equal rights for African Americans. Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, was arrested while pregnant with him and had to defend herself in court while still carrying him in her womb. She was eventually acquitted of all charges.
As a child, Tupac showed a love for the arts, particularly acting and poetry. He attended the Baltimore School for the Arts where he studied theatre and dance. However, his family moved back to California where Tupac began to pursue a career in rap music.
In 1991, Tupac signed with Interscope Records and released his debut album, "2Pacalypse Now". The album was controversial due to its graphic descriptions of violence and police brutality, but it also showcased his talent as a rapper and lyricist. Tupac continued to release successful albums throughout the 90s, including "All Eyez on Me" which was certified diamond, selling over 10 million copies.
Tupac was not just a rapper, he was also an actor and activist. He starred in several movies, including "Poetic Justice" and "Above the Rim". He also spoke out about social issues, including racism, poverty, and police brutality.
Tragically, Tupac's life was cut short. On September 7, 1996, while attending the Mike Tyson vs Bruce Seldon boxing match in Las Vegas. Tupac was shot four times while stopped at a red light. He was rushed to the hospital but died six days later. The shooting remains unsolved to this day.
Despite his short life, Tupac left a lasting impact on the music industry and on society as a whole. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, and his music continues to inspire and resonate with fans around the world.
