I 100% get her. I'm incapable of being "politely nice" when I'm not interested in something.
Usually I just avoid addressing it altogether to not bring down their mood. When it becomes unavoidable to say something though (like in a direct conversation), I'll have to try and find anything about it I can comment on in a positive light, like "interesting decision to do this thing that way; you don't see that often" or something... But it can happen that they specifically want to hear my direct opinion and I have to tell them that, "sorry, it's just not something that appeals to me personally".
I'm aware what people want to hear, but I physically can't bring myself to fake interest - even if it would be in my best interest, like with my boss. Been called "blunt" and "negative" for that before, but on the other hand I've also had people tell me that they value my input a lot, because they know I won't sugarcoat things or try to suck up to them. So I don't see a reason to change.
People who ask for your opinion but try to stop you from saying anything they don't want to hear are just egotists looking for an easy hit of validation. Being honest and polite is the best policy. The people who really matter will listen and respect what you have to say, even if they don't agree.

Free bad advice from a passive guy who doesn't like to lie about things but also doesn't want to be rude:
If this sort of thing happens you don't have to lie and say "Oh, I like it" when you don't, or you really don't care. Just make some kind of surface level observation about whatever it is, ask a simple question about it, and then let them fill in with their answer. They'll think you care enough about it to pay attention and ask a question about something that they like, and then they'll be happy to tell you about what they like about it, redirecting the question in their minds to one where they can continue to talk.
Works every time, provided you're good at sounding vaguely interested or naively ignorant.
I've slowly learned to do this over the past year and it really just comes down to adding sentences
Okayu has mastered the art of dealing with awkward situations.
This is a reason why it's hard to get along with everyone. We all have different tastes. If you are in a room with 10 other people who are excited about something you couldn't care less for, you'll have a hard time to express your honest thoughts about it if someone asks you. Usually i just reply honestly about it, but honesty usually makes you get pushed aside. Most people will probably just "read the room" and try to fit in, but that option usually just leads to your own unhappiness.
When it comes to hololive you can see that all of the girls they seem to have great personalities but they're all different and you can see some get along better with others because of those similar tastes they share. I feel like Towa wants to please every hololive girl but she can't because she has different thoughts, taste about different subjects / things and doesn't feel right lying about liking something that she doesn't like / care for.
Put it simply, Towa is cute and has good personality. Not very devilish behaviour from our cute purple devil.😆
Yeah, I 100% understand Towa's situation here. I have little to no interest in most things, and so it's often difficult to express excitement when someone is appealing for my opinion. There's a social pressure to go along with the mood so that you don't come off as an ass, but I also don't want to lie to their face or to myself either (I'm also a horrible liar). It can really make you feel like something's wrong with you when you can't conform to what everyone else wants as easily. You're either a mood-killer, a liar, or you avoid interaction altogether and are considered weird and boring.

I hate pretending to like something i don't, small talk, lying... but i also don't want to be the person who makes the mood awkward. It's a struggle lol.
Personally, I've embraced being open about it. Sometimes I can can manage to point out some aspect that does somewhat catch my attention, like "interesting they'd decide to handle this thing that way; that's not common" - but if they insist on me giving my direct opinion, I have to resort to telling them that "sorry, it's just not something that appeals to me personally".
Yeah, some can be weirded out by the bluntness, but I've had several people explicitly tell me that they value my opinion for that exact reason. So I don't feel the need to change.

Tbh, its normal reaction not to give people expected reaction for e.g negative or meh comment about what others like. I do this a lot and totally bogged my mind until I talked with my counsellor. They suggested its rather be honest and truer to yourself rather than lying. Its fine to say "not cute" or whatever not positive response, just dont degraded what people values.

"oh! I'm so glad you like it!"
It acknowledges their happiness at their new thing, but you're also not telling a lie to yourself by calling it cool/cute. Obviously, you wouldn't want to hurt their feelings by not liking the thing they like, and this is a good way to get around that by acknowledging the feelings themselves, not just the object of their affection.
Even if you don't like it, you still like them and are happy for them; that's what matters the most.

As a German I can confirm that. I'm physically incapable of faking interest in something that doesn't appeal to me. I'll try to be polite about it and find an interesting aspect that I can comment on - but if you insist on my direct opinion regardless, the best I can give you is a "sorry, it's just not for me personally".

I emphasize with Towa-sama here. She wants to be able to to say what she means without lying, but also not possibly ruining a relationship. 「くうきよみはめんどくさ。」is what I'm getting from this, as it's not an easy way to decipher it for the expected outcome one expects. Between Okayu and Mio-mama, Towa has examples of opposites to consider, but the solution is something she'll definitely need to find herself, as well as build the rapport with holomem that can cut through the fog.
Given the conversion that gave rise to this TMT existential crisis, it seems inevitable that this would happen. Sora-chan is a sweetheart and understands where Towa is coming from in the end. Hence, why she's thinking about it now and how she can effectively deal with it in her own mind when the standard of "cuteness" can be so varied between all 60+ of them, and not wanting to lie about something she may not have an interest in is the crux of the matter.
