2015 dodge ram promaster timing chain alignment. how to line up the timing marks. Engine had a p0302 misfire and low compression #2 performed a leak down found bad valve. Here is where I aligned the timing chain. There is a little arrow hidden you just need to look on the flat spot.

can the phasers be removed from the camshaft to replace cam and followers or dose it remain one assembly? i have an exhaust cam with flat lobes.

I never pulled the Phasers I pulled the cams whole because we were just replacing pistons

Yes they can. 32mm socket.

I am trying to avoid taking out the whole engine but need to line up the crankshaft. I can not see the dot is there anyway to know that it is in the right timing without seeing the dot

It has 3 chains, and you need to align up all 3.

Man, I don't and won't have my timing cover off because I'm just replacing cams but when I got the crankshaft to top dead center with the stick in the spark plug hole on valve 1 trick, lined up the slots on the phasers with the dark links and put it all back together, my timing was still off. Engine just cranks, clunks and stops. I've opened it up NINE times and I'm so frustrated.

You need to use a dial indicator to find TDC if you dont pull the cover. you can never do it by eyeball. With a stick you could be off by 20 degrees either way.

Also there is an intermediate chain in the cover. It is not just 2 chains it is 3.

It's just confusing that the dark links are lined up and it's still off. I'll order the dial, I guess! Thanks for the info.

Had my timing right but it was too late. One crank out of timing bent some valves. I can see down in the intake that they don't come back up to close tightly, just wide open.

Turns out I have bent valves due to interference and 5 of them don't close on bank 1 intake. $1500 is the cheapest quote so far and that's after buying all the gaskets and valves myself.
