Great show! I love how your shirts are color coordinated! Here in South Carolina, we use "fall" and "autumn" but it is more fun in the south to say - It's fall, y'all!
And there’s the whole roman thing too, I have say absolutely love York we went up for the Christmas markets it was magical everywhere made me love Christmas again. Briony did a great job with the logo.
Canadian here, and I use both the terms fall and autumn. Thanks for the explanation of the words' origins. Never heard that before. Just back home after going to a fibre festival. Lots of alpaca farms here. Also touched some qivuit fibre which is amazingly soft. Is a wish list item as a skein of blended sock yarn will set you back $150 Canadian ( around 100 British pounds).
I absolutely love the etymology/word history lesson! Interestingly, where I live (in Indiana, U.S.), autumn is used AT LEAST as often as fall. To a small degree, it might depend on the person with whom you're speaking and what their background is. :) One possible difference between here and England that I wonder about is the adjective usage of this. I think in the U.S. one is just as likely to hear the season itself called by either name, but when hearing folks talk about seasonal weather/decor/food/etc... more likely to see fall used. The season is called autumn, but its weather is "fall weather" and not autumnal weather. Lol Love watching you two! ❤️
Love your Detroit Lions jersey Kay 😊 (I'm in Michigan) This colorway is so beautiful, thank you as always. And, your message this morning at the loss of the Queen was so poignant 💗
Oh you gorgeous folk, you are Spring Chickens when it comes to body deterioration. I'll hit 80 soon and believe me I've discovered creaky parts I didn't know I had LOL. Kay, thank you for the tip on how to knit an icord on a blanket as you go. Dan, your Hadrian Cowl looks superb. Great program as always. I've been binge watching from episode 1. Thank you for each and every episode. Judy, Nelson Bay, Australia.
Thanks for always making me smile and giggle!! I am new to knitting and just recently finished my first pair of socks and I loved the entire process. It was like magic seeing them come together. I love this new sock pattern and can't wait to try it! R. I. P. Queen Elizabeth. God Save the King
Hi :). Im in Wisconsin and i use about 50/50 fall autumn. I was raised on the west coast so never thought much about having two words for it. I moved to Wisconsin and was standing in my new yard in October and y time of the year!thousands of leaves were falling at one time. You wore the leaves and could hear them. I assumed that was what fall meant. :) Love the colors, !
Kay, your yarn dying tutorials are like watching an artist at work. So much fun! Both of you knit such beautiful color work. I’m primarily a crocheter, but your knitting inspires me to knit more…and maybe try some color work knitting. Thank you for your fun videos!
Oh my that yarn is so gorgeous. And strangely enough yellow I probably my least favourite colour and yet that one makes my heart sing. Sometimes when the sun sets over the sea you see a flash of gold and it's beautiful 😍. There are some places to go where you may go once but would never need to go again. Whereas some I could go to infinite number of times. Not going to list them but most of them North of the Watford Gap 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I know I now live on the outskirts of London, but I am still a Northern lass at heart. But I do love London's museums and wonderful concert halls. So I suppose it's swings and roundabouts. Love to all Lynne ❤️ 🤗
When we went to Wakefield the market was ok and there was a Greg’s on nearly every corner we went round lol. People we met were friendly though. But I love the area around the sculpture park
Thank you for another lovely episode! Kay, I like your new sock design. Dan, your sweater is looking really fine. Kay, the yarns that you dyed are gorgeous❤️
As usual, camera work just fabulous and so professional! Loved all the knitting...Dan’s sweater and hat, Kays’s socks and blanket. Kay, the detail in My Favorite Colorways was so much appreciated! Even a few giggles throw in! Thank you!
Love Kay's new Lions gear. We do love our Lions in Michigan and always have high hopes with each new season. No shorties after shower cracked me up! Thank you so much for your extra regarding the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Such a remarkable life lived with grace and dignity. RIP 💜🕊
You’ll be pleased to know Susan that Kay and I decided this off season to look at all the teams and pick ‘our’ favourite. The lions are that team! Dan Campbell represents all we love about American Football and we will both be supporting them this season ❤️
@@BakeryBears that warms my heart ❤ I also love Dan Campbell (I might just be old enough to remember him as a Lion player 😁). My fellow UM alumni Aiden Hutchinson was drafted #2 overall and I am looking for great things from him this rookie sesson. Go Lions!
I just love what big nerds (never ending radical dudes) you guys are. I always learn so much and I especially appreciate the facts about fall and autumn. If there’s ever a trivia question about it- I’ll win!
Hi Kay and Dan, I am so sorry for y'all with the passing of the Queen. On the seasons, I was taught that God in the Bible gave 2 seasons, Summer and Winter and man added in the terms Autumn and Spring! As always I so enjoy your channel! Diane in SC, USA
Another wonderful podcast! Love the colorway and I can’t wait to try dyeing it myself. I’m watching as I’m waiting for the Lions season opener to began-💕your shirt Kay!
Thank you for this latests podcast episode. I look forward to each and every one. Hope you're hanging in there! Sending best wishes and lots of love, Juliane.
No shorties after shower made me giggle :D Love this episode so so much, beautiful patterns, amazing editing and camerawork, and of course the entertaining chats
We used to say St. Michael was the patient Saint of underwear😇Lol. I found myself shouting at the screen at you when you say Currawong a native black coloured bird here in Australia. Accents are interesting 👍🏻
As with most Latinate words in English, autumn most likely came into the language through the French 'automne'. The impact of French on the English language following the Norman conquest was far greater than that of Latin during the Roman occupation.
Hi Angelica, thanks so much for your message. The roots of the English word autumn are a little muddy, some believe it came directly from the Latin word autumnus, others believe it came through the french word automne which also comes from the Latin autumnus. Either way the root word was indeed the Latin autumnus. Best wishes, Dan
Nearly all the shops in Rotherham as shut down..and it changed a lot kay Jones. And Sheffield town centre as changed a lot aswell.. please can you tell me what make of knitting yarn you like best. I do like King Cole yarn because it soft. I do like chello twist yarn soft cotton..love to you both

The dyed wool Kay is absolutely beautiful.
I live in Southeast USA and we pretty much use Fall and Autumn interchangeably. I think Fall is more informal perhaps but I couldn’t say for sure

From Australia : currawong , start like your saying curry ( minus y) and add awong to the end
Love your podcast. I was wanting to see what Hadrians cowl look like I search on Ravelry but it’s not there. Is it something Dan is creating? Love the colors!
I designed it for Dan so it’s not a pattern available to buy I’m afraid 💓
I love the Rumple socks, where can I find the pattern?
I explained in the show that I’ll be releasing the pattern later in the year, thank you for your interest ! 💖
How can we buy you knitting yarn kay Jones. Lovely lady x
Sadly you can’t buy the Colourways we create, that’s why we’re showing you how to make them 👍🏻
could a wrist tickler be knit up in your new spiral slip stitch sock pattern.
As long as you checked your gauge, I don’t see why not ! ❤
