Age definitely plays a huge role of course and Muay Thai rules would’ve changed the situation by a lot . I’d say one of the few Europeans that can match the Thai beasts is Jon Haggerty

Maybe he's too used to making his opponents getting offbalanced by that powershot. You can really see how the years take their toll on Buakaw's speed and strength. Stoyan took round 2 no contest but I would say Buakaw took round 3 (although it was close). I always forget how good of a boxer he is and he put pressure on Stoyan and landed enough power shots to rock him. Buakaw still proves to be one of the greatest tacticians in combat sports - it honestly took me completely by surprise when he started rolling after throwing that left kick. Who knows what round 4 would have looked like. Still, a well-deserved win for Stoyan, he showed he had the tech, power and brains to win the tournament. You guys ought to be proud - Bulgaria has its legend!

Wouldn't really call it lucky - more an tactical exploit that took Buakaw by surprise and rocked him enough that Stoyan could push his attacks. A good display of fight IQ and tech from Stoyan. Buakaw won round 3 imo, superior boxing and more ring control, showing that he's still good enough to adapt to any opponent. But the years man, they get to us all.

in this weight class the age is an advantage to some extend (if both never stopped progressing and training it's even more impressive a 30yo can catch up to 12 years more experience muscle and bone)
Buakaw is truly amazing but my goodness his defense was terrible.... never seen his defense that horrible, but they changed so many rules bc of him true legend Buakaw
the knockdown in round two plus the dropped point in round three caused him to lose. But Buakaw landed more significant shots than the other guy. Definitely controlled the ring better. Showed better fight IQ. Definitely showed he was the better fighter. However, he did show a little overconfidence

Buakaw is relaying too much in head movement, and letting the hands at the height of boxing guard (more relaxed). I don't remember him fighting with this kind of guard at his prime in k1.
That's because he's been training for Pacquiao before it was cancelled. So he's been training with boxing coaches and he's picked up a boxing move or two.
