  • Dove the Bajan Queen in Carlisle Bay. The 120 ft Bajan Queen can be penetrated; inside are two well-maintained diesel engines and a spiral staircase, interesting and easy to dive. When we dove it, the sun rays hit beautifully in the cargo hold. She was Barbados’ first tugboat named the “Pelican” when the Bridgetown Harbour was being constructed in the 1960’s. A decade later, as more modern tugboats were purchased; the Pelican was then converted to a party boat called “Bajan Queen”. When it was no longer profitable, it was donated to the Coastal Zone Management Unit (an agency of the Barbados government charged with monitoring and protecting the country’s coastal areas). The Bajan Queen was cleaned up and sunk on 19th May 2002 in Carlisle Bay Marine Park. Bajan Queen has had more ‘passengers’ as a ship wreck than she did as a floating vessel. She sits at 40 ft.
