These little wander and ponder trips are so relaxing. You never know what you will find when you go cross country in the wild. I really like your attention to snake conditions. Bites are rare, but if they happen in a remote area they can be serious or even deadly. I usually wear long pants, boots above the ankle and snake gaiters. The paranoid survive!

I think you're correct about the rock being volcanic in nature. Faults can tilt the layers and push them upwards.
I do the same kind of backcountry exploring here in northern AZ...
churchkey openers were used in the 40's and 50's, so those cans were probably from that time, interesting. good video.
