  • Come along for a sunset ride in my turbine experimental helicopter. It is not the Mosquito XET, but an Eagle R&D Helicycle.

    Wow I didn't realize you have Juan Rivera helicycle. He is an incredible and intelligent man. I've talked to Juan many times. You do have one of the Better Built machines

      Thank you! Juan is incredible. I watched him build this helicycle on his blog in 2010. I had been looking for one for a while, and when I saw hid for sale, I had to jump on it. It is built incredibly well and flies amazing!

      Those are good machines, but I personally like the Helicycle from Eagle R&D better. I felt it was a better build quality. Have fun in whatever you do get!

      @@NateVolk I like the look of those, but I'm looking for factory build with no license required (though I'll be getting training for safety reasons regardless).

    • @NateVolk
      @NateVolk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OculusQuestFun Cool. The factory build option is super nice! Get some R-22 time for sure, even as a fixed wing pilot, I would have crashed in 1 minute without training. I got just enough training to practice, then got some more training in emergency procedures after I had been on my own for a bit. It's great fun!

    Where is the ride home debrief?
    Should keep those at the end of all videos. They are enjoyable and provide a sense of what is like, even though we are not directly experiencing it.

      I 100% agree with you! On this flight, I was pretty exhausted afterwards. When you are learning to fly, sometimes it takes all your energy to be safe :)
      Thanks for watching!

    Mr. Nate Volk, Can you tell me if the Helicycle helicopter has a heater in it and full door coverings for cold weather flying! ???

    • @NateVolk
      @NateVolk  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! You can run full doors, but I don't have them and I'm not aware of a heater option. I've flown down to 25 deg F and its not too bad with a jacket on. Thanks for watching!

      Better than an R-22. Pretty stable with lots of energy retention. Practice is a bit different with the turbine lag though :)

    How do you navigate with no GPS?

    • @NateVolk
      @NateVolk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s all line of sight. The charts are pretty detailed about roads, lakes, power lines etc, so you do a little planning beforehand. Then there’s always the compass, if you leave going West, home is to the East. Thanks for the comment!

    • @codmott286

      @@NateVolk you're able to read a map while in flight? What if you dont go only west, what if you go all sorts of directions on a scenic flight? Wouldnt you get disoriented?

    • @NateVolk
      @NateVolk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can’t read a paper map in this helicopter as it has no doors. Memorizing the map is part of the pre flight planning process. I know there is a hill by my airport with a tree right in the top, stuff like that really helps. I also keep my phone on me with a gps app in case I get lost. The best thing about a helicopter is you can basically land anywhere! So worst case, you can land and sort it out :)
