I remember this discovery from Life magazine. Truely amazing, 3800 feet deep. 1.5 miles deep. A very high tech recovery operation. The pressure at that depth is impossible for humans. A very nice discovery indeed! Thanks for sharing this amazing work.

If anyone knows, why are there so many “recent” comments on this older video? I came here a very strange way. Not following the YT’s mysterious algorithms. (Like I normally don’t) But it almost seems like algorithms are taking people here, as in recently taking them here. I found it a little strange.

I have just finished reading a book titled "Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea" by Gary Kinder, which is about the SS Central America discovery. It's a very detailed book starting from the night the ship sank through the recovery of the gold. It certainly educates the reader on how monumental the task of deep sea exploration was back in the 1980s. It also gives a lot of insight to Tommy Thompson's genius.

Just saw some of the old footage on a rerun of a 1991 episode of the Tonight show. Johnny had one of the expedition leaders on the show and he brought some of the gold with him. I wonder if they've gotten most or all of it by now. I doubt it would be possible to get it all up.

Is there another video without this piss poor "music". Irritating beyond belief. Big, BIG Thumbs Down on this pile of crap.
Could do without that f--king "music". Why is it that all these documentary and movie makers fell inclined to inflict this NOISE on people. Can't watch a movie today without subtitles. Damned "music' blasting throughout whole movie, drowning out what is already the lousy dialogue from actors with no speaking skills.
Why is it I never need subtitles for movies made in the 40's and 50's? Because they had more class.
