I having been going to Torremlinos twice a year for the last ten years, im off again at the end of April, i love it there, it doesnt deserve the repuation it has, its unlike other tourist beach holiday desrination in Spain, it still has charm and a great Spanish vibe to it. The food is great and the locals always eager to teach you a little Spanish. Great video, it makes me want to jump on a plane right now, but i will have to wait till April, cant wait !

I lived in Spain for nine years from 1968 to 1977 and went to Torremolinos countless times... yet in this video I don't see anything familiar... it has changed so much... Few people even know that there is an actual Tower... Torre Molinos that the original town was named for... It used to be a little fishing village at one time... just like Marbella and all the little towns along the coast... Even when I used to go there it was known as a "tourist trap"... I lived in the lovely Mijas Pueblo... that at lleast is still recognizable today... I miss it so much... but now I live on Vancouver Island...

the colour is decided by the owner; the council doesn´t really care. That used to be a chinese restaurant. BTW, the bar in 2:51 is the oldest bar in town. It´s worth a visit.

I was there when I was extremely young and don't remember more than pictures in my mind. If anyone is from the area or familiar with the area - curious if anyone remembers a small hotel in the 80s called hostel loretto or hotel loretto (not sure exactly what it was called) owned by an older American couple. I would very much appreciate it if you please tell me whatever you know no matter how insignificant the detail it may be. I know they had a lot of expat and british guests. I also know that it eventually became a brothel or something before being demolished some time in the early 2000s to make way for new development but I forget its exact location other than it was a few blocks from the beach. I know it's a long shot but you never know, maybe someone out there knows something about it or was there.
@@LivingWalks Thanks I hope so too I'm always trying to find as much info as I can which is surprisingly difficult to come by. It would probably help if my Spanish speaking skills were any good. I know that it was in the same area once you reach the bottom and get out onto the street I think over to the left somewhere in those blocks. It's crazy I even remember any of this stuff considering I was about 3 years old then and I'm in my 30s now. I appreciate your video it made me really want to be there and visit some of those bars especially after being cooped up for so long.
Hello, Hostal Loreto I have just sold to a company which has built apartments and a commercial space today, I remember perfectly the Americans who managed the hostel from 1985 to 1995 approximately, I was a friend of his niece Amanda, they had a bar In the hostel with billiards and they had a dog of the Bearded Collie breed, we have a neighboring hostel on the same street, Hostal Micaela. Greetings from Torremolinos.
You can tell it isn't last summer by the completed pedestrianisation of Plaza Costa del Sol... I'm here now (end of March), and it looks magnificent. A new focal point for the town.

The pub shown at 7.39 in the video is at the top of the steps leading down to the beachfront. Be very careful there and keep your receipts. My wife and our friends were robbed by the staff only a few years ago. We paid our bills, us 17eu and our friends 50eu and sat and finished our beers. We even left a tip on the table before leaving. As we were wandering down the stairs to the beachfront a male member of staff from the pub asked us in very poor English to return which we did do. The waitress who we all paid our bills to was shouting at us hysterically in Spanish which started to worry us but we were still not sure what was happening. Then two Spanish policemen walked in and also shouted at us. The waitress wrote 17e and 50e on a napkin and waved it in our faces whilst continuing to shout at us. I asked the policemen if they could explain but they said they had no English. I know for a fact that Spanish police particularly in resorts such as Torremolinos are required to be able to speak English. We were threatened with arrest if we did not either pay both bills again or name the hotel our friends were staying at. It was clearly a scam and from what I learned from other tourists in the few days after it was a regular scam. Nothing we can do about it now except just warn everyone to be on their guard. Not all robbers in Spain are just muggers.
They were not policemen. Here they are well paid so they won't risk their jobs to steal ridiculous amounts. It has no sense. It is not the first scam with people who pretend they are policemen.
Nos grupa shop in minute 10:12 my boss said to me "go out" the last tuesday (12 of March) without reason... I can't belive....OMG... I don't know how I do now. How I will pay my rent now? My food....This is injustice
@@LivingWalks I lived years on the Costa and had two children born in Marbella;o) Fuengirola and Mijas are home to me,and I just prefer those places over Torremolinos and Benalmadena .We have had just bad experiences always on trips to these two neighbouring cities.Too much arrogance(why,I never found out) Too many steps and generally annoying.Sorry.To each their own I guess.

It's a boring very plain looking area .visit fuengorla which is only down the road

@@LivingWalks I lived years on the Costa and had two children born in Marbella;o) Fuengirola and Mijas are home to me,and I just prefer those places over Torremolinos and Benalmadena .We have had just bad experiences always on trips to these two neighbouring cities.Too much arrogance(why,I never found out) Too many steps and generally annoying.Sorry.To each their own I guess.
