Something so small … yet they both just said f it, and opened their minds and hearts. Everyone should see this and remember, what is love? Fun. Laughter, dancing, being in the moment, just as you are.
@katwil89 Just watched the show for the first time this past week, even though I was around for when it originally aired. Since I'm not in its targeted demographic, maybe I just didn't have any interest back then? Anyway, when I saw this scene sitting alone in my apartment, I said the same thing you did almost word for word out loud to myself.
this scene always brings me to tears.. tears of joy for Ricky. He was SO fed up with all the stress and B.S. in his life up til that point and he said, you know what Fuck it! His dance was such a release. Such an affirmation. This is what being Gay is SUPPOSED to feel like. Pure fun and love and joy-and in this moment he captured it and threw away all his troubles if just for this moment. Rapture! Amen Ricky!
Exactly. That moment of self-granted freedom to allow yourself to BE yourself and be happy. I always remember this scene when I hear this song. Props for the MOK profile pic, btw.👍💯
For some bizarre reason, Wikipedia does not list this scene in the song's cultural legacy. Weird, bc like so many others, Ricky's dance with Delia is the first thing I think of when I hear it!
Straight, bio female elder millennial and this scene made me feel SEEN! Ricky was before his time! I feel like I would’ve been more comfortable with who I was if things were more open 30 years ago.
Same. Their unabashed joy and shamelessness is everything I wanted as an insecure teen who hated myself. I've come a long way, but I always come back to this scene.
Love Love Love this scene. This scene was the most memorable from show for me. , Also, the scene where Jordan holds Angela's hand in public for the first time. It stood in my mind for all these years.
I love Delia's confused "wtf" expression around 48 seconds before she gets into it, lol. So many memorable scenes from this show, Rickis dance is definitely one of them
@@iwaisman I'm aware. I've seen the show countless times since it first aired. I just always loved Delia's facial expression when she first sees Ricki dancing .
Absolutely will always love this scene! Ricky has always been my favorite character on MSCL and him just feeling the music, not caring what anyone thinks is so fun to watch. Then Delia kinda not knowing what to think but then choosing not to judge and just be in the moment with Ricky. Plus Haddaway’s What is Love is just an amazing song! “What is love? Baby don’t hurt me, no more…”
This whole series was amazing when I first saw it when I was 18 or 19. Still to this day, this is one of the scenes that stands out in my mind after 23 or so years. Absolutely love it!
watched this show when it first aired and this is one of the best scenes from it. thought of it every time i heard this song thereafter, even AFTER "night at the roxbury"!
At the end of this scene it was so obvious that Angela and Brian were meant for each other, standing together like a couple of grumpy introverts watching everyone else dance. The wall between them was due to their stupid teenage reputations, but after high school was over I imagined them just getting together and staying together.
I heard this tune today and came here for this specific scene Ricky was the coolest then and now I knew what was up as I had gay friends from elementary school through the present Some of my best memories were being friends with them but especially parties and without a doubt the clubs all night long even past the sunrise Unforgettable
Is it just me, or is there another revelation at minute 1:38? I feel like the jock is gay, by the way he is watching Ricky dance, but even more by the reaction in the eyes of his girlfriend at this moment. Damn... season 2 could have been a m a a z i n g!
Khalid Watson yeah I noticed this too, it made me wonder because they had write within the boundaries and parameters of the time they had to be more subtle with these suggestions
No, it's just showing how, for girls, the typical jock/dumb straight guy is hot but boring. Sharon wished they could be moving like that on the dancefloor, but he's just a dumb jock. He's staring at Ricky dance because he's a boring straight guy.
What is Kyle's look about? I always suspected that it was a hint that he was gay and deeply in the closet, and Sharon intuitively picked up on that a little bit. In any event, he was seriously into that dance, and Sharon was disturbed by his enthusiasm. Of course we sadly never got any further than season one, so who knows.
I swear to God me and my friend had a moment like this!! Any LGBTQ+ watching this? IT IS OKAY. Because not only will some of those assholes bullies want to be your friend later in life? They were also sexually struggling. Be strong. Be bold..be FREE.
Anyone have any theories about Sharon & what she was feeling when she was looking at Kyle? For me, it was a look of disappointment and discontent. Not just with Kyle & how simplistic he was but her own life and even the dance she organised and put together for everyone. I always felt like her character hid behind the appearance of perfection and having everything together in her life but none of it really meant anything to her deep down. She was yearning for more and trying to find herself just as much as the other characters. I think she was just far better at hiding it.
Sharon did everything to make this dance great and be the star of it, and based on Kyle's reaction, I think you see what it was like to see someone enjoying the moment and not trying to micromanage it. Ricky and Delia were so in the moment and fun, which is completely the opposite of how Sharon treats the relationship with Kyle. I also love the ambiguity that you don't know if Kyle is admiring Delia's fearlessness or Ricky's. I always thought that he was digging Delia's sense of abandon....but maybe it was Ricky's. Cool either way.
Bryan fucking had it with Delia. I thought she was far less dramatic than Angela who was clearly hung up on Jordan and dude never had a chance ever. But Delia was bubbly, had a positive outlook, and while maybe not conventionally attractive she had an off brand cuteness that i remember thinking bryan hit the lottery here but he fucking threw away the ticket. This actress actually did a fair amount of work in her day and is a very beautiful woman. You blew it Bryan!!! 😂😂
@@GypsyFairy85 He is on the outside of everything. He wanted to bring Delia until he thought he had a chance to bring Angela. And in the end they both hated him. He is probably wondering what he did wrong, even though that is clear to the audience.
He is a very lonely boy. An only child , his parents are both shrinks. They make him suffer a lot. And it's very similar at school. He's smart via books but that's all. Not socially skilled.
no it was the other way. Angela, realizing that Jordan isn't coming, asks "so do you want to like, dance or something?" and Brian, repulsed by her double play, says "not with you."
@@Mary-Contrary no he’s asked her first when he blew Ricky off thinking they were gonna do date shit , then Angela realizes he also must have blown off Delia , she tells him he’s heartless and leaves then after this scene she asks if he wants to dance and he says not with you
Hey isnt that the girl from the first scary movie? 😂 the chubby one that goes to get the beers and Ghost face finds her there and she tries to get out the garage door? 😂😂 gets stuck and breaks it and Ghostface runs out scared? Lol

So, how many of you 90s teenagers just teared up watching this? I know I did..
.how far my Rickie, Angela & Jordan have come ...💕
I love that close up of Brian's face when he realized how stupid he was.
😂😂Yup, he lost his chance
Big fucking ups for Delia not scooting away in fear, but trying to match Ricky's moves. Everyone is right to credit him, but she's just as brave.
Well, she made her move showing up alone. Sharon praised her for that.
Delia is a strong- willed girl.
I felt so happy for Ricky when I saw this scene.
Xena: Destroyer of Nations - me too, and Delia. Brian was so shitty to her.

For at least three reasons one of the best scenes on television, in one of the best episodes on television ever.
All the actors here were so young, yet so amazing about capturing a moment that rang and rings true on very deep, formative level for many teens.
One of the best shows of the 90s.

One of favorite episodes is this scene. Ricky aka Enrique kills it on the dance floor 🔥 🔥 🔥

Here is a masterclass in how to reveal who characters are without a single line of dialogue.
This song brings me joy because I love the scene. 🥰

Mario Fernandes that’s what I understood, that she realized the monotony of their relationship.
My thought exactly...as I play this over for the 75th time or more.

Didn't Angela ask Brian to dance right before this, and he said no? Somehow that seems relevant to this scene in the same way.
