    Hello. Use regular tape to save the leaf. I’ve done it several times, including tears in leaves. For the tears I place the tape on the back of the leaf, some you can’t even teal it’s torn/ripped. Good luck!

      It really works, I’ve done it too. I used it on a cracked leaf and it straightened up the leaf. After 6 months I could take it off. Leaf repaired!!

    Can't wait to see more updates 🥰
    I had my thai constellation on a moss pole for the past year, and a couple weeks ago I chopped it but left it on the pole, and all of the cuttings have their second leaves opening!!
    Just waiting until the new leaves harden before removing them from the pole and potting separately (without poles) 😅
    You've been such a moss pole inspo, I always love seeing yours! 🥰🥰

    To deal with ants and other potential crawling bugs: I use Diatomaceous Earth around the perimeter and window sills of my plant room. This stuff is great and it’s natural and will not harm the pets. It’s also available at Lowe’s.

    An your tps is best to use directly on the roots. I also used that but have found tarantula is a lot better and I also use it with piranha. For some reason I cannot think of the name who makes it at the moment but it's for hydroponics but you can also use it in soil. I got mine from go grow Michigan and they right now are having a huge sale so that's where I got mine and it is making a dramatic difference right away. My Thai constellation had root rot and I used a little bit of that piranha in there which goes in and eats up any of the dead roots and turns it into stuff that your plants can use and within I'd say two uses the root rot's gone. I love it, can't say enough good things about it

    Hey Melissa, nice Melano! Yeah I always rinse my pon before potting up but it still develops residue no matter how mauch you rinse it. I guess over time it builds up but at least it's not harmful to the plants. Your projects in this vid are the same as mine atm....moss pole extensions, re-doing older moss poles that aren't practical anymore for me as well as reconfiguring my room to maximize light to plants ratio 😆 I've even bought new low lying benches to re-position all my poles/plants along one wall like you have so that it's easier for watering and monitoring growth. I have half the space you have so plant realty is at an all time premium🙄 And I'm always amazed at your patience with Chai and Luna when they're in your way of filming...they're cute but I don't think I'd be so patient 🫣 My daughter on the other hand is like you...don't disturb the babies! 😅😂 Looking forward to the next one 👌🏼🥰

    I’ve thought of pre-rinsing the PON. With the type that is without fertilizer included I don’t see a problem. I have what comes with the pots, and I believe it does contain the 6 month worth of fertilizer. I worry rinsing would dilute that. And I wouldn’t be able to gage how much was rinsed away.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just rinsed a big batch of it yesterday - I broke out my meter as well and tested my water and learned a lot. I am going to start fertilizing pon now regardless of how much slow release is in there. I may just dilute at half strength for a month. I'm having some nutrient deficiencies which I believe is from not fertilizing sooner in pon.

  • @PearlyThePug
    @PearlyThePug 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My melano is growing in pon, on a moss pole, and in the cabinet like yours. I took it out and tried to grow it outside the cabinet for one month, and the leaves grew smaller. So I put it back into the cabinet and it started sizing up again. Now the pole is the exact height of the cabinet, and it’ll probably live in there forever 😬.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't blame you! I really hope mine doesn't throw a fit - my cabinet conditions aren't too different than my room environment which is great but there's more light in there and overall it's more stable.

  • @beakylovesalice965
    @beakylovesalice965 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Im just now getting my polls to size up. I tried making my own with a stick an wraping the moss around , then i tried chicken wire , then i finally bought plastic ones , now im back to making them but with acetate plastic and plastic chicken wire for the front so it's kind of like a grow vertical pole but it's working because I just can't afford to purchase them. I live on SSI and trying to keep up in this hobby is kind of hard. But my problem truly is. I am a nerd about soil and I have over 300 plants. I've been thinking about selling some and got the inspiration to try from you, although I'm going to be going to the flea markets here in Bryson City, North Carolina. But I always enjoy watching you and love the cats. I only have one and his name is Lil Homie

    I lived in VA Beach most of my life, with many military bases. There was a naval air station nearby, and I know exactly what you mean. It is LOUD. It's funny how we all got used to it. You cannot even hear the person next to you when they are overhead. I think it is breaking the sound barrier or something. I forget too. They cannot do it over land, but they can do it over the ocean, I think. Because it is THAT loud, and we can still hear it.

      It's not my favorite - I need to do a better job at keeping a pole moist for it. I've restarted it once already on a pole. They throw out runners often so I end up chopping them off and then new growth takes awhile to start again so overall just kinda annoying for me to grow one climbing.

    I love your Meleno!!!! I have one too growing on a moss pole and its doing well too but it’s only one vine and I’m trying to figure out how to get more vines. Do you like the moss you get from Lowe’s for your poles? I am torn because I only really love new zealand 🤔 and I have to order off amazon. Any suggestions? I also have SO much algae too and I also HATE it 😮

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Besgrow New Zealand is some great quality moss - def recommend it but I don't use it for my poles because of the price. I feel like I chop mine too quickly so I'd rather use the better gro brand. Once your one vine is rooted well into the pole you can make an incision lower on the vine to activate bottom nodes to grow. You'll have to be good about keeping the pole moist after though to supply the top half with water until more roots grow down to the pot. You'll end up with more vines growing on the pole in some time. The other issue with that is the top growth will most likely use up more of the nutrients/water and will grow ahead so it might not be worth it if you're looking to chop it when it reaches the top of the pole/extension. Even when I start multiple vines on a pole - one vine tends to outpace the rest.

    I wonder if your algae problem is actually cyanobacteria and may be treated with an aquarium product that is plant safe and treats blue green slime. Amazon has two products, chemiclean and Ultralife and is super inexpensive to treat a large volume of water.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hmm never heard of that. It just started appearing with use of a liquid fertilizer (past 4 months) so I'm assuming all the extra nutrients + light is causing the algae growth. I'll look it up, thanks for your comment! 🙏

      @CindyH907 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If Diatomaceous Earth is available to you that will work. I always put it in bags of like orchid bark and things I buy. It does need to be dry to work. Just mix it in. Of course it will take a few weeks to completely break the life cycle.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Another commenter suggested DE - I don't really use it but I personally would just toss it. I know it's wasting product but larvae can hatch out in some time once you go to use it and water your plant which starts an annoying lifecycle to try and battle. I imagine what you're seeing is adult fungus gnats. If it's thrips then def get rid of it.
