I listened to there live video again and love the sounds of the flutes and horns that guy is really good playing them exactly as they were back in the beginning even better ,? Awesome tunes everyone of them. Thanks
Saw them in Wisconsin spring '77 and summer '79, and Mr Hodgson in Milwaukee fall of '17 and '18.

I saw this tour at the Uptown theater in Chicago in may of 1977, a few weeks before graduating high school. I was forever changed. Fast forward nearly 50 years... I work for a major communications company and my crew was tasked with placing a fiber optic cable to a very rural northern california home which we later discovered was a studio. While there, Roger came out of his home and was so very pleasant and humble. I immediately knew who he was and was blown away. Respecting his privacy, I referred to him as "Mr. Hodgson" and told him that his music has always inspired me and has stayed with me all these years.

I also lived in beautiful Norcal to be exact, Marysville area.
I was told by a few people over the years that him, and one of the Moody blues singers live in the very familiar Grass Valley/Nevada city area. Those Sierra mountains with highway 20 running through it are stunningly beautiful. Took that winding highway to Reno many times. Saw Glen Campbell at Grass Valley fairgrounds in concert. What a treat that was.
Many actors, singers, and musicians live and love that area, including Whitesnake Lead man, David Coverdale, and I believe the great Clint Walker.
The same exact thing happened to me in '97. Lol
I saw it in San Diego. Roger's wife give birth to their child just before the concert.

He’ll Ya My Dearest Friend!!!, Saw This Stellar Band 2 Nites in a row At The Fabulous Forum In LA!!! In The 70s. Simply Stellar!!! Then At The LA Sports Arena all In The 70s!!!i Incredible!!!! Then Went To See Roger Hodgson as a Solo Artist and his Band in 1998 and Saw and met him in The Parking Lot at The Galaxy Concert Theater!!! In Santa Ana Cal , turned around after getting out of My Car and there he was all by himself walking thru the parking Lot, I yelled out Roger and scared him! And said Hi !! It was Me and My Wife!! And I said I saw Supertramp at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium!! Then he walked over to Us!!! He was so Nice and Shook Our Hands and said ThankYou!!!! Will never forget how Nice He was After I sacred Heckout Of Him, And Then He Thanked Us for coming to see him! A Way Cool Guy!!!
I was 21 in 79. Saw them in Phoenix AZ. Great show, great music, lights and video backdrop. Especially on Rudy.

Ditto! Have gone to concerts for 45 years. Tramp is in my top 10, and I am so glad my wife and kids saw them in the 2010's. Only bands I didn't see was the Beatles and the Bee Gees!!!

And FORTUNATELY I was listening 🎧 to it early and often. American Top 🎩 40, with Kasey Kasem, Wolfman Jack, Rock 100, WDIZ; WRBQ, Tampa St Petersburg; WBT, Charlotte NC; 15 WLAC, with the Bear 🐻, 710 WGBS, Miami. 🎉🎉🎉❤🎉🎉🎉
It's because of bands like Supertramp The 70s were very Big but this guys weren't just another rock band...❤
45 years later and the bass playing of Dougie Thompson still gets right to my soul. Such an inspiration for a 13 year old kid just handed a new K Mart bass because my oldest brother, guitar player, and next oldest brother, drummer said, time to take a break from learning 6 string and play bass. Mm okay! His understanding of how not to get lost with so much going on at once was incredible. Too often bass is just kind of hanging out in the background, but Dougie put the bass right up in your face as if to say, here I am and you best listen hehe.
You are a great connoisseur of music and love them with all your heart. have a nice day😍😍

All traced the full spectrum of the bass guitar.
Perfect Analysis!! I may be wrong, but I have always felt that this underrated bassist was inspired by Soul Music (James Jamerson..), rhythm'blues and, of course, Jazz Music. His playing is powerful, precise, very melodic, never invasive. I watch the band several times at the time (1976_1979 the famous "Live in Paris") and i must admit I was very jealous of his Music-Man Sabre(of course not here!!), witch is almost to find today...Greetings from a Fretless Bass player to his eminent colleague!! Take care of you, and thank's so much for Dougie!!
@@jntaca Knowing that Paul McCartney is always so underrated when compared to bassists in the years following him, I do give him great credit for many of the styles he developed in a brand new genre. However, his style doesn't stand the test of time that John Paul Jones' style does so I would merely switch their places in your order. Many times watching Jones do such intricate 3 piece bass fills I had to ask him (the tv or video) if he could at least make it look like its hard to do lol.
I think they started out as a jazz band , the 70 s pure magic !

I´m 52 now. Back in 1979 and just a 9 year old boy who, thanks to my brother (1963), discovered this fantastic band. The album "Paris", the very best of these guys. And this London concert.. epic!!!

My friends and I would sit outside the back door and listen to them rehearse in a studio in Burbank CA when we were teens.
I'm 53 and only really paid attention to Supertramp about 20 years ago. Crime of the Century remains my favourite album of theirs.
Heh. 54 for me, and my older brother got me hooked too. I saw Roger on his last tour through right before Covid, and if anything his voice is better now than it was then. And his band is truly amazing.

The most underrated drummer in R&R history - Bob Siebenberg. Never a mention on top drummer lists yet this guy was a master of the art! Very happy I saw them live on Hodgson's last tour with them.. Famous Last Words.

Agreed, he had (has?) a very clean style, his traditional grip was (is?) very good and he had (has?) a very deep groove pocket. I guess he wasn´t so charismatic as the rest of the band so he never got enough attention, but he was (is?) an amazing drummer.
Tremendous drummer, but I guess all of Supertramp are very much under the radar. Incidentally, did you know that Bob's brother in law is Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy?

No overdubs or post production? During the first song at 1:40 when the sax solo starts we clearly hear a keyboard part come in also and play throughout the rest of the song, yet there's no one playing either of the 2 onstage keyboards that I can see.

I saw Supertramp live twice. First in 1978 at Montreal's Jarry Park. That's when Crime of the Century was their huge hit. And then in 1983 in B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver for their 1983 Famous last words Tour. Their touring concert sound stage at that time was the best in the world.

As far as fabulous live music goes, I could live between 1965 and 1980 forever, 20 to 50 of greatest bands ever.
That was the golden age
Zeppelin was and still is my all time favorite. But i have a hard time listening or watching them live. Plant can never sing a song live that you can literally sing along with. Any group that changes up a song so much because they're live makes me frustrated. Im Sorry that you have to play the same songs so much that you're bored with it or getting lazy singing it so much that you want to sing it so differently than the original studio version. These guys singing live makes me happy to hear (even the sad songs) thx guys
Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Genesis, Eagles, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Bowie, Elton John, Roxy Music, ACDC, Deep Purple, Rush, Blondie, Talking Heads, Jacksons Bros, Wings, Frank Zappa, Bob Marley, Janis Joplin, Joe Jackson, Madness, The Clash, Japan, Kraftwerk.. What an amazing decade! The 80s were pretty good too, but never as experimental or fundamentally revolutionary.
The Who, Tradgically Hip, ELO, Moody Blues ,Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix,King Crimson, Santana, Gratful Dead, Gtand Funk Rairoad, Vanilla Fudge, Roxy Music, The Doobie Brothers, Sly & The Family Stone, James Broen Yes Allman Brothers Band, Dylan, Three Dog Night, Johnny Winter, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, America, Boz Skaggs just another sampling of some of the great music available in the Golden Age of Rock & Roll. Saw Pink Rloyd in Maple Leaf Gardens with 50’ of speakers in the 4 corners of the area a, They played the complete ‘ Dark Side of the Moon ‘ record. It was totally amazing - they said I had a great time!!
I will never forget The Logical Song all over the radio in the summer of '79 at age 7 when I became a permanent Supertramp fan and bought my first LP, Breakfast in America. Never a wrong note live, and beautifully unique song creations...my first favorite band ever!
Breakfast in America is such an iconic album.
Not to mention that the spring of 79 when I would ride the bus to and from school in 4th grade.

Hearing "Crime of the Century" for the first time, and on a quality stereo at my local music store ended with me buying my first Big Boy (expensive) stereo and becoming a life-long fan.

Saw them in Edinburgh in 1976, when I was 14 - changed my life, for the better. Nothings was ever quite the same again.
Wonderful to see this old footage. Such skill and musicianship.

Just because they weren't recorded and marketed in the West, doesn't mean there weren't legendary bands in other countries. Just because you're not aware of them doesn't mean they didn't exist.
Just as a small example, there is a huge treasure trove of African music that was recorded in the 70s, from psychedelic Rock to Rumba, mainly to do with the fact that there was a "golden age" shortly after many countries gained their independence from colonialism of such countries as the UK...
Have a look at labels Analog Africa, Soundway Records, or Lusafrica for a small sample of the vast richness of unique "modern" music that is barely known in the West that may make you question who is leaving who "in the dust" (not that music is a competitive exercise).

A masterpiece, from start to finish...
Saw Supertramp June 1977 at the Tower Theater in Philly - may have been the most talented group of musicians I've ever seen. Great show, great live performers!!
Steve, as a former DelCo resident I must correct you on one important thing. The Tower Theater is actually on 69th Street in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania, a Philadelphia suburb. It's just a few blocks from 69h Street Terminal, the end of the El (Market-Framkfort Subway-Elevated). I lived within easy walking distance of the Tower in my early 20s and saw many great shows there: Duran Duran, 10,000 Maniacs, Bryan Ferry, Squeeze (twice), Morrissey, and Toad the Wet Sprocket (among others). The acousitcs in that place are incredible. Last I heard the place was under renovation.
These songs bring me back to a beautiful time when we were so happy and had more freedom than today!! Simply the best!!❤❤
Timeless poprock, perfectly balanced and performed by great musicians, all with their signature sound and expression. They also found a great name. There isn't quite any other band like Supertramp.

Saw them at the Apollo in Glasgow October 1977 with Chris de Burgh opening. John Helliwell came on and played briefly with Chris. Wonderful! Supertramp were so tight, flawless.
Saw them on the same tour with Chris de Burgh at Demonfort Hall, Leicester. I remember they opened with the haunting sax solo to School, in pitch black. The most magical moment when the song takes off and the light show came on.

When I read the question and started thinking about it the only band that came to mind is a local band from San Diego who call themselves DARING GREATLY.(Look them up) but it's still not comparable

I saw Supertramp on 28th November 1975 at Cardiff Capitol, supported by the extremely talented Joan Armatrading… what a night; a brilliant band.

Saw same tour jn Bristol Colston Hall about that time. Supertramp were running nearly 2 hours late, when Joan came on she had to bear the brunt of the audience displeasure and had a very tough gig

My first rock concert - Supertramp performed Crime of The Century. It was in a grand movie theater from the golden age of cinema complete with orchestra pit appropriate for opera. The audience filled the venue. We were quiet and engaged during music, exploded with applause between songs. Wow. 1975 (I think). From then on I went to their concerts every time they came to town. Supertramp could settle into a groove so cohesive; it was amazing to be in front of them. It was impossible not to be drawn in and immersed into the music. Maybe the best band ever, in my opinion.

Saw them in early ‘80’s…. Great show and one of my all time favourite bands…. Back in the day when tickets were reasonable price and easy to get.
Early 1975 was their Crime of the Century tour: went there with my new girlfriend - still together 47 years later...

One of the 70s British invasion super groups that had a sound all their own that sold over 60 million albums. Pure musical genius and talent.

Dreamer is my all time favourite song and the only one to get me up and dancing back in the 70s. I really don’t think these wonderful group of musicians have ever been given enough credit for their wonderful music.
Supertramp is a one of a kind band; this music brings back memories of my teen years. I could listen to this guys for the rest of my life. Absolutely awesome.

Can't believe I just found this...so glad I did. Seen them on 5 consecutive tours. Supported Breakfast in America with in store play at the record store I worked. Their music has aged very well. ✌🕉🍏❤
Great band. Wore out my 8-track of Breakfast in America. Still have the vinyl. They belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

WOW! I was at this concert!! At the time I was 16, and my girlfriend worked for the BBC and got free tickets to concerts, and we were at this concert. Brings back such wonderful memories, great band, great concert, never realised at the time just how special Supertramp were, and how fortunate I was to see them at the height of their powers and success. Absolute joy.

An epic concert ! my favourite moment: From now on, 21:21, introducing the saxophone solo on the background piano, improvisation inspired by the repeating lyrics, and the crescendo coming from the adding instruments as of 22:24 is monumental: violoncelle starting, then the wrapping sound of the keyboard accompanied by Roger's voice. A piece of anthology !

Sorry to say i have never seen any incarnation of Supertramp or Roger solo. It is now top of my bucket list.
The first gig I ever went to was Supertramp at Guildford Civic Hall (UK) in 1974. The supporting acts were Gallagher & Lyle and a young Chris de Burgh. Supertramp had just brought out their Crime of the Century album. I thought they were very slick. Definitely worth seeing.
Dreamer still gives me shivers. Such an amazing track. One of my all time favorite bands.

I remember going into the city from the cottage in 1979 to see The Amityville Horror with the older kids. Posters of Supertramp were up all over town as they were playing later that summer. My older bro and I really loved the band and I recall thinking they were as big as the Beatles and would have given anything to go to that concert. Their music really brings me back. Tons of talent and a fabulous encapsulation of that era.
Funny you should mention the Beatles, I've always thought that Hodgson was the Lennon and Davies was the McCartney in the band.

Saw a similar set on June 24, 1977 at the Forum, Halifax, NS. I do recall "Crime of the Century" being played with a film version of that album cover projected towards the end of the show. This video is really only a tiny indication of a real live Supertramp performance with its loud, impeccable sound and carefully planned lighting.

I've attended a lot of concerts but that one was transcendent.

Supertramp was the band that got me into music! It was actually their album from this same year, Even in the Quitest Moments, that first struck a musical chord in me. Rick and Roger had such a unique vocal combo, you'd have to look far and wide to find anything like that elsewhere

These guys were sooooo good. They just got up there and play super top quality stuff without the need for a stage production and idiotic jumping around to make up for any lack of musicianship. I miss them.

Even the fans in attendance that night knew these guys were special. I got the Breakfast in America 8 track two years later and Brother Where You Bound Is still one of my favorites . What an amazing band for our lives
My fondest memory is an outdoor show they did on a warm summer night in Vancouver. They were touring for Breakfast in America so around 80 - 81. The stadium was situated so our mountains were in the distance behind the stage. The sun set as they played. It was such a beautiful setting for an excellent show,
Just remembering that day myself, there were several bands from afternoon to night. Believe they were evening, and Heart was also playing. Going to concerts was a major part of our entertainment along with buying albums. We experienced times that are not that long ago, yet have changed so much.The great part of it, we can still hear and see it and be transported to so many times. Who knew we would love it as much 40,50,60, years later, thanks to all the multi ways we can experience now. Especially those of us who kept their records and adult children love and recognize true talent. It was an AMAZING TIME UNBELIEVABLY FUN, but was safer, and everyone was there to let loose and get crazy, partying and hanging out, and music was crucial which united us and forever will.
