I know that this is a very old post, but I felt prompted to reply anyways. I was born and raised on the California coast (where I still reside), and I have only recently discovered the history behind the Kanaka Maoli blood within me. I am more Tongan that anything else, but I was raised in a Hawaiian environment as best as my busy parents could provide - and because of that, the Kanaka Maoli in me sings the loudest. I have been heartbroken as I have discovered the darker and whispered history behind me; but I look forward with pride as I plan to educate myself on my roots, and eventually join hands with Brothers and Sisters everywhere to continue to fight for the Land and People. Much Love.

If you want what I learned here which is real .. don't get off the plane and go to Waikiki .. go to waianae .. c buss or the 40 west. Even if get lickens don't be afraid it's a journey.
