Columbus Division of Fire 102nd Recruit Commencement Ceremony

On January 29, 2016, forty-one recruits crossed the threshold of the Maurice Gates Memorial Gymnasium,, to officially become City of Columbus firefighters.
For 31 weeks the recruits learned the science of fire, the strategy of teamwork and the importance of public service.
“The training academy is a grueling process,” said Captain James Sancin. “This year we introduced new materials that demanded a higher level of reading and a greater understanding of course materials.”
The goal is to produce a more knowledgeable, better prepared, firefighter ready for service.
Currently, there are 1,532 firefighters working for the residents of Columbus.
