      You fathers was so right! I’m almost 70 years old and did not make anywhere near the money my friends made because they were college educated and I trade school educated. But, I lived the same but on a smaller scale. And as Mrs Lynn said, I can go to Europe today, buy designer, donate to charity or what ever I want but can they? NO.

      @scorpion777silvermoon3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      OMG I just learned to say NO only 2 years ago. It was hard but I leanred my bro and sister didn't help me when I used to bend over backwards to help them. Take off work and manage my money to share with them. They left me hanging didn't repay none of money they borrowed. So when I finally came up. I just say NO and I don't even really talk to them. They were only contacting me when they needed MONEY or to sit with the kids. I was like let their dad's folks keep them. I hated to be that way but they were taking up too much time and I would buy stuff fo them and they didn't take care of the things they didn't Respect me. So I basially disappeared from their world and I work on myself. I'm not listening to relationship stories. Don't burden me with that BS.. I'm enjoying my life. I love watching YT videos during pre covid i like to go to fun things and etc. We have to respect ourselves

It thought me "buy it on a credit, you can always pay it later" or that someone will always be there to buy you everything you want with no work. Don't do that to your children. 1. Feelings. Don't let your feelings motivate your financial decisions
    2. Family. Don't let family members cause you to continue unhealthy financial patterns
    3. Friends. Surround yourself with people who are moving in the right direction financially, who are good stewards
    4. Food. Don't waste your money
    5. Fun. Have fun, but within limits. Don't be extravagant when you're trying to get established.

She helped family in the Caribbean and they could not even put together and buy her a wreath when she died. The things that were said to her by those she helped. When she died I heard from one she helped and another she did not regularly but the others not until recently. All I saw was ingratitude from those she helped. I will help but not to the detriment of me. I became financially savvy late in life but I am working on improving my financial situation.

    I don’t agree. Though financial independence is important, it’s not the determining factor for happiness. Just because someone is broke doesn’t mean they can’t be your friend. I don’t seek broke friends but I have friends that are broke and I love them just the same as I do the ones that are well to do. I have been broke before too. I don’t have to provide financial support to them but I can definitely provide moral support. You can’t just abandon people because they are not financially stable or on the same level as you. What happened to important values like commitment, honesty, reliability integrity, love, appreciation... ?

      I think all info should be taken with a grain of salt. If you see a friend who is honestly trying to improve their life then don't abandon them. You heard her say she tries to teach those who aren't where she is at. That implies she didn't fully leave them. I know a millionaire who kind of says the same thing. He has 2 groups of friends. The ones with money and the ones without. He loves them both. I learned he basically made 3 agreements with himself when socializing with his "broke friends".
      1 - He stopped loaning money. Instead when he does "loan" he gives with the expectation of never getting it back. He said that was the only way to keep negative feelings away. He also never gives money he actually needs or would impact his business if he never got it back.
      2 - Limits his time with them. He can easily lose the majority of a day hanging out with them accomplishing nothing. Again, it is fun, but he has multiple businesses to run. Half a day gone can equal 100's of thousands of dollars in lost revenue.
      3 - Understand and be prepared to talk about the same broke things they talked about last time. Yes, he has fun with them but he makes sure he has his mindset right.

    I love your advice! I am Filipino, and was raised in the culture where family Must be helped, supported even after the children are already married, have children of their own, still living free with the parents. When I first arrived from the Philippines, I was exposed to the American way of thinking which I thought at first was being heartless, when infact, it's really not. I realized that one has to be mean in order to be kind. Your kids may hate you for not buying them expensive phone, clothes, etc, that you are requiring them to go to school, get a job, and pay for those "toys" they want, even require them to pay you rent once they got a job. I now realize that this is the best way to train your kids to be self-sufficient, to learn how to survive on their own in case, you suddenly die! This way, they will not resort to a life of crime just to get what they want because they know that working for it is better. One has to be mean in order to be kind.

    • @misspriss2482
      @misspriss2482 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes, you can and you're going to have to if you don't want to stay broke. Their failure to plan/spend wisely is NOT your problem or responsibility. Helping somebody out every once in a while because they're working hard but still need occasional help? Sure. But if your family is anything like mine, they blow their money and make plans for your money every time you get your taxes, get paid and/or you get a bonus at work. They "borrow" it but then start poor-mouthing about how they can't afford to pay it back. You've probably been made to feel like you are doing them wrong when you tell them no, but you're not. Constantly giving them money is not helping them; it's teaching them that they never have to learn how to manage their money because they can always come to you.

    So much value in a lot of what you're saying. However, true "friends" need to have more in common than their similar financial positions and attitudes about money. Otherwise, you have little more than a bunch of superficial, fair-weather running buddies. True friends are emotional, psychological, and spiritual supporters of the good in your life, and they don't need money to have a strong and positive impact. I seek after and cultivate friends who know God (and God knows them), so that when they pray for me, God actually listens to them.

    I believe many people end up rich and sad because of that one F you mentioned. Friends. When you get rid of your friends because they don't have money and get new friends that do you get new forced friends who are really not your friends but your associates. I believe you can keep your friends, broke or not and still get associates who are moving in the same direction you are. As long as your friends or friend do not interfere with your plans or demand things from you. Real friends won't do that. They will support you and give you the space you need to grow. And that's what folks need. Real friends. Broke or not. That will keep you happy no matter where you are in life.
