    Day 557: A snowman appeared on the shuttle launch pad. Gus explained that it was there to insure safety.
    Day 602: The snowmen have started wearing gunlinks now. Gus says "Safety, duh!"
    Day 642: A snowman joined us in the sanctuary for a wedding. He lost his head just a bit and seemed to shed a melty tear during the ceremony. Gus sat next to him.
    Day 736: Marriage is on! The snowman cracked a joke about melting tailcaps and Gus was aroused and agreed to become his lover.
    Day 737: Tragedy! The wedding night was too hot for the new husband, and Gus is now a widow. It did add a new meaning to "Cuddle Puddle."

    The whole mechanoid fight where the crops died I imagined Delair asking Ralph, "Why didn't he berserk any of the centipedes?" and Ralph answering, "It's probably better not to ask questions. Nobody died, and we won't starve as a result, let's call it a win." Admittedly, the skip shenanigans were funnier.
    I think the reason for Slim only being in one relationship is that after the things they've been through having to "make" so many people guilty by punching wargs, having to eat so many people,, having to betray so many people, makes her have trouble seeing other people as... people. Just a bunch of walking meat as far as Slim is concerned. I bet she has nightmares of the cold encroaching and killing everybody leaving her alone. That would be hard to deal with, especially sleeping in the same bed. So yeah, I don't think age has much to do with it. That's my head canon at least.
    The moral guide being Dorian Grey is too funny. I love it. Also, I cannot understate the degree to which I don't mind the length. I actually enjoy it when your content is longer. Your voice is very pleasant. Keep up the amazing work. Every day that you upload a video (especially a longer one) I get a moodboost like, +20 watched a Francis John video that lasts some indeterminate period of time (:
    "... hunt them into oblivion, grind them up into chemfuel, the usual." That cracks me up.

    I've been doing max transhumanist, and it actually starts to pay off when you get the bionics installed. The neuro-charging, sleep-accelerating, and what not are all multiplicative bonuses, so stacking a 10% consciousness bonus on a 25% manipulation bonus is really good. The slightly higher efficiency of the bionic stomach helps to offset the hunger rate gain from sleep accelerating and neuro-charging, but only 12.5% bonus despite it's 125% part efficiency. Bionic components like stomachs, hearts, and limbs also don't contribute to pawn wealth.
    Basically, transhumanism sucks unless you stack the bonuses high. Bionics plus buildings will allow the pawns to be much better than the game will think, which may be a necessary advantage if you want to rip the threat cap off!

      I never thought of it that way. That moves transhumanists even farther into the late game meta, but transhumanists are already a late game meme to start with.

      I would lean towards nuclear stomachs that late game. You are always going to have max surgery chance to the cancers could be removed via surgery with only a 0.5% chance of death for every operation. Alternatively go full Lucy for maximum pawn power.
      I should point out that last I checked bionic parts do add to wealth, so generally you are better of having more pawn than highly upgraded pawns for fighting power. But once you hit raid cap I suppose it stops mattering.

      @@FrancisJohnYT I'm not sure if it's new, or if I'm totally misinformed, but I was under the impression that replacements for limbs and organs already present doesn't increase pawn wealth. Adding a psychic reader, or even an immunoenhancer, should increase wealth. I think it's just the basic bionic limbs, and the heart and eyes. The stomach I'm not sure about.
      Also yeah I may just be big stoopy bc I am definitely leaving the threat cap on. AFAIK archotech components of any type add to wealth, and so do additional mods. My transhumanist leader is worth around 17k butt naked!

    Just a suggestion, when pulling back from a mech raid beserk pulse will cover your retreat safely as long as it is on something tanky.
    Like the whole longer video thing. Was not sure this series was going to be up to the previous ones, but it exceeded my expectations.
    You could also make locust armour. The armour is.... OK... but it is an integrated jump pack and you can wear a shield belt wirh it. Handy if you don't use the ,'belts are not utility', mod.
    Power-wise, remember sunlamps are off at night, so there is a 6kw lower draw. The new 8.8kw draw from sleep accelerators is going to be not quite as onerous.

      Eh to be fair being a cannibal on the rim is easy as people for some reason no matter how many losses they take still keep showing up and food and cooking is a chore in most colonies well unless you do nutrient paste I guess that's like the peaceful way to not have to deal with food .

    Francis makes this seem easy, 24 pods, 12 ship reactors, all pawns with high tech armor and a nose jobs… I think we need a production graph as the one in Factorio. He’s probably pushing 10K science….

      Once you get to deep drills the game changes drastically. We have two crafters are 19-20 skill who spend all their time crafting, components, adv components and high tech armour.
      We have 4 full time miners and 1 part time. Three of the full time miners have double drill arms to keep us stocked in steel, plasteel and gold.
      I'm just bringing online another two dedicated crafters as well to ramp production up even more. Rimworld is a bit of a factory style game once you get far enough in.

      We would need to keep it clean every time it snows and I'm not willing to spend the time on it. I figure the odd snowman can be demolished if need be.
      Next time I'm summoning a shuttle I'll check for snowmen first.

    According to the Wiki the biosculptor can bring down a pawns age to 18, and I feel like slim should leave the ice sheet as a teenager
    Or maybe make everyone 18 then go to war with the Teen Coalition for not actually being teenagers

      It's just looking back at all the series you can see an escalating trend in evil. This series is feeling pretty mild compared to the last one even with the cannibalism and tail caps.

    When a raid letter says the raiders will breach your walls, they will pick out an assigned colonist bed and go straight for it. Since all your colonist beds are in the same room, you can know exactly where they are headed. The raiders will beat down any walls in their way on their quest to the bed.

    I have absolutely loved this colony. I think this tops the delightful silliness of the ridiculous perfectly adapted organism of the combat tile colony and the wonderful fun of Dogsbody. I think you should save this colony one you have essentially won, then come back to it and start a Save our ship 2 run from the victory condition of this colony (starting a SOS2 run from the beginning can also be fun, but it is an entirely different animal where you are swimming in steel and components) after SOS2 has updated for the rimworld 1.4 (I think). I'm making a guide for SOS2 that I'll finish sometime soon so you'll know generally which direction to go once you try SOS2 (as I've played thousands of hours in SOS2 and I love it so very much).
    God I love the number of weddings and all the love polygons. It cracks me up. You should consider doing it again.
    I love the evil of each of the ridiculous killboxes you've made.
    Also you're my favorite content creator, certainly my favorite rimworld content creator, and if I ever stop being an impoverished person, I'll support you on patreon!!! You should consider streaming some time! You might find it fun!

      Bear in mind that SOS2, even before you get any space tech, SOS2 changes the game via quest rewards (especially archowombs, which can hatch adorable archospiders). A first time player of SOS2 might want to be eased into it instead of starting with a full blown colony - ESPECIALLY if playing with additional game changing mods and/or DLCs (vanilla vampires here we come!)

    Francis, i just want to say I am LOVING this playthrough. I tried it myself and you think of the game so differently when it's just 1 pawn. I have a request. When I see the next episode that I see from my suggested it is sometimes the next episode, and sometimes not. a link to the playlist in the description and an end card of the playlist would help me find where I left off. the auto-play ISN'T good and jumps around to random episodes unless you format it as a Season/Episode format within settings. Thanks so much and keep up the great RImworld and ONI series!

    Yes, pets and beer. Since I once had a colony with a little puppy being an alcoholic, I tend to de-zone the beer rack for pets.
    Also, I once had a colony that had a pirate sapper raid that opened my storage room. On the absolute chaos of people fighting, a wild stallion rushed in and drank almost all the beer. It got hammered and passed out. Next day it was still in the storage room, hung-over and vomiting all over the place. I was so impressed that I tamed him. 😁

    It is sort of a mixed bag though. You get all these massive bonuses from all the weddings, but it only takes 1 or 2 deaths and then you can quickly get an unstoppable death spiral of berserk mood breaks.

    42:40 mass chaos skip is handy when there is urgency. i.e. explosions. It is useless 99% of the time but 1% the time it is the only thing that can save you. Trust me, I played your tribal wizards run with max pop challenge, full transhumanist wizard warriors.

    Could have installed the "Go Explore!" mod, then prompted the quest where a nearby settlement is doing a ship startup, raided them with your forces and taken over their ship. It's a seriously defended settlement in that mod with 4-6 mortars and all.

    You could roll over the theme of this base with the new DLC. I think children get introduced but I may be wrong... Make another "Love Puddle" colony and have a massive woven family tree started. You could even set them up with some schooling and brainwash your next generation to be anything.

      I would save 1-5 characters with character editor and import them into a fresh save in 1.4. That would be less likely to run into compatibility issues.

    I swear charity quests become the hardest quests to complete late game. Like "take care of 20 refugees and don't cut trees, kill animals, or mine because it's against their religion" or "donate 2000 herbal medicine/10000 silver" and it takes so long to haul everything that they leave before you can donate it all

    Lately FJ needed a specific plan to keep a playthrough fresh. I don't think that's going to be the case with the new DLC. It's going to be an age of unplanned discovery and emergent goals.

    The gunlink might work out very nicely if you have a high accuracy pawn (anyone at this point) and a legendary lance, and they can sit back safely and 1 shot people while the others are forward. No misses ever with that method.

    at some point you should consider forgoing the wind turbines in favor of more ship reactors. then you could get rid of the batteries and become immune to zzzt events (when no batteries in network, the conduit gets set on fire but no explosion happens)

      or build another sunlamp hydroponics setup to farm rice to power chemfuel generators, and since one hydroponics produces enougth rice to power one generator you get a net 20kW of "free" power
      one of the wind turbine fields should be enougth to fit everything and its a constant power source not like the ebbing wind turbines

      Converting the wind turbine area to ship reactors would be a great space saver. Of course the expense is insane. For the 12 reactors we already built it cost
      96 Advanced components, 840 Uranium, 3,360 Plasteel, 4,200 steel.
      With a little stretching we could fit in 16 reactors, but we would need to spend another year collecting the resources and crafting the advanced components.

    The thing with imperial trader is that you don't really want them. They don't offer anything special, trade with your royalty only and, the most important, use the "any orbital trader" event. So basically it's a tradeoff of 30% less exotic/combat/bulk ones in exchange for limited mix-and-match guys

      Imperial traders are good for three things: They sell more glittermeds, and they are guaranteed to stock royalty bionics. That's it though - combat suppliers are more likely to give you better weapons and armor, exotics are more likely to give you decent bionics and archotech, and bulk traders are guaranteed to carry enough raw resources to make whatever you want.
      Overall, unless you really want lots of glittermeds, imperial traders aren't worth it. You're better off revoking the title, then working your way up to knight/dame for the only useful permit (shuttle).

      In this playthrough I have found that slave traders stopped showing up all together. So like you said it's Bulk, Combat, Exotic with the Empire now added.
      Combat traders are useless now, only components and doomsdays I don't need. But they buy tailcaps so lots of silver.
      Bulk goods traders are better, Neutroamine, Components, Advanced Components. The Neutroamine is for crafting into wake up to sell to traders that don't buy caps.
      Exotic traders Neutroamine, Components, Advanced Components, Shock and insanity lances. They don't buy hats but we have cash from all the hats we sell and wake up we produce.
      Finally the Empire traders, Components, Advanced Components and Persona weapons. Also psychic sensitizers which we can't get anywhere else. The persona weapons can have big benefits. I would rank them better than weapons traders, maybe slightly weaker than Bulk goods with Exotic good traders being the best for us.
      This is all based on the time we are in right now. Late game with great equipment and flooded in cash. I am willing to roll the dice and hope we get a good persona weapon. Even if we don't the empire still has components and adv components that we need in droves so they are not much of a downgrade from the other traders.

    The point of mass chaos skip is to get your pawns out of the road if they walk into grenade while you blowing up the trees in the jungle
    Also saved my pawn once when I missed grenade to unstable power cell and blew up the grenadier in one hit

    Hmm… that Thrumbo is eating all the bonsai trees and the hunger meter seems stuck at 44.
    5 minutes later; 2 new Thrumbos and this one’s drinking 4 beers. They’ll fit right in.
    No bonsai tree shall ever be safe again.

    You could probably remove a few grow lamps by switching to a 100% eco friendly diet based of human meat nutrient paste only. You can keep a bunch a lavish carnivore meals in stock to use them as a mood drug in case of emergency, just like the tea. Removing a bunch of grow lamps can probably save even more power by reducing the need of heating such a large room (not that it is the biggest power drain in your base at the moment).
    You also have a bunch a "wasted" space inside your base due to the old plans that you did for personnal bedrooms, you can probably remove a lot of the inner walls to gain some space.
    The only problem i can see with all of that, is what would your pawns do of their days? You would gain a lot of productivity by lower sleeping times, higher work speed, fewer work hours needed (a lot less planting, a lot less cooking). That being said, they would probably spent 50% of their time doing mariage ceremonies anyway.

    5:45 Hold up, how many bonsai trees does it take to feed one thrumbo? How cost efficient vs space efficient is it to feed a thrumbo off of bonsai trees as opposed to grazing on hydroponics? On a temperate year round growing tile, are bonsai trees better at feeding thrumbo than grass tiles? I feel like bonsai trees have the potential to upset the dandelion meta.

      The thrumbos can eat the fine meal (meat and veg) but not the emergency Carnivore fine meals (meat only). I really need to do up a back of lavish meals as well for extra mood bonus.

    If they are hungry enough and there's no "proper reachable" food, thrumbos or any animal can and will consume as much as the entire stockpile of your happiness fuel, if they don't get downed or dead before it happens, a "standard" thrumbo, or any hard to tame animal, taming strategy was to box the sleeping beauty in a room without any food but only a stockpile of beer, they will eat until getting downed, you rescue it and hope for the animal rescue join chance as sometime, it has higher chance and safer than "normal" taming

    You don't actually need one per colonist, as they don't use it every day. There's probably ~1/4 of the time that they stand supercharged, and don't have the desire.

    I have to say that the reward from the pilgrim visit was a bit underwhelming, considering the only time I bothered with a reliquary, I received a doomsday. I didn't bother waiting to see what any other pilgrims gifted me, I was doing the Archonexus and just wanted it to be over, so I could start a normal, kill everything in the world run. :)

    Don't forget, you have the skipshield psycast now, so less need to burn those shieldpacks. Also, if you are using your killbox as well as skipshields/shieldpacks, you can use the gunlinks to crank up the shooting beyond insane levels.

      Skipshield might be useless in most gunfights since it doesn't let bullets out, but it could still save a shieldpack or two with clever positioning. Examples:
      Colonists are in range of centipede A and centipede B. Place a skipshield inbetween the colonists and centipede B, have all colonists focus fire centipede A.
      Colonist A is not in position to pop a shield pop. Place a skipshield adjacent to where Colonist A is going to stand, have the firing team hide in there until Colonist A is in position.
      Termites are shooting a wall. Place a skipshield over the wall to buy time.
      A raider starts aiming a doomsday. Place a skipshield in front of the raider. Have the firing line retreat so as to not hit the skipshield.
      A mixed melee/ranged raider group is attacking. Place a skipshield between the ranged enemies, and focus fire the melee units. Retreat afterwards to avoid shooting the skipshields.

      You can't shoot out of a skipshield, unfortunately. If you don't have a ton of melee a good use for it is to cast it on/in front of enemies to isolate them while you focus on their comrades. Good for putting in front of pikemen, for example.

      If you enslave them it makes the conversion easier for sure. But then you have to imprison them and break them all over again to hire them.
      Unless they are concrete hard to break or it's early game I tend to just risk it.

    You know, a classic rimworld trap from alpha used to be collapsing roofs on enemies. Normally it's with IEDs, but I forget if you can still manually detonate them or if they're all just proximity now.
    However, you can still collapse a roof if you use pillars and have your mass of pawns shoot the pillar out when the enemies are under its roof. It'd be fun to come up with a killbox that made use of that. It'll be expensive because you'd have to replace the pillars and IEDs after each raid, but would be hilarious.

      A falling roof is pretty tame unless it's overhead mountain. Normal roofs rarely cause serious injury, and while they are good in the early game when outlanders have tribal levels of armor, they'll barely scratch a centipede. Now if you drop overhead mountain on anything, it gets straight up deleted, but I am noticing a severe lack of mountains on the map, so that won't work

    Can you please explain the need for 12 ship reactors? You keep saying "this needs so much power" but I don't see it. Each pod only uses 50w when not in use. 50x24=1200w, but you are disconnecting them and only using 4 pods at a time: 20pods * 0w = 0w + 4pods * 200w = 800w needed at any given time. Why did you need 12000w of reactor power for this?

    That age reversal trait is always kinda a bummer, it just makes most of your pawns not available most of the time, I usually get rid of it after awhile when taking transhumanist.
    Maybe i can tweak the time it takes to biosculpt or theres a mod for that already?

      Only takes 2.8 days with the transhumanist meme and sterile tiles. Only needs to be done once very 60 days so it's pretty easy already.

    Why so many ship reactors instead of chemfuel? A sunlamp + hydroponics is power-positive when run on chemfuel. That costs dupe labor of course but you'd get a lot more power from it

      Each chem fuel generator is the same as a reactor. Running 12 chem fuel generators is a fair chunk of work. I wanted something a little easier to maintain. Plus I like the idea of running on a bunch of ship reactors it feels just the right amount of over the top.

      I think I need to make a list just to figure out what we can't use anymore. The doomsday rockets now exploding on contact with a low shield is a huge change.
      The explosion also penetrates the shield so you are not full protected anymore.
