      Thank you very much! Still a lot of work to do and bits to fix as your saw but we enjoy the hobby so it's not too bad.

    I just commented on you previous video about fitting signals which I have just discovered now I've discovered this and I seee you are fitting them. Keith

      Very much in the plan! I was tinkering the other day with some of the automation.

    Excellent presentation, I liked how you showed the layout & explained the purpose and or function of that area.
    The raised bed is very nice & I would think much easier to maintain too.
    This gives me a lot of ideas for my soon to be in the works layout. Absolutely an awesome setup.
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge & this video. It is greatly appreciated.🚂🚃🚃

      Glad you enjoyed it! I know I've had a lot of questions as we've got through this journey. I found the G Scale Society and the GScaleCentral.net forums were really helpful to learn more.
      We're going to keep posting videos so let us know if there are any topics we share with you.
      The raised beds turned out really well - but the main reason for them was to keep the railway at the same (approximate) height of the garage.

    This is great I look forward to following the progress and how you get on with automation

      Thank you! Yes, us to. We've got a test track in the garage to start playing with and understanding how it all works.

      @@hsbagardenrailway I look forward to seeing it and how to make it a workable solution

    Looks awesome, always things to work on and things to improve. You could try to hide the electrical boxes (that line the fence) with fake rock work or building fronts with false backs.

    • @hsbagardenrailway
      @hsbagardenrailway  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, we're playing with some ideas for that as the boxes and the wall is quite jarring. Thanks for the ideas!

    Lovely. I'm curious, how do you manage water collecting in the lower portions of the patio areas inside the layout walls?

    • @hsbagardenrailway
      @hsbagardenrailway  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! At the end of the dining table it isn't paved - instead there is gravel for the water/run-off to drain away. There is similar towards the pond area hidden under the artificial grass. In the last 2 winters, we've never had a problem with standing water and we hope that continues🤞
      Also, Nikki and I are a huge fan of your layout, Marcus. You've done an incredible job with it! Thank you for your videos

      Cheers! That all makes sense, well done. Glad you're enjoying my railway as well here in Canada. It's turning 25 years old this year. Happy railroading!

      Appreciated! However, these days, there seems to be more maintenance and building repairs than running. All part of the hobby though.

    Your videos are getting better and better, very nice overview.
    Regarding the walls: Have you thought about modelling fake rocks in concrete or plaster? Similar to how it is done in theme parks and such?
    Just one small thing: The audio was making it difficult to understand for me as a non-native speaker. You were speaking rather quiet and quick, so I couldn't understand all you said. But I'm sure that will get better when you're more used to being in front of the camera.

    • @hsbagardenrailway
      @hsbagardenrailway  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Sven. I'm enjoying the process of making them and learning a lot (learning almost as much as the hobby itself)
      Regarding the rocks, yes, it is something I've thought about but I was a little worried about how it would turn out. I think I could find somewhere out of the way to practice the styling of it. Do you have any tips?
      Yes, I'm really sorry about that. I considered simply not uploading the video because of it. Nikki and I noticed it when we watched it back. I didn't use a mic in some shots and my AirPods weren't very good in the distance shots. Then there was a lot of noise of being outside (cars, wind etc) and finally, you're right - I speak too quickly anyway. Next time, I will practice speaking more slowly and I've ordered a new mic to help. I really appreciate the comments and feedback though!

    I've been studying your layout over the last couple of days. It looks like something that would work in my space, but with a lot of modifications. I just got into G scale, and my 2-8-8-2 Mallet can't do such tight curves. Plus the whole yard is flat, no stepping down from porch or deck. That last element where the train exits the tunnel under the teardrop is not really something I can do. Can you tell me about your larger switches, and curves?

    • @hsbagardenrailway
      @hsbagardenrailway  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark - welcome to the hobby. If it helps, you can see a complete track plan of the layout on our site (hsbagardenrailway.com/the-layout/).
      That it's a big loco! I'm assuming it is the Aristocraft one?
      Almost all the curves were designed to be a minimum of LGB R3 (1.2m / 4ft radius). There was 1 planned exception which was round the back of the waterfall on the upper line - here there are 5 LGB R2s given the space. I also found out after installing them that the curved Piko switches are tighter than LGB R3 on the inside track. It's not a big issue for us as you can see we use smaller locos and almost entirely LGB which are happy with the together curves but understand this won't work for your use case.
      The switches are almost all LGB R3 switches and Train Line 45. They have the exact same measurements. The big difference is the Train Line 45 switches come with a metal frog should you wish to use it (we don't). I also mentioned the Piko curved switches that also helped with space but -may- not be right for your setup.
      Our yard did start out flat (you can see some old pictures here: th-cam.com/video/QJ_m523R0Rs/w-d-xo.html) but we extended the patio from the sunroom around the conservatory because the house was higher. The tunnel cross has caused some issues as I mentioned - it's fine but has caused a couple of accidents and more than a couple close misses. It's something I'd do different next time.
      Let me know if you've got other questions / if I can be of help.

      @@hsbagardenrailway yes, Aristo-Craft loco, it can go as small as 8ft diameter. I have ran it on Piko R5 in just an oval. I also have an upgraded Bachmann 4-6-0, and an LGB 0-4-0, and another Aristo-Craft diesel I'll run in place or the steam loco for normal runs.

    • @hsbagardenrailway
      @hsbagardenrailway  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! So I guess you’ll be needing the R5s then for your layout?
