  • Walk-around video of the T-TRAK layout at the Des Moines Great Train Show 2023. The layout featured modules from 5 different clubs, plus a couple of individuals. The layout had nearly 200 modules, and the outside mainline was 12.72 scale miles long.
In addition to the N scale T-TRAK layout, there was also a small T-TRAK-Z layout displayed.
The clubs involved were the KC T-Nuts from Missouri/Kansas, DesMoiNTRAK and Iowa Central Model Railroad Group from Iowa, Star City NTRAK from Nebraska, and Great River Valley System from Minnesota.
There was also a representative from Kato with a display by the layout, with an advanced demonstration Big Boy unit on display, as well as information about Kato's Mini Diorama kits that they've been promoting to school STEAM programs.
A great time was had by all, and we had a steady stream of visitors to the layout throughout the weekend.

Thanks for the overview of the modules. This video almost looks like it was shot before the show opened to the public. When I was there it was surrounded by kids who were fascinated by the running trains. The modules just the right height for kids or someone in a wheelchair to view.

The music at times makes me feel sick due to its forensic sound. I love these modules though. My favorite train seen running was the zephyr.

when you add curves and straighhts on the same unit how to you ensure it will connect to the next unit?

In the case of a corner with a straight section added, the straight section is usually the same length as a standard module. In the case of track moving from the front to the back of the module, the track at each end is generally the same distance from either the front or the back, whichever it is closest to. Also, there will be a companion module somewhere in the row to bring the track back to the front. modules placed in between those can be placed backwards, so the modules will line up properly with the rest of the layout.

Airplane views from 1000 ft altitude. Nothing close up.
