Now you're talking. If you listen to Moonage Daydream from the same concert you'll see and hear the greatest live guitar solo or the 70s. This may be 2nd though. Mick Ronson was a rock star too and the early Bowie music we love just wouldn't have been the same without him.
In 1974 there was really no way to see these acts other than going to shows…except for late night shows like midnight special, in concert etc. i was 14 years old and tuned in one night and THIS concert was on. I had no idea who these guys were but it blew my mind. Made me a bowie FANATIC. I learned EVERYTHING. It also was the catalyst for me learning to play guitar…and Mick Ronson to this day is my all time favorite guitarist. His body of work is astounding. Not enough levels of ‘like’ for this one!
Mick Ronson, a true musical genius. He played guitar and piano, he also did string and brass arrangements and was a producer. Check out the album Transformer, by Lou Reed, produced by Ronson and Bowie. You'll probably have heard Walk On the Wild Side, but the entire album is worth a listen. Together with The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust one on the defining albums of the early seventies. But both Reed and Bowie, great songwriters as they were, were made even better by Ronson's magic. He is underrated perhaps by the general public, but not by those who know.
Bowie is just a magician from another galaxy. He just captivates you without even trying. I'm not even going to try and explain it. LOL! So strange and wonderful.
This was in his glam pre cocaine days. The mime was intentional, as he learnt under UK mime artist Lindsay Kemp and also toured with him in a mime play set to music written at the time of his debut album. You must listen to the title track from the Aladdin Sane album.
L33, you said, you don't know what you're getting when you see David Bowie ,well that's how we felt back in the days, we just didn't know what we were going to see when we went to his concerts and we were always soooo pleasantly surprised. I saw him transform many times throughout his career❤👍🏻🥰❤❤
When those strobes kick in and Trevor and Mick start doing the swashbuckling guitar / bass battle, and Woody is just hammering the skins. To top it off the arena is full of young women losing their minds over it !
I owned this as a bootleg in the 70s. It was then released as Ziggy Stardust the Motion Picture. Any and every Bowie fan needs to own this soundtrack and see the movie.
Yesss , fully agree !! I got the vinyl àlbum and cassete !!! (jewels for all the rock músic lovers). from my youth , i' m 62 and a great early Bowie's fan.
And I'm 65. I have all the early Bowie in many formats. I also own at least a dozen bootlegs. Many are available now like Santa Monica Oct. 72 or Nassau Coliseum 76 I think.
Yes, I'm 67 and also had the bootleg at the time. A committed Bowie fan since pre-Hunky Dory. When he left us, I cried and got a tattoo: his initial D, followed by the Aladdin Sane flash (correct colors), followed by his initial B, all sandwiched between his birthdate on top (01.08.1947) and his death date on the bottom (01.10. 2016). It's on my right bicep. Thom in Toronto, Canada ♥️🇨🇦
You really should check out “Beside Bowie” a documentary about Mick Ronson, It will fill in a lot of gaps. Ronson Is easily the most underrated guitarist of the era. The entire Man Who Sold the world album is worth a spin, Bowie at his heaviest!
Well, you jumped on the right ride. Bowie has continued to keep it exciting for me for the past 45 plus years. iv been a fan.Im still discovering music, songs that iv never heard before. It's a journey.Iv seen him live twice , and both times are absolutely mesmerising.
Mick Ronson one the all time great guitarists. He had classical training and was also an amazing producer and arranger who worked with many artists on landmark albums. By all accounts Ronson was a very nice guy, liked by all, very sad when he passed after a long illness, too young. He didn't get a lot of credit for many things he did on records and songs during his time with Bowie in the early 70s.
I saw this at the movie theater in Austin when it was released in 1983. Stunning on that giant screen. I saw Bowie on his ‘Let’s Dance’ Serious Moonlight Tour too that summer. Totally different. Woodmansey, Bolder, and Ronson were The Spiders From Mars, Bowie’s classic band. Ronson was the leader, of course, an absolutely brilliant guitar player, pianist, arranger, scorer,… I went to see him play with Ian Hunter at a cowboy bar in the Northside of Fort Worth about 1990, a very relaxed gig where they stood around talking afterwards, and I was so glad I went. Bowie was cold, abandoned people who helped him, cut all ties, but he regretted doing that to Ronson, who was so trusting, such a good person. He did bring him onstage to play with him at Live Aid, but wouldn’t you?
This video was from the movie “The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars”. This particular song is from Bowie’s album “The Man who sold the world” which by the way is a fantastic album.
I keep forgetting how awesome this part of the show is! Bowie did several costume changes throughout that's where he went during the solo. You should definitely check out the whole show! "Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture" It was the last show of Ziggy & he announced that it "would be the last show we'll ever do" His bandmates, except for Mick Ronson & his manager didn't know he was gonna say that so pretty much everyone got fired after this show lol it's a piece of Rock History. Loved your reaction as always ☺
So great seeing Mick Ronson here. I miss his musicality and this video adds to his solo album output & sterling support of other artists. Bowie wasn't bad either! 😉
A friend was at this concert, the final Ziggy Stardust performance. Bowie famously didn't tell me band who were shocked by his announcement at the end of the concert. I love the drumming here.
All the songs from this Concert Film are amazing! Try the live "Ziggy Stardust" and "Moonage Daydream". At times, Bowie really seems to be a space alien, who is playing at being a human, being dangerous and seductive, caught up in the seduction of being human. And Mick Ronson is a GREAT guitarist. I love when he "fights" the Bass Player, suggesting the growing conflict within Ziggy's Alien band (The Spiders from Mars). The final song in the Film, "Rock and Roll Suicide" is particularly shocking because it's the last time Bowie ever performed as "Ziggy", and he announces the end without warning the "Spiders".
What a great choice!!! For me Bowie's best concert as Ziggy Stardust, Hammersmith Odeon in '73. With a great and sadly underrated Mick Ronson. Pure Bowie, expressive genius, pure rock'n roll. This concert is iconic and legendary, check out Rock'n Roll Suicide, just before he starts singing he addresses the audience with a speech where he says goodbye to the tour and unexpectedly breaks up with his band The Spiders from Mars, surprising everyone. Keep on rocking guy and thanks a lot for react to all the Best Bowie.
Yeah, I love Bowie but I think that was really bad form. Apparently even the band didn't know that was the end. I did read an article many years ago which said Ronson may have been in on it.
Mick Ronson on 🎸💥just fantastic. I played the hell out of this tune when i purchased this album. Great lyrics as well and changes in the song. All that stage performance under $10.00 probably.
I don't think anyone has reacted to this song before. Some of Bowie's most experimental stuff was on this album and because im so familiar with it, I can't watch the live performance.
Bowie left the stage at the guitar solo, probably for his costume change. Arguably his best live album, but David Live puts up a good fight. Bowie's Tin Machine band gets pretty heavy at times. Enjoy the Bowie hole! The album OUTSIDE is incredible! You, sir, are amazing! Thom in Toronto, Canada ♥️🇨🇦
Hope you get to read this, I got my first Bowie album well over 50 years ago for my 10th birthday, still listening to this iconic genius today. Listen to the full albums, man who sold the world, ESPECIALLY the track, All the Madmen, Bowie wrote about his brother Terry who suffered with his mental health and sadly took his own life in the 80s. Also Listen to the album space oddity,,,Bowie did in fact study mime in the 60s and often included it in his live performances. ALSO check out Bowie and Marianne Faithfull live, singing Chers, I've got you babe, cheers, Tony here in the UK 🇬🇧
I'd definitely suggest checking out the album cut, it's incredible. Bowie has always been as much a performer as a musician. And he studied mime and was quite proficient with it. Love him!
Dude, if you wanna hear what I think is Bowie’s best live album you have to listen to David Live at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia. TH-cam has the complete (double) album with added songs that were performed but wouldn’t fit on the album. If you can’t react to it that’s cool. Do it on your own time just so you can hear it. It was recorded in 1974 . North American part of the tour that’s on video now. Somewhere between that show and Philadelphia he changed into “TheThin White Duke”. The concert includes songs from 3 previous albums, Ziggy, Alladin Sane, and Diamond Dogs. There’s a shit load of lead guitar including a lead duel with the saxophone player. Soo I hope get a chance, give it a listen. By the way, the concert sold out before I could get tickets. I was 17. Did see him two times few years later. In the mean time, Rock and Roll Suicide, live in Japan.🥹 please 🖖🍻
Kel Rhoads took a Young Randy Rhoads to see David Bowie on this tour at the Santa Monica Theatre. After seeing Mick Ronson play Moonage Daydream & Width of a Circle. Young Randy cut his hair like Mick Ronson Dressed Like Mick Ronson and got a Guitar just like Ronson’s. U should check out from the same Movie“Moonage Daydream
Far prefer the album version, but seeing David perform is always a joy. For years I couldn't work out why he looked so strange, then I realised it was his lack of eyebrows for most of the 70s.
Hope you find other things that will do you some good soon! - Maybe you wanna do a whole album sometimes? "The Man Who Sold the World" would be a great choice. It's Bowies hardrock-thing and great! - And do yourself some good and watch the whole Ziggy-Movie. Great concert-movie and famous, because he kills his Ziggy-Persona on stage.
Hi Lee, you've recently discovered my own personal jesus. You could do requests for the great man twice a week and still be amazed by his music next Christmas. To enjoy Bowie live, you should maybe do albums first. Aladdin Sane is my favourite album ever, sorry Diamond Dogs, it's very close. And it also just pips Floyd's WYWH, sorry Animals.
Want something different? You should check out Edgar Winter Group: FRANKENSTEIN....or, he and his brother playing with his brother's band: Johnny Winter: doing TOBACCO ROAD....UNREAL!! Two GREAT SONGS!!! THANKS for this BOWIE tune!! LOVE HIM!!! RIP, DAVID BOWIE!!
As great as this live performance is, the "David Live" version is even better. David has Earl Slick on guitar, David Sanborn on sax and Mike Garson on piano. David studied Mime with Lindsey Kemp.
Lindsay Kemp taught Bowie (and Kate Bush) stage art / dance / mime. Done any Kate?? Sings like a talented alien - she's amazing! Try studio video of Wuthering Heights.... :)
Now you're talking. If you listen to Moonage Daydream from the same concert you'll see and hear the greatest live guitar solo or the 70s. This may be 2nd though. Mick Ronson was a rock star too and the early Bowie music we love just wouldn't have been the same without him.
Mick Ronson was an absolute genius! R.I.P.
The Man Who Sold the World was a metal album. Just listen.
agreed
And one of his best
Yeah, it's very heavy, very full sound. Love it!
In 1974 there was really no way to see these acts other than going to shows…except for late night shows like midnight special, in concert etc. i was 14 years old and tuned in one night and THIS concert was on. Mick was the Best.
I was lucky enough to see Iggy open for Bowie. Unreal energy and performances by both. Perfect pairing.
Mick Ronson, a true musical genius. He played guitar and piano, he also did string and brass arrangements and was a producer. Mick Ronson kills it!!!
When those strobes kick in and Trevor and Mick start doing the swashbuckling guitar / bass battle, and Woody is just hammering the skins. To top it off the arena is full of young women losing their minds over it !
One of my favorite Bowie albums.
Brilliant. Classic Bowie ❤
Spokesperson for the strange

@@rghilino6734Nassau Coliseum has a great version of Stay if I remember correctly.
Killer Station to Station too.

In one word…ICON

The founder of Glam Rock...Bowie was fearless, out of the Box just dosen't cut it...
Yes i would like you to react to David Bowie - It's No Game (No. 1). Thank you so much.
With Fripp on guitar!
yes
Over the top performance!
Moonage Daydream from the same show is great

Aladdin sane is also a great album by Bowie. Especially the song “Watch that Man”.
You were right the guitarist is Mick Ronson, another amazing musician that is no longer with us
Mick Ronson on 🎸💥just fantastic. I played the hell out of this tune when i purchased this album. Great lyrics as well and changes in the song. All that stage performance under $10.00 probably.
They need something a couple of magnitudes greater than "Like". Really effing unbelievable I can't stand it is more like it
Woody killed it on drums
I don't think anyone has reacted to this song before. Some of Bowie's most experimental stuff was on this album and because im so familiar with it, I can't watch the live performance.
The late great Mick Ronson on guitar. Check out "She Shook Me Cold" for some great hard rock.
That song kicks it big time.
Yeah. You will like the studio version. It's what you would hope for.
Bowie left the stage at the guitar solo, probably for his costume change.
Arguably his best live album, but David Live puts up a good fight.

I saw Bowie in the 1990 tour, which was like a Changes / Greatest Hits tour, he was amazing! Ryko had just reissued his entire catalog that year.
I wish I could thumbs up this a few hundred times
What is Bowie doing through out that guitar spectacular? Apparently changing costumes
See the whole concert. Yes, it is a concept album.
probably the best rock tune ever!
Gigs don't come much better than this.
Kel Rhoads took a Young Randy Rhoads to see David Bowie on this tour at the Santa Monica Theatre. After seeing Mick Ronson play Moonage Daydream & Width of a Circle. The concert when he sacked the spiders

I've liked KB since buying the Wuthering Heights 7 inch. Ariel is her best IMHO.
Please review Bowie's Lazarus video
Oh to be a 16 year old girl at that concert...
It's kind of a pity they upped the tempo of this song, which is a more menacing beast on the original album.
Strange choice because it’s much longer than the album version
And we think Taylor Swift is interesting.
Bowie's peak. After he dumped Ronson he was never as good.
Oh, God, no, not a mime! Please...
