Thanks for sharing the equipment. The accessories you have with the radios especially the programming software will come in very handy. I definitely look forward to assisting you with acquiring your license you will enjoy it a lot.
Very cool and fun that you're getting into amateur radio. I have been a shortwave radio listener for a few years now. But have not pulled the trigger yet to step up to Ham radio and getting a transceiver. Take it easy Bruce :)
It sounds like you've been into radios for a long time. Doing research is a blast when the passion for it is there. Really looking forward to see where this is going.
fireballmalone1 Oh I am an old CBer from way back. When we would find out where all the girls were and relay info. I will try and be a little more serious this time. Who am I kidding Mike?
Fantastic looking radios Bruce! I have often thought about getting into amateur radio but honestly do not know much about it. I look forward to your progress. Have fun. Peace, Shane
Pennsylvania Shane I think it will be fun. These really didnt cost too much and should cover some of what I need at least. I am sure it could get real expensive fast. I am mainly going to look at just the handheld stuff.
That Hiking Guy It should be fun. I am going camping with Lars Londian in a couple weeks and he is pretty knowledgeable and we are looking into doing a chat series.
Hey Bruce, Nice little HT! The 2m activity is probably pretty high in your area. I have been an amateur for many years. I started out just as you and then Decided to go all out and spent a few thousand dollars on Towers antenna's amps, and Radios I had a small Studio at one time my microphone was a measly $500 LOL... but the most fun I have ever had on the radio was CW running QRP . QRP is so much easier and challenging I was just getting into S.O.T.A ( Summits on the air) before I decided to leave the radio at home. If I can be of any help let me know. I have a few pics of the old shack on FB if you want to give them a look.
Interesting video and you never know what you will be showing us.lol How are the radios working out and all you hoped they would be. Thats quite a set up for the price. Safe travels.
dseed Great. The person who is going to guide me, Lars Londian , went on a trip to the desert last weekend. He knows tons and will be a great resource. He goes over some neat things that are in that video that I will be putting up soon.
BRISTOL PREPPER Thanks. Subbed you back. This should be a lot of fun. Really would like to understand how this really works from a handheld perspective and really test them out that way.
Very good idea Bruce, been thinking about it myself but don't know the makes or models, was thinking about when you are stranded on a mountain and the mobile phone has no signal etc :) Tim
savedpurplecat Exactly Tim. I don't get reception in most of the areas I hike and it would be nice. It will be a while until I feel confident but will be taking these on my hikes and try and use them. Then convey what happened back. There are so many variables but it should be fun. I ordered a quad by the way. Another thing that will take some practice I am sure.
i have the same radio and have it tuned to my local repeaters and that has extended my range almost 40+ miles there not bad just got mine a few weeks ago i am also getting my ham licence very soon been a study bee lol but those little baofeng gt-3tps are going to surprize u with the stock antennas im sure i look forward to ur next video and i have subscribed and once u figure out how to program its easy from there lol
Harold Claytor Great Harold. It will be great to have you to work with on this. I am having issues with the USB cable right now, but feel I need to learn the stuff to understand what it is I am doing. What type of terrain have you tested in? I would love to know and share. Lets have some fun and get these babies working great.

and i almost forgot well i had it in the post that magically disappeared i've used this handy little radio mushroom hunting at hargus lake, tar hollow, ash/oldmans caves i love the woods and survival i camped out a whole summer back in 2008 as a survival test and well i'm hear lol first 2 weeks were the hardest i love a good hike a good adventure and nature i'm currently in ohio but have ventured threw kentucky and south carolina.
+VideosWorthSpreading I still need to get my license so that should also be in the next 2-3 years. Need to study up and stop procrastinating. Thanks for watching and look forward to what you think.
Any updates? I am new and getting ready to buy this set...your video was posted April 2015, just wondering are you still pleased with them? Did the CHIRP software work? Thanks so much!
Hi S.T. Sorry I missed this. I am still happy with them. Really no issues other than apparently the car adapter overloads the charger. I have mine ready in the cars, but had not charged them. Probably should check that charger system problem. I will be doing that personally. Yes I got the chirp to work great finally.

Ralph Cooper Good question, and as soon as I figure out how to take the battery off I will let you know. I know I slid it in from the bottom, but know it is either really tight or I am missing something. I was out last weekend with a ham instructor and he was going to show me something and he tried and didn't want to stress it so he just showed me on his. It comes with an 1800Mah LIon battery that supposedly has 10 hours of use. I would say my application is not to carry a second battery but to recharge it when needed as the added battery weight is not an option when I am hiking around here. It was the only one in this price range that did have the trail charging option.
Ascent 41 That is the question. In a line of sight scenario, so far I understand that with the curvature of the earth a man holding a radio with a normal antenna at 6ft above the ground will reach out 3.5 miles, so it will reach theoretically 7 miles to the other person holding a radio at 6ft above the ground. These radios have the capabilities to use other antenna as repeaters thus giving the ability to go further or say around or over something like a mountain.
Just started with scanner GT-3TP mar3 and I have already programmed 20 frequances in it. However, when I let the device scan channels, it only scans 5-9-12 and 17. Not the other, what did I do wrong? The device also does not accept the 446.0000 frequency (answer CANCEL). Do you have a solution for me? Thanks.
I just received mine from the same seller, Nichone on Ebay, Very slow shipper and it took them almost a week to get it in the mail, but I paid 84.00 for 2 of them as a set, I am like you though, still gotta work on getting a license, a lot of it is hard to understand and so far, it looks like it's going to cost 65.00 for the license
I really need to get my rear in gear. I see the potential and the testing or really using season is here. I really need to understand how to use it in the Cascade mountains. Hope to get some updated use videos soon. Like your bike too.
I had same issue with waiting too long in my opinion for the shipping. Still trying to figure out HOW TO PROGRAM IT....and later getting the license for Hamm radio's.
I bought a Baofeng Gt 3 mark ii a little while and it works great...so I ordered my brother one but I mistakenly ordered a GT 3TP mark ii.....I can enter any frequency into mine...but he can't enter anything higher than 150.999.....it says its programable from 136.000 to 174.000 (like mine) but it it wont let us.... any ideas why??? i have done a little research and read that if it say cancel then hit the band button but this hasn't helped. it seems to be preprogrammed not to let it go above 151.....i did not need CHIRP for mine....i just turned it on and it was good to go......it is a big let down when mine works great. Thx T
toby pryndik There is a place in Chirp where that range can be configure to the same as yours, opened up more. I saw a video on how to do that but I don't think it was GT3 specific. Something on programming. When I can get mine to work on Chirp I did find it. I think it is under the Radio tab in the radio defaults section.
Just a fyi, be careful about charging. See video on car charging. Melted radio. Car is over 12v and appears no regulation of power in plug for autos. Just passing on info I watched in video yesterday
Great video - I'm thinking about connecting one to a sena headset via a sena sr10. Any idea what type of connector cable the radio takes in the programming/mic port (e.g. kenwood, icom...?). Thanks.

Hello I wonder which radio is better. The BF UV82HX (8W) or BF GT-3TP Mark 3 (8W) I want to get a good talk range and clear voice. What do you think? Thank You!

I personally haven't used the car charger, even though I have them in the car to be ready. This is what I have found. "he 12 volt cig vehicle adaptor as the charging base unit runs quite happy on its ac power unit that reduces the ac to a modest 10volts dc for the input. Using this cig adaptor in the car on a 12 volt input that increases to 14.9 volts when driving will overheat the regulstor in the base charger and cause a fire, i notice on eday and amazon no warning notice has been given with the sale of these car adaptors and wonder as to why they are even added to the baofeng gt3 package. the wall charger delivers 10V 0.5 amps. The radio is supplied with a cigarette lighter adapter that allows the 13.8V to pass through, melting the charging base and creating a fire hazard. Needs a little 10V regulator installed in the cigarette lighter adapter.
