I'm honestly wondering how different our culture would be without the Spanish colonization? Like how much of the traditions would be left in this day and age?
@@Cicada-oo7ti You should listen to other pre-colonail Philippine music. The Kulintang ensemble, the Kutiyapi, the flute music. It's all truly beautiful. I've been listening to various Filipino music recently, and with a simple TH-cam search you can find an array of videos of this music. It's not yet dead, and listening will help keep it that way. Amazingly, there are still places in the Philippines where there is virtually no western musical influence, so authentic Filipino music is still around. I'd recommend looking up and listening to master Samaon Sulaiman, for a start.
Hello Lyn, I Totally Loved the Music, You and the other person were "So Awesome" I love Traditional instruments, They sound so unique and Wonderful. "Keep doing your Best!" Love your music :)
WAAH THIS IS SO AMAZING! :D it saddens me that because of our modern generation, the society doesn't give enough appreciation for this kind of ethnic music.
I'm teaching my year 5 and 6 music students about world music. We've started in Australia and gone through Polynesia across Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and now the Philipines. China is next.

As yall may notice, that lute has one string. A single string, yet pressing it to those small circlets creates such beautiful and different notes much like a guitar but with a single string yall! Dope
+journeymanX Any folk combined with metal is awesome. Shredding has been around since Shamisens, Banjos, Pueto Rico Quatros, and Pipas. You can probably find at least 2 for each of these, ATLEAST. Folk music is fantastic!
We need more folk music coming out of the Philippines other than the annoying "OPM" nonsense playing. Real filipino music, like this is what more of us filipinos need to implement into our lives. Creating hybrid genres with our folk music sounds badass too, it shows our creativity.
My English husband brought me here.. While we were relaxing in bed ready to sleep, he asked me for any good Filipino instrumental music.. I said I don't know.. Then he played this vid without me looking.. And I said that's I don't recognize the music, I thought it was something else and he finally said that hey, that's tboli music.. And I was so shocked.. Didn't expect that we have our music in TH-cam now!! More pls...
the school should teach this in MAPEH subject so that it can pass through generations of Philippines and our Amazing culture should not vanish in our history
Hello. Greeting from Borneo. Your music instrument has a great sound. My tribe,Dayak, have an beautiful instrument too. Called Sape' and Kacapi. I think they are a little bit similar. Respect. :) Salamat :D
some tribes in mindanao called the string instrument kudyapi or kutyapi.. Borneo is very close to mindanao perhaps some instruments are the same. even our language has many the same words.
Thanks for posting, beautiful music.. But too much camera movement! I also wonder how these people would have felt about a camera going right up to their face..
This is a two string lute instrument called "hegalong" of Tboli tribe, Kudyapi of Visayas, but in Palawan term is callled Kusjapi or Kudlong. The shape of kusjapi or kudlong is pattern from the fresh water turtle carcass.
Can I download this to listen to while I'm doing my Arnis training? Come on Pinoys this is your culture and as an englishman I seem more interseted than the Pinoys I know who live here in the U.K. Pinoy pride I hear peple say so be proud of your past. God Bless Pinas!
this is before the spanish introduced guitars to the filipinos and before hip hop and country songs got introuced by the americans. this is our REAL culture.

Castle on the hill😂
That’s also because we have the colonial mentality where everything the westerners do are better than our own culture
I can die in battle peacefully with this song playing in my heart, as a filipino I appreciate this gift of the thousand islands.
Lol
as you observe their faces are serious beacuse they play for spirits of nature not to entertain someone.

Ms.Barbara Imao ... an uneducated fool
playing music to Aba. not to spirits.. they are not pagans as what the historians and the uncircumcised Jesuits made us believe.
Meiji uhmm it was Catholicism that made filipinos pray other dieties like the saints and the virgin daughter of babylon.
Beautiful song. It sounds like Medieval European music combined with American cowboy country music. I really like it.
What an interesting description, lol !

Actually, that lute has 2 strings. One does not have frets and is called a drone(iirc), which is really common among Philippine boat lutes
Pretty cool
I love the music. G-d bless everyone in the Philippines.
God bless you too
Thank you
