#39 Countryside tradition: St. John's water

Six months after Christmas, the birth of St. John the Baptist is celebrated, the only saint, together with the Virgin Mary, whose earthly birth day (June 24) is celebrated, as well as that of martyrdom (August 29). dawn of time the custom, now almost forgotten, to make the bouquet of St. John's herbs. In the morning then, with perfumed water we rinsed our face and eyes to wash away any negativity
The preparation of San Giovanni water is one of the most important auspicious rites of the year for farmers because it coincides with the summer solstice. In fact, in summer, atmospheric phenomena such as sudden storms and drought can occur which risk endangering the harvest
