  • Definitley something to add to your haunt for guest to interact with while waiting in line or just coming to the house to trick or treat. The phantom puppet can be scaled down to a smaller size or made really huge if you want. I went for regular adult human sized but with fairly long poles so I could get it to fly much higher.
Here are some useful links for building this. You can get a lot of things at your local craft store, party store, and hardware store as well.

Haha for real. That’s how I feel with SO many props I see.

Nice design. If matte black spray paint on the control rods still gives off too much glare (especially if there's a lot of atmospheric lighting around you) sleeves made out of black velvet and slipped over the PVC will help. Also: hitting the dangling ends of the shroud with matte black spray paint and gradating up to the white shroud will cause the lower ends to "fade" into the darkness giving it less of a defined lower edge.

Dry cleaner bags might give a nice layer of translucence if you intermix it with the cheese cloth. It will also add a subtle rustle to your ghost which people will not be able to immediatly associate with anything tangible.

Thanks! I have a bunch more videos I need to finish up. I’d love to contribute to the haunt community however I can. Some original ideas some just my take on things that have been around for years and little tips and tricks that have worked for me.

Those would be cool modifications. Styling the phantom a bit more. I’ve thought about trying to get it to glow in black light a bit more too. So far it’s been a crowd pleaser… expect for maybe smaller kids who are more terrified of it and then it’s usually the parents that love to see the kids run haha.

LOVE this!! Thank you for sharing it!!
If you need padding for neck strap, you could get one of those seat belt covers that velcro around the seat belt so it isn't cutting into your neck while you are driving.

What lengths are the PVC for the arms control sticks? I notice there is significant flex in in the pipe.

I think the total length of the arms is about 6ft including the forearm section. I'm using a lighter weight PVC rather than the thick stuff so it's not as heavy to fly around, but you're right it does tend to bend/flex. I actually prefer the flex because it makes the movement more smooth and gives it a bit more of a bouncy floating effect vs completely rigid control sticks.

Made this with fake pumpkins carved into jack-o’-lantern as heads (trying to cartoonify it to make it more young kid friendly,) and my 11 year old nephew liked it so much I made him his own. We are going to tweak it for use this year (reposition the jack o lantern head more at an angle and use some hot glue to secure the head but leave it easy to deconstruct at the end of the season.)

I love how this moves! I made four Dementors that fly around elevated by long pvc tubes attached to fence stakes. I could take one using your puppet system and leave the group scaring the Trick-or-treaters!
    Well done sir!

That would be awesome! I’ve chased a few kids around with mine and it’s a great time!

How long is the center rod?

    • @heyjustj
      @heyjustj 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

I don’t know the EXACT measurements, but it was about 6ft or so. I recommend starting longer and if it’s hard to control then you can easily shorten it. More difficult to make it longer. Ultimately the length depends on your preferences with how far away from your body you want the puppet to be and how high you want to be able to go in the air. The longer it is the more “bouncy/floaty” it gets and also more torque it puts on your body to swing it around so it can be less comfortable. Shorter you can get much quicker precise movements and can be more comfortable. Long answer but hopefully that helps give a bit more guidance than just 65 inches.

Dude, this is way freakin cool. WAY! Nicely done! Like shannondh83 said, "I did not know I needed a ghost puppet, but now I do."

Haha I totally relate. That’s how I felt when I saw the one that inspired this build. It’s also surprisingly simple to build but has such a great effect.
