You never disappoint a great reaction as always. I've owned this song since Thin Lizzy recorded it in 1973 & this is the first time I've heard all the words properly!
They are so very talented. A rare group where the listener can understand every word of the song. It is especially amazing that Geoff can HUM distinct notes - easier to sing a note but to hum it clearly is amazing Great reaction
What a nice treatment of an old Irish song (nearly 400 yrs old). My great-uncle (Irishman) sang this when I was about 10. I thought he sang it to me, but I think he sang it to my dad (also half-Irish) who was in control of the bar in the house. Whiskey in the Jar!
It just dawned on me what I was missing from the lyrics - the line about not being able to shoot the water and the missing rapier after "shot him with barrels".
I first heard this song from Thin Lizzy back in the 70's then discovered that it's a traditional Irish number, written I believe in the 16 or 1700's. Thin Lizzy seemed to rejig the lyrics from the traditional ones - I've always assumed it was to make it fit into the usual 3 minute (approx) length of singles back then. Metallica and VoicePlay have used those lyrics but Colm McGuinness has a version where he sings the original lyrics - well worth a listen.
Maybe because they're preparing for a show later this month, but this feels like something they can perform live, unlike many of their more recent songs that rely on post-production, vocal doubling, or morning voice subs. Don't get me wrong, Geoff's B0's send me to hell and raise me back up to heaven in 0.2 seconds, but he admits that's a rare thing that may take 60 tries. It's not something he could do at a concert. This felt like something that COULD be done live, just glorious harmonies and Omar sitting there like an angel masquerading as a choir boy.
Awesome reaction, Dave!! I very much enjoyed your commentary. This song is a real ear worm. A lot of people aren't liking it but it's one that can take some time for it to hit. When it does, though, wow. I love it now. ❤
Dave, Dave, Dave.....You have re-confirmed for me that Geoff="Stank Face"......Who else besides VoicePlay could turn a song about Lust, Love Robbery and Murder, and Prison..sound SO GOOD!?..>^^
Great reaction, Dave. Thanks for doing this one. I think it beats the rendition I heard a number of years ago by The Irish Rovers (60 years old this year!). I know the VP members enjoyed producing it, too.
Great reaction!! My first hearing of this song was Darby O'Gill with the traditional rendition and it is soo good! I had to go look and Metallica's version made this old gal cringe! (and I am an AC/DC fan!) Check out Darby for traditional - BUT I am amazed AND IN LOVE with VP doing this!!

Yep, you are right. I have heard the song in several versions, but this was the first one where I understood more than parts of the lyrics.
The amount of detail and musical insight you put into your reactions is what keep me coming back every single reaction.

Thank you Dave! ❤❤❤
This is incredible. I swear, Geoff can make a phone book sound evil. The harmonies are out of this world.
This one got your dimples out in force. Love VoicePlay and your reactions.
I know the song from way back, from The Dubliners, and Thin Lizzy. This is certainly different. :)
We like silly! Thank you for a really fun reaction!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I needed more ears to listen to this song. So many lovely things going on. I just love this lineup
I love your reactions. They’re so genuine and delightful. Always make me smile. Always brightens my day. Thank you.

6:18 - 6:29 MASTER CLASS reaction comment. GOAT of reactions ladies and gentlemen. WHAT IT DO DAVE ❤

Colm's version is the way it should be sung. It's not a pop song!

Love both Voiceplay's and Celtic Thunders versions
Loved the reaction! I didn't know this song before VoicePlay graced us with it. I am such a fan now. Love it!
Great reaction, as always, Dave! I love the story-telling folk songs, and definitely love Voiceplay's version!
I think my favorite part of the reaction had to be when you stopped to open a bill after Omar had his big moment! 😂😂😂 Awesome reaction as usual! ❤❤❤
I just love your face. It makes me happy. ❤

It’s awesome your reaction has the same amount of likes as the official video
I've only ever heard the Thin Lizzy Version, but love this cover 😊
Have a great weekend!

What it do homie
Great cover. It's still Thin Lizzie for me for this one.

Nice reaction, as always. VoicePlays harmonies currently are so superb that by and large I am running out of adjectives to describe them. 😅
