I believe his reference to the ark as a "Lucky charm" is in regards to the Isrealites being naive and their lack of reverence for the LORD for taking the Ark into the battle without first consulting the LORD. The isrealites lose the battle and, as a result of their behavior, lose the Ark. So Pastor isn't referring to the Ark as a "lucky charm" just trying to show the arrogance of the Isrealites. I must say, I'm disappointed when you referred to the Ark of the covenant. As "a good luck charm" when the Israelites went into battle.
